A Fond Farewell to Carolyn
Carolyn Peabody retired from the position of Administrative Assistant at the Rowley Council on Aging in
December. Carolyn had been at the Council for 10+
years and was the friendly voice you heard when calling the council.
The photo above captures Rev “Bob” Hagopian and
Carolyn sharing a moment during her retirement
brunch held at the Council.
Her cheerful face and warm greeting will be
missed at the council by all. We wish Carolyn
happiness and health in her retirement years!

ROWLEY READS 2014
The Rowley Public Library is encouraging everyone in our
Community to come together and read “The Orchard,” by
the late Ipswich resident Adele Crockett Robertson. It is a
memoir of the year she spent running her family’s apple orchard on Argilla Road during the Great Depression. The library will be hosting book discussions later this spring, as well
as other events and programs on the many themes of the book,
including agriculture, beekeeping , jazz and local history. Copies are available at the library and at the Council, or can be reserved by visiting Rowley.mvlc.org. This program is supported
with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and
Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts
Board of Library Commissioners. Call 978-948-2850
or visit www.rowleylibrary.org for more information.
A big “Thank-You” to one and all who made our Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays such a
special time for Rowley seniors.
Special thanks To Spud’s, who provided Thanksgiving meals to Rowley homebound seniors and
thanks to those who gave up holiday time to deliver those meals.
We are grateful to all the folks who helped with the Christmas Dinner on Christmas day by cooking, donating food, serving, or delivering. You all came together to provide a wonderful meal for
Rowley seniors. A special “Thank-You” to the entire Picanso family including grandchildren,
who took time during their busy Christmas to deliver meals and flowers all over Rowley.
Thank-you to Bill Freitag and family, of Country Gardens, for the generous donation of flowers
which accompanied each meal delivered. They brought such joy!
It is said that there is more joy in giving than in receiving, and for those who gave , be it time,
effort, cooking, serving, or delivering, I’m sure your holidays were just a bit brighter and joyful,
thanks to your big heart! Thank you all for a holiday well done!!

Residential Energy Credits
You might have made or paid for certain energy- efficient improvements to your main home in 2013. If so, you might be able to claim a
credit for the expenses.
You can only claim residential energy credits for your home in the United States.
If these improvements are for your main home, they count toward the credits:
 Insulation
 Exterior windows or doors
 Qualified roofing
 Natural gas, propane, or oil furnace or hot water boiler
 Advanced main air circulating fan used in a natural gas, propane or oil furnace
 Heat pump, central air conditioner, or water heater
 Fuel cell property
A lifetime credit limit of $500 for most of these items applies. The $500. limit doesn’t apply
to fuel cell property.
These improvements qualify for the credit whether or not the home is your main home:

Solar water heater or solar electric property

Small wind-energy property

Geothermal heat-pump property
These improvements never qualify for the energy credits:

Subsidized energy financing—Any amounts paid by subsidized energy financing
(including financing provided by federal, state, or local programs)

Costs allocable to a swimming pool, hot tub, or any other energy-storage medium
with a function other than storage

Costs for the installation of property that doesn’t meet the efficiency requirements,
performance, or quality standards set out in the IRS instructions for form 5695.
