• Swim parallel to shore until you are out of the rip current
• Then, swim at an angle away from the current and toward shore
What to do if you are caught in a rip current or undertow:
Rip currents (sometimes referred to as ‘undertow’) can occur
along any coastline with breaking waves. The strength and
speed of a rip current will increase as wave height increases.
The current doesn’t pull you under, but pulls you out into deeper
water.
