ON THE COVER: Spring is here and what better way to celebrate the season than with a brand new, fresh Spring show. On Saturday, April 30th, the Comm will debut its first annual Greenhouse & Kitchen Show. This year, Show vendors will introduce visitors to new and innovative ways to enhance their homes, inside and out. Many of this year’s exhibitors are new to the Comm’s annual spring show, including Elena Colombo who is known all over the world for her custom fire and wind features and Mark Chuck, 2006 receipient of the F. Lammot Belin Arts Scholarship, whose love of fish is artfully represented in his unique decorative and utilitarian ceramic ware. All of this year’s vendors come with lots of fresh ideas and new approaches to design as well as tips for healthy eating alternatives and sustainable gardening. The Show kicks off with a Launch Party on Friday, April 29th beginning at 5:30pm in the Comm Lobby. The Party is catered by Terra Preta and local craft beers and wine will be served. All proceeds from the Launch Party and Show will benefit the new CommKids Interactive Learning Center which opens in the Fall. Comm Kids After School Program now accepting registrations for Fall 2016 Call Alexandra Colombo at 570-586-8191, ext. 6 or visit the website: waverlycomm.org for more information. The Center combines both educational and recreational elements to offer community members a place to learn more about the region and what it has to offer. With this sentiment, the Waverly Community House has partnered with various local businesses, attractions and organizations in order to provide the public with a modern educational facility while increasing the exposure of many of our valued community neighbors within the Abingtons. The Abington Visitor Center features historic photographs, recreational materials, informational brochures and other displays intended to highlight the Comm and all of the Abingtons. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the Waverly Community House by viewing pieces previously housed in its Archive Space. The Center will continue to update and revolve its exhibits and displays to accentuate the history and vibrancy of both the Comm and the Abington Community. Volunteers come in all sizes, shapes and age groups but the one thing they all have in common is the gift of their time to assist the Comm in making each event here the best that it can be. The Student Volunteer Registry was established to make it easy for students and youth leaders to find and complete volunteer projects that instill in them a sense of service and, at the same time, benefit their community. Volunteering at the Comm is FUN! Whatever your talent, there’s a place for it here. Whether you are good at baking, fundraising, hospitality or sales or you just want to make a difference in your community and have some time to spare, the Comm invites you to join our family of volunteers and learn how rewarding it can be!
