Dear Colleagues and Friends, Welcome to our Rights List Spring 2016! We are very pleased to inform you of all that is new this season: First of all, we celebrate our Lieselotte’s 10th anniversary with a particularly gorgeous new birthday edition in picture book. Liliane Susewind and the Dino Wheelies are also back with brand-new stories; and there are other compelling sequels as well as exciting new stand-alones. Meet Luna-Lila, for example – the perfect (imaginary or not?) companion a girl might have … or the Hempels – a little people with great hearts (and somewhat peculiar appetites). >>Eagerly anticipated: A new story with the most popular picture book cow >>Birthday: A favourite topic in picture books In YA/All Age, there is the long awaited finale of Kay Meyer’s trilogy “The World’s Pages” – “The Blood Book”. Last but not least, we are pleased to present very special non-fiction books (watch out for “Vegan – the Why and Wherefore”) as well as new board books and educational titles to you. In short, there is something for everyone on this list – and we would be happy to provide you with special recommendations! Please do not hesitate to contact us with any query you might have. We would also be delighted to see you at the Bologna Book Fair: You will find our stand in Hall 30, B39. With kindest wishes, your FISCHER Foreign Rights team in children’s books: Elke Fuhrmann ([email protected]) Esther Mallm ([email protected]) Ilka Wesche ([email protected]) Lieselotte is looking forward to her birthday party with all of her friends. But everything remains strangely quiet. Is no one making preparations? The farmer’s wife has not baked a cake, the garden is not decorated and the chickens are busy doing other things. Does nobody remember that it’s her birthday? Sadly, she gathers together some candles, puts on last year’s birthday hat and secretly takes some biscuits from the kitchen. All on her own, she wanders down to the stream. But what’s that? All her friends are waiting there for her to congratulate her. The day turns into a fabulous party! 3 – 8 Picture book 9 – 19 Children’s fiction 20 – 23 Young adult fiction / All Age 27 – 31 Duden Alexander Steffensmeier Alexander Steffensmeier was born in the region of East Westphalia in 1977. I’m big. I’m brave. I’m on my way. >>About children’s biggest wish: An own pet >>Every child goes through the phase of finding farting hilarious 7 >>A turbulent family story with poignant and funny illustrations >>Crackling picture book fun for spoilt little princes and their families. It’s Prince Emil’s birthday. Will he finally get a pet? After an extra big portion of crackling pea puree and three golden mugs of hot chocolate for breakfast, something is mightily bubbling in his belly. With a long toot, a fart escapes him. Oops! Bo is very angry. He tore his shoelace, one of his action figures has disappeared and now there is broccoli (!) for lunch. That’s it! Bo is moving out. – His tent is lopsided but Bo doesn’t care. It’s getting dark and cold but he still doesn’t care. But hang on, what was that rustling noise? His sister is moving out as well (!!) and crawling into his tent. Even Mum and Dad are coming. That’s it! Bo is going back into the house. – Unfortunately, Emil then gets nothing but boring presents: a remotely controlled castle ghost, a fully automatic monstermolecular-knight-robot – even though all he wants is a pet! The prince is not happy at all. And his farts become increasingly loud and stinky. A big cloud of stinky farts floats outside and directly hits a flying tyrannosaurus shriex. It passes out and drops down right in front of the prince. There it is, the mega strong pet he has been wishing for! Suddenly the doorbell rings. And who is waiting in front of the door? The entire family … Bernd Kohlhepp pointedly sets the right tone and convincingly tells the story of a little hero on his way to growing up. Lisa Tetzner’s famous novel “The Black Brothers” tells their story. The expressive images by the Swiss artist give an unbelievable, unique effect to the story and fascinate readers and critics. The story of Robinson Crusoe is one of the most enthralling adventures of world literature – and one of the classics of children’s literature. More than 200 years ago, Johann David Wyss created a robinsonade for children which became an international success. Instead of the lonely Robinsons, with Wyss, a Swiss family of six runs ashore and, with many years of work, turns the island wilderness into a comfortable domicile. When finally there is the chance to return to civilization, the family has to make up their mind: Shall they – once again – leave everything behind? When Piet wakes up one morning, he discovers small wet footprints on his bed – and indeed, from the painting that he painted the night before with his uncle, a real pirate captain has sprung into his room: Captain Lollebacke! Captain Lollebacke urgently needs help because his enemy, the Nasty Gerd, has seized his pirate ship and is now searching for Lollebacke’s treasure … Henry and this Thing with the Bear Nine-year-old Henry and his parents have moved to the country. Now he misses his friends and his football team. When the new team does not want him, he simply invents owning a pet bear. When all excuses don’t help anymore and the children from his class finally want to see the bear, Henry is flabbergasted when, all of a sudden, a bear lumbers around in his garden. The title won the German Youth Literature Award in 1984. Mr. Kubin invented the broom, the clothesline and the umbrella. Not very many people know this. Beautiful Agatha doesn’t know it either, which is a great pity, indeed: After all, it was only for the love of her, that Mr. Kubin made all these inventions. But since he is not only very much in love with her, but also rather shy, he doesn’t dare to speak to Agatha. Timur decides to take the bashful inventor by the hand and help him win his love. 20 Young adult fiction Young adult fiction 21 The prince from the realm of the elves – magical, beautiful Romantasy Commemorating the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death >>A story and characters to fall in love with, to pine for and to melt your heart >>The debut of a young female author >>The books with the blue ribbon: Special, literary, choicely selected books >>Shakespeare in the 21st century As white as snow, as red as blood: In the middle of the night, a whispering voice lures Sira into the forest. Among them are many teenagers and young adults. But why is that? Is it only about health and lifestyle, or is there more to it? Do animals also have a right to a life in dignity and freedom? Children love records. Even better when these are spine-tingling records of the body, for example the amount of earwax a person produces during their life or the number of bathing pools a child can fill with their urine. The renowned journalist and animal rights activist Hilal Sezgin convincingly and emphatically presents the reasons for living as a vegan and gives an insight into a world in which animals are no longer subjects to humans but in which their lives are respected and cherished.
