2016 BUDGET
2016-2017 Budget
Voting for an increase in funding for the 2016-2017 Suffern
Free Library budget will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016
from 10am-9pm. The proposition would increase the
amount to be raised by taxes by .73% or $21,493. The total
budget will increase by 1.92% or $59,929 primarily due to
scheduled and other anticipated increases in maintenance to
the building and grounds, and the rising costs for medical
and liability insurance. In addition, the Board increased the
reserve for capital improvements by $100,000 as it monitors
the possible replacement of the library’s aging HVAC
equipment. The increase in the budget will be offset by using
$130,658 of undesignated net asset reserves.
The Library’s operating income is also supplemented with
funds raised by our book sale volunteers. Through their hard
work and dedication they earned $25,633 in 2015, which was
partly used to support our children’s Summer Reading
Program and to purchase materials and services. Additional
sources of income include grants, as well as gifts.

Cent’Anni: The Sinatra Legend at 100
Tuesday, March 22nd at 1:30PM
Join author Richard Muti, as he presents his latest book,
Cent'Anni: The Sinatra Legend at 100. As a boy, Frank Sinatra
most likely rode the wooden Cyclone roller coaster at Palisades
Amusement Park in Fort Lee and Cliffside Park—his mother was a
political force in Hoboken and got him and his friends free passes.
The ride started off with a slow climb to the heights, followed by
a deep plunge and then a series of ups and downs, jerks and
twists—some that riders could anticipate, others that they couldn't—until finally rolling out to a full stop. The Cyclone would be a
wonderful metaphor for the life and career of Frank Sinatra.
Author Richard Muti is a former career prosecutor, trained in uncovering
evidence, analyzing it, making reasonable and logical judgments from it,
and then laying it all out in a compelling narrative for juries. He does the
same for readers in this, his sixth book.
