OPENING GENERAL SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
Monday, October 29th 8:00 am-10:00 am
A View from Washington
Howard Fineman, Senior Washington Correspondent and Political Columnist for Newsweek.
As one of America’s foremost political reporters, Howard Fineman breaks down
Washington's latest political developments into manageable pieces in order to discuss
their impact on our industry. With humor and insight, he will lead us through an
animated discussion of the current issues affecting our nation today, answer questions
concerning the most pressing political issues in Washington, and offer predictions for
what’s to come on Capitol Hill.
Housing....This is Going to be BIG!
Chris Nelson, Editor, Housing Policy Debate and Professor of Urban Affairs and
Planning at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
By 2030, it is estimated that about half of the buildings in which Americans live, work
and shop will have been built after 2000 and that the U.S. will need about 127 billion
square feet of newly built and replacement space to accommodate growth projections
(mostly residential). While these projections may seem overwhelming, they also
demonstrate that nearly half of what will be built by 2030 doesn't even exist yet, giving the current
generation a vital opportunity to reshape future growth and development strategies. The challenge for
our industry is to create the right market and regulatory climates to accommodate this growth in more
sustainable and concrete ways.
CLOSING GENERAL SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
Tuesday, October 30th 10:15 am-12:15 pm
Employment Law Nightmares
Jay D. St. Clair, Partner, Bradley Arant Rose & White, LLP
Don’t lose any more sleep! Jay will count down the “Top 9” reasons for employment
lawsuits in this extremely informative and entertaining session. As he works his way
toward #1, you might be surprised by the common mistakes that made the list. Jay
represents employers in virtually all matters arising in the workplace, including
discrimination, harassment and retaliation; wage and hour regulation; occupational
safety and health law; labor management relations; and workers’ compensation.
Do Right, Don’t Screw Up and Finish Strong!
Clebe McClary, recipient of the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts
That is the mission statement Clebe McClary lives by. On his 19th recon patrol, deep in
hostile territory in Vietnam, Clebe and his Marine unit engaged in hand-to-hand combat
with the enemy. Suffering devastating injuries, including the loss of his left arm and left
eye, Clebe continued to lead his men. Two years in military hospitals, more than 30
major surgeries to retain usage of the remainder of his body and countless hours of
physical therapy attest to his belief that any mission assigned should be accomplished in a superior
manner, no matter what the obstacles. His message of courage, determination and dedication is the
“kick in the pants” we all need to remember that with the right attitude, all things are possible.

Conference Expo hall, with more than 18,000 square feet of exhibit space for
companies to showcase the latest technologies, products, and services for the
ready mixed concrete industry. Don’t miss your chance to be among the best!
Last year’s Expo brought a record number of exhibitors to ready mixed concrete
professionals in Orlando. This year, another record number is expected. Sign
up for your space today and network with the leaders of the industry in October!
Fall Conference Exhibitor Information: Frank Cavaliere, Exhibit Manager
240.485.1141 fax: 301.567.1605 [email protected].
Producer to Producer Seminars: Divided into three tracks, Operations, Environmental & Safety,
these seminars run concurrently. The ground rules for the seminars are simple: 1) all presenters
must be employed by ready mixed concrete producers, and 2) each presentation will conclude
promptly at the end of 20 minutes. The seminars will center on success stories. Attendees will be
able to apply these ideas and lessons learned into their own ready mixed concrete operations.
BAC Seminars: These seminars provide valuable insight into trends and business techniques to improve
overall performance of RMC producers. RMC industry leaders and professionals from other industries
tackle critical business issues in these sessions and offer practical solutions and proven approaches to get
the desired positive effects from your operations. These sessions are fast paced and packed full of
practical information that will surely help producers raise the bar in their companies.
New Products Seminars: The Fall Conference will include a New Products Seminar in a general
session for all attendees on the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 29. This ninety-minute session will be a
collection of short presentations on new, cutting edge equipment and services available to the
ready mixed concrete industry. Any Expo exhibitor interested in presenting should contact NRMCA’s
Frank Cavaliere (Phone: 240.485.1141) or [email protected].
Tours: Buses will be leaving the hotel at 12:45 pm on Tuesday to visit the Maricopa Ready Mix
plant, a state-of-the-art facility designed for desert concreting. The group will then proceed to an
adjacent aggregate production facility for a tour of its operations. An alternate option to the free
tour is a professional tour of Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation’s Taliesin West. There are a limited
number of seats available for this tour. An additional fee applies for this tour.
National Mixer Driver Championship: Sponsored by the Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau, the 2nd
Annual National Mixer Driver Championship will be
conducted in conjunction with the conference. More

for the title "Best of the Best". Watch the Challenge
