About Armalite:

60 YEARS OF ARMALITE
Work on the AR-1 “Parasniper” rifle begins, breaking new ground
by using a foam-filled fiberglass stock and an anodized aluminum
barrel with a thin steel liner. In 1954, ArmaLite was established
as a Division of Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation. The
AR-1 was one of the first rifles produced at ArmaLite’s location in
Hollywood, California, and paved the way to the development of

the AR-10. All rifles were designated AR, short
for ArmaLite

Soon thereafter, ArmaLite submitted the AR-5, .22 Hornet Survival
Rifle to the U.S. Air Force as a replacement for their then-standard
survival rifle. The AR-5 was adopted and designated the MA-1
Survival Rifle.

Under the guidance of former Marine and former Army Ordinance technician, Eugene Stoner,
the AR-10 became the main focus of attention. Army officials asked ArmaLite to develop a
smaller version of the AR-10 in 1956 as a potential replacement for the M1 Garand. The ensuing
rifle was called the AR-15 and was produced with aircraft-grade aluminum receivers, weighing less
than seven pounds. In 1959, the AR-10 was licensed to the Dutch Arsenal, Artillerie Inrichtingen,
for sale on the international market and then to Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company,
along with the AR-15. Shortly thereafter, ArmaLite began development of a new rifle, the AR-18.
Development of the AR-16 (which was later dropped due to the Army’s adoption of the M-14) and
AR-17 12-gauge shotgun begins. The AR-7 Explorer becomes the first commercial rifle produced
by ArmaLite. It is the civilian version of the Air Force-adopted AR-5 Survival Rifle.

continued from this time
on as ArmaLite, Inc., with
substantially the same
nucleus of key personnel.

In 1983, ArmaLite, Inc. was sold to Elisco Tool
Manufacturing Company, of the Philippines. Inventory,
tooling, and machinery were dispatched from the
U.S. plant to the Philippines. The transition failed
due to unforeseen political events in the Philippines.
The political and economic links of the government
were dramatically shifted, and Elisco was unable to
carry out the AR-18 production. The U.S. arm of the
operation was closed in 1987. Independent of ArmaLite,
Karl Lewis and Jim Glazier formed a company named
Eagle Arms in Coal Valley, Illinois, in 1986. Eagle Arms
initially marketed M-16 and AR-15 type rifle parts.
The early Stoner patents had expired, and Eagle
was able to build both parts and complete rifles.
In 1989, Eagle commenced production of complete
rifles, with LMT serving as the major supplier.
The M-15 is introduced as direct competition with Colt’s trademarked AR-15. Mark
Westrom purchases ArmaLite from Eagle Arms where he continued to produce
the Eagle Arms EA-15 rifle. Product focus turned toward high-grade target rifles.
Shortly thereafter, a design for a .308-caliber AR-10 type rifle was initiated and
designated the M-10. Westrom purchased all rights to the ArmaLite trademark
in 1995, and production of ArmaLite rifles resumed in Illinois. The planned M-10
rifle series was designated the AR-10B series and was developed using unusual
reliance on computer design and simulation. ArmaLite drastically expands the
AR-10 line with new rifles and carbines, including the AR-10 SuperSASS™,
which features an adjustable gas system to accommodate suppressed and
unsuppressed fire.

Production of the AR-18 started at
the Howa Machinery Company of
Nagoya, Japan (1967). For Japanese
political reasons the Howa rifles
were allowed to be sold only to
non-combatant nations, and even
then, only to non-Asian nations.
During the Vietnam War, the AR-18
could not be exported to the United
States. In mid-1968, ArmaLite set up
pilot production in its Costa Mesa
plant for AR-18s and AR-180s. The
Japanese government subsequently
eased restrictions and allowed the
commercial semi-automatic AR-180
to be exported to the U.S. By the
late 1970s, U.S. production halted.
The AR-20 was introduced and was the initial designation of
ArmaLite’s .50-caliber rifle. The designation was later changed
to the AR-50 to emphasize the caliber of the firearm. This
period also brought the introduction of a few devices to help
test and train the Mk 19: the AR-22–a Blank Firing Device for
the Mk 19 Mod 4 40mm Grenade Machine and the AR-23–a
Sub-Caliber Training Device for the Mk 19 Mod 4 Grenade
machine gun. The AR-30 was also introduced during this time
and is based on an aluminum stock that merges a machine rest
with a rifle stock for stunning stability. This design is immune
to changes in temperature or humidity.

ArmaLite introduces the AR-180B made of a high-strength polymer, and features
the trigger group and magazine well of the AR-15. It uses standard AR-15 type
magazines and repair parts are readily available.

The M153GNs are Armalite’s flagship
competition rifles that are built to win. This
carbine is compact, light, and ultra-fast. The
low profile handguard covers a free-floating
13.5-in. barrel with Armalite’s own tunable
muzzle brake pinned and welded to create
a 16-in. barrel. An adjustable gas block also
allows the rifle to be individually set for
optimal performance.

Conceived by Eugene Stoner in the late 1950s, the AR-10 was developed as a 7.62x51 mm
basic infantry rifle and has become one of the most renowned rifles in existence.
In its original design it combined a number of features previously introduced in earlier
models, was light weight and had a new gas system patented by Stoner himself.
Since its inception, the AR-10 product line has achieved cult-like status and has
been drastically expanded to include new rifles and carbines like the AR-10

Offering shooters precision capability in a
smaller, lighter package, the carbine version
of the AR-10(T) has all the same features
as its rifle counterpart with the exception
of a 16-in. barrel and attached A2-style
flash hider.

AR-50™ RIFLES
In 1998, Armalite’s normal pattern of sequential designation of models
was altered with the introduction of the AR-50. The model was named to reflect

its caliber, unlike other Armalite models. These rifles were first chambered for the .50-caliber
Browning Machine Gun cartridge, and were later again introduced in .416 Barrett and as a
National Match rifle. The initial AR-50 broadened Armalite’s product line departing from
its norm of lightweight rifles–it weighed in at 40 lbs. Today’s models are lighter due to
advancements in engineering. Regardless of weight, the AR-50 line continues to be
one of our most popular rifles today.

Armalite Intro to 3-Gun
This one-day course will take you above and beyond the basics of the fast-paced
sport of 3-gun. There have been numerous advancements in technique and gear over
the last several years that have dramatically changed the sport. This sport is very
gear intensive and can be overwhelming at first glance. Don’t waste your time and
money trying to figure things out on your own! The instructors from Team Armalite
have spent years competing in the action sports and have been at the forefront of
some of these changes. Let them inform you on how to make the proper choices to
enhance your game. This course is for the beginning 3-gunner up to one who wants
to master the basics better.

Rifle Course
This is an intermediate course designed to enhance your shooting ability out to
800 yards with a precision rifle from supported prone and improvised positions.
This course is designed specifically for the shooter looking to improve their
long-range precision marksmanship while collecting D.O.P.E. on select reactive
steel targets. Participants will learn the techniques required to consistently make
a well-placed shot on a target while collecting necessary and accurate data on
their precision rifle and ammunition. This is a proven course designed for hunters,
military/law enforcement snipers, and professional competitive shooters–this is
not a beginner course. Basic fundamentals will be covered on the first day but it
will not be taught from the beginning level. Participants in this class should
already have a solid background in the basic traits for long-range engagements
to include data books, ballistics, range cards, techniques of observation, and
shooter/observer dialogue.

Required Gear:

The course is moderately physical requiring some of the following physical abilities:
• Operate in a static position while conducting live fire
• Observe and shoot through a magnified telescopic sight (rifle scope)
• Safely manipulate a precision rifle either bolt-action or semi-automatic in order to load, unload, and clear malfunctions
• Multiple target engagements
• Position shooting
• Shooting from barricades
• Carbine disassembly/assembly drills
• Speed/emergency, combat, and tactical reloads
• Manipulation while reloading, malfunctions, and cover/concealment
• A recommended gear list will be sent upon registration
• 100 rounds of Match ammunition
Required Gear:
•50 rounds of Match ammunition
NOTE: Reloaded ammunition is not allowed in STA Training Group rifles
The area offers several hotels STA can pre-book depending on the level of
accommodations the customer prefers.

Armalite Intermediate Carbine Course
This two-day course is designed for the intermediate level shooter who has prior
carbine experience and is looking to further their knowledge and skills with the
most current carbine techniques. This course will focus on marksmanship, speed,
economy of motion, and detailed manipulation of the firearm system. The courseof-fire is up to 100 yards with most of the drills being conducted at the major threat
distance of 25 yards or less. This course will enhance your proficiency in carbine
marksmanship, manipulation, inner functions of the carbine system, and introduce,
as well as reinforce, current and proven carbine techniques. Prior carbine courses
are required.

• Proper zeroing of iron sights and optics
• Offset holds at close distance
• Ammunition
• Fundamentals of marksmanship

• Accessories
This armorer’s course can be tailored for law enforcement, military, civilian
personnel, instructors, or operators who will be responsible for the safe operating
condition of the Armalite rifle system. This course will concentrate on the function
of the rifle in relationship to all of its parts, the repair and replacement of parts,
fitting procedures, and inspection techniques. A complete repair manual will be
included in the course as well as hands-on instruction and visual aids to assist
learning. This course is complete in the service and repair of the rifle short of
manufacturing components.

• Bolt-action or semi-auto precision rifle capable of shooting 1 MOA or better
• At least (4) serviceable magazines are recommended
• Scopes: 30-35 mm main tube, external turret adjustments, mil dot or milling type, MOA reticle (no ranging reticles where a certain size target fits in a box and no hunting scopes)
• Optional: Food/snacks, water

A recommended gear list will be sent upon registration. STA Training Group offers
state-of-the-art tactical load bearing equipment, precision rifles from Armalite,
optics, binoculars, and spotting scopes at NO CHARGE to the customer. Please
coordinate in advance for a list of equipment required for the course. Students
bringing their own gear will need:
• Rifle history
• Ballistic issues
• Law enforcement, military, and civilian use
• Nomenclature
• Maintenance procedures
• Complete disassembly and reassembly of all parts and components
• Inspection techniques
• Troubleshooting and repair
• System modifications and accessories
• Repair tool list
• Function live fire testing (facilities permitting)

• Armalite AR-10 CLOSED enrollment (law enforcement, military, and government ONLY). This may cover fully automatic trigger systems
and/or be held at a secure location.

future of our nation and sport. In addition, our team works with veteran organizations like “One Team. One Fight.” and
“Task Force Dagger” to raise money and awareness for those who have served our country, and the loved ones who
have lost someone special in the fight for our freedom.

Over the next two years, Johnson diversified Strategic Armory
Corps by adding NEXUS Ammo, Armalite, and McMillan
Firearms to the group. In August 2012, the Corporation
acquired the intellectual property, supported by 23 patents,
for technology related to powdered metal core ammunition.
Additionally, Harold Beal, the inventor of the technology, joined
Strategic Armory Corps as a consultant to help develop this
new line, NEXUS Ammo. NEXUS Ammo now has a proprietary
line of ammunition with professional-grade accuracy and highdensity powder core technology.

In mid-2013, Armalite joined the Strategic Armory Corps lineup
of premium brands. Armalite, a 60-year veteran of the industry,
brings a wide variety of semi-automatic modern sporting rifles,
bolt-action, and pistol style firearms to the group. To round off
the Corporation’s offerings, McMillan Firearms Manufacturing
was acquired in November of 2013. McMillan Firearms adds
premium hunting rifles and tactical bolt-action firearms to
Strategic Armory Corps’ product offerings.

In 2010, the founder of Strategic Armory Corps, Mark Johnson,
acquired AWC Systems Technology, LLC (AWC). AWC has
more than 30 years of experience producing high-quality
firearm suppressors. In 2011, Johnson expanded the business
by acquiring Oklahoma-based Surgeon Rifles, LLC, a leading
manufacturer in accurate, durable, proprietary bolt-action
receivers and precision bolt-action custom rifles on the market.
It is during this acquisition that Strategic Armory Corps was born.
