DM Advantage® Two-Speed Retrofit Instruction for 2007
DM Advantage® Two-Speed Retrofit Instruction
for 2007 – 2012 Volvo and Mack Applications
Use with Horton Retrofit Kit Part # 995604
Horton Retrofit Kit Part # 995604 includes:
Air Solenoid Valve, Jumper Harness, 1 – 90 degree Air Fitting,
1 – “T” Air Fitting, 1 – Swivel Air Fitting, Air Line (12 ft.), Conduit (12 ft.), 12 – Cable Ties
Retrofit BorgWarner Cool Logic (HDMS), Behr and BorgWarner E‐Viscous Fan Drives
1) Installation Summary for Horton’s DM Advantage® Two-Speed Fan Drive
a)
Identify the correct Horton DM Advantage Two-Speed Fan Drive and fan blade part number (see page 6).
Reference Horton application literature # 23051 (Volvo) or 23052 (Mack).
b) Replace the current fan drive and fan with the Horton DM Advantage Two-Speed and fan blade (Figure 1C, 1D).
Note: It may be necessary to utilize a 45 or 90 degree swivel fitting to allow for air line clearance.
c) Install air solenoid valve and air lines.
d) Reprogram ECM at a Volvo or Mack dealer.

Install the Solenoid Valve and Air Line
2) For Mack GU Granite and CH/CX Pinnacle Models
a) Locate the air solenoid valve wire connector harness near the steering column location. Remove the plug from the
connector (Figure 2A).
b) Mount the solenoid on the driver side firewall using existing bracket and plug in harness connector (Figure 2B).
Note: Jumper harness may be required to connect solenoid valve to harness.
c) Locate the green source air fitting on the driver side firewall above the air solenoid (Figure 2C). Note: Make sure the air
is removed from the vehicle by opening the tank drain or pumping the brakes.
d) Remove the plug and route a new air line from this fitting to the in-port(Top) of the air solenoid (Figure 2D).
e) Next, route a new air line from the side of the air solenoid to the Horton DM Advantage Two-Speed Fan Drive.
Use conduit to protect the air line and route to prevent damage from heat, rubbing or moving components on the
engine. Secure with tie straps.

3)
For Mack GU Models
a)
Locate the air solenoid valve wire connector harness near the steering column location. Remove the plug from the
connector (Figure 3A).
b)
Mount the air solenoid on the driver side firewall using existing bracket and plug in harness connector
(Figure 3B). Note: Jumper Harness may be required to connect solenoid valve to harness.
c)
Cut the green air line located above the air solenoid. Add a ¼” compression “T” fitting to this line
(Figure 3C). Note: Make sure the air is removed from the vehicle by opening the tank drain or pumping the
brakes.
d)
Install a new air line from the “T” to the in-port(Top) of the air solenoid (Figure 3D).
e)
Next, route a new air line from the side of the air solenoid to the Horton DM Advantage Two-Speed Fan Drive. Use
conduit to protect the air line and route to prevent damage from heat, rubbing or moving components on the engine.
Secure with tie straps.

4) For Volvo VN and VNL Models
a) Locate the air solenoid valve wire connector harness near the steering column location. Remove the plug from the
connector (Figure 4A).
b) Mount the air solenoid on the driver side firewall using mounting bolt supplied and plug in harness connector
(Figure 4B). Note: Jumper harness may be required to connect solenoid valve to harness.
c) Locate the air manifold on the driver side firewall above the air solenoid (Figure 4C). Note: Make sure the air is
removed from the vehicle by opening the tank drain or pumping the brakes.
d) Remove existing Schrader valve fitting and replace with ¼” compression fitting, route a new air line from this fitting to
the in-port(Top) of the air solenoid (Figure 4D).
e) Next, route a new air line from the side of the air solenoid to the Horton DM Advantage Two-Speed Fan Drive.
Use conduit to protect the air line and route to prevent damage from heat, rubbing or moving components on the
engine. Secure with tie straps.

5) For Mack MRU/LEU Terra Pro Models:
a) Locate the air solenoid valve wire connector harness, which runs inside the driver’s side frame rail beside the radiator.
Remove the plug from the connector and plug in the jumper harness if required. (Figure 5A).
b) Mount the valve with the exhaust down on the bottom left side of the radiator using the existing bolt near the A/C
Service Port. Use the provided bolt to install the air solenoid (Figure 5A). Note: The jumper harness may be longer
than needed bunch and wire tie this together.
c) Locate air manifold on the left side of the vehicle near the back of the engine and above the frame rail. Note: Make
sure the air is removed from the vehicle by opening the tank drain or pumping the brakes.
d) Remove existing Schrader valve (Figure 5C) and replace with ¼” compression fitting and route air line to the
in-port (Top) of the air solenoid.
e) Next, route a new air line from the side of the air solenoid to the Horton DM Advantage Two-Speed fan drive. Keep the
air solenoid wire lead and airline near the A/C tube by tie straping them to it (Figure 5B). Use conduit to protect the air
line and route to prevent damage from heat, rubbing or moving components on the engine and secure with tie straps.

Reprogram ECU
Reprogram ECU by calling the Volvo/Mack Technical Line at 1-800-888-2039. This must be completed at a Volvo/Mack
dealer so that they can download the software from the Volvo/Mack technical group through a laptop that is connected to
the vehicle.
You will need to provide the following information:
a) Last six digits of the VIN.
b) Tell them what you are converting (i.e. HDMS, Behr or BW E -viscous) fan drive to an on/off (Note: The DM Advantage
Two-Speed is controlled the same as an on/off).
c) MRU/LEU Terra Pro (reference) US07 change field 262 to 20991507 in VDA.
d) US10 change field 262 to 21382241 in VDA.
e) Provide the fan blade diameter and drive ratio
f) The Volvo technical group will update the program and send this to the laptop, updating the ECU.
Run the truck to build air pressure. Once you have at least 90 psi of air pressure, test the operation of the fan drive by
unplugging the air solenoid valve. (WARNING: stay clear of the fan blade to prevent injury).
