Welcome
Welcome to another year of Girl Scouts! Our goal is to provide girls with opportunities for fun and friendship while
fostering the development of leadership skills and self-esteem. As you go through this year's offerings, we hope that
you are as intrigued as we are by the great new programs coming up, and that girls experience the fun and friendship of
Girl Scouts while growing in self-confidence.
As you look through this guide, you will see a focus on STEM. In the Girl Scout Research Institute study Generation
STEM: What Girls Say about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, we learned that a high percentage of girls
interested in STEM fields like to solve problems (85%), build things and put things together (67%), do hands-on science
projects (83%), and ask questions about how things work and find ways to answer these questions (80%).
Through innovative programming and strong community partners, we encourage girls to ask questions about the world,
experiment, and problem solve. This hands-on aspect of exploration and discovery can be found in many of our
programs, including #MediaGirls, Duluth Dash, and Girls Night Out in Hibbing –and many more!
Teen Leadership Opportunities
A number of our programs have adult or teen Event Volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are needed to be event
presenters or assistant, assist with set up/take down, welcome participants at registration, and more (roles differ
depending on event). Consider attending an event for free – and sharing your interests and enthusiasm to make our
programs an even better experience for girls. Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors who take a significant role in the
eventearn credit toward upcoming programs and trips. Girls may apply their time to the Senior or Ambassador
Service to Girl Scouting Bar. Lots of reasons to get involved – and make a difference in the life of a girl.

Events Pathway
Lakes and Pines’ Events
An overnight, a day in the woods, a chance to discover parts of yourself you never knew  as one Girl Scout put it, our
events create opportunities you may not have had otherwise. When we connect with our world we can take action on
our new interests and even make the world a better place.
Through Lakes and Pines’ events, teens and adults can participate or volunteer, and teens can even earn credit toward
upcoming trips and events. If you are attending with a group, adults need to attend with the girls to provide safetyratios; if you are attending by yourself, we have you covered for chaperones. For more information on all the Program
Registration Guidelines, check out page 24.
