The search for the new “Gingerbread Princess” reaches its apex.
Sparkling lights, twinkling stars, Christmas carols, the tempting aromas
of mulled wine and gingerbread and children’s eyes all aglow. Dresden
Striezelmarkt has been bringing such exquisite sights and sounds to
our city for 582 years, making it Germany’s oldest Christmas market.
A seasonal oasis in which to stroll, snack and shop: Erzgebirge wooden
art, Lusatian indigo prints, Moravian stars. And all naturally topped off
with a slice of original Dresden Stollen cake enjoyed under the lights of
the towering Erzgebirge tiered wooden pyramid.

Children can bake tasty biscuits in the baker’s shop. There is a puppet
theatre, the Elves’ Cinema, a gingerbread house, children’s carousel and
miniature railway.

at the 582nd Dresden Striezelmarkt
The Striezeltaler tokens are back again this year.
For 10 euros you get 11 tokens worth 1 euro – in other words, we give
you one token for free. They can be redeemed at all the stalls on Dresden
Striezelmarkt. The Striezeltaler are a limited edition and can be bought
only at Dresden Information.

After being paraded through the historical Altstadt, a giant Stollen is cut
up by the “Baker to the Royal Court” and the Dresden Stollen Girl using
a specially made Stollen knife weighing 12 kg and measuring 1.6 metres
in length. The pieces are then sold.

Like a giant string of lights, the Christmas Mile winds along Prager
Strasse from the main rail station to Old Market Square, then on to
Neumarkt square up to the Frauenkirche. From there, it crosses over the
Elbe to the Hauptstrasse Christmas Market and the Baroque quarter of
Neustadt decked out in all its Advent magnificence.
