Scouting The Lancers
With a record of 10-2-1 and 21 points, Omaha is the top dog in the USHL’s
Western Conference. The Lancers have gotten stellar goaltending from
their tandem of Cole Bruns and Hayden Hawkey, and their offense is third
in the USHL, scoring almost four goals per game. Leading scorer Jake
Randolph leads the USHL with 26 points on six goals and 20 assists in the
team’s first 13 games. His linemate and fellow University of NebraskaOmaha commit Tyler Vesel leads the USHL in goal scoring with 12 tallies.
The third man on the Lancers’ top line is Omaha native Gage Hough, who
is second in the league behind Randolph with 19 points. Forward Luca
Frigo has also been a big part of the offensive attack with six goals of
his own. Bruns had a historic start in between the pipes, shutting down
opponents in five consecutive games to start the season. In nine games,
the netminder has a goals against average of 1.78 and a save percentage
at .935. Hawkey has also had success, not only shutting out the Storm in
the teams’ only meeting of the season, but posting wins in all four of his
appearences this season. The Storm had the Lancers’ number last season,
winning six of the eight matchups between the two, and will look to even
the season series after losing 2-0 in Omaha on Oct. 26.
Musketeers Score Two In Each Frame, Top Storm
The Sioux City Musketeers scored two goals in each period and
defeated the Tri-City Storm 6-1 at the Tyson Events Center on Saturday
night. Forward Ross Olsson scored his first goal of the season for Tri-City
in the loss, while defenseman Jalen Schulz got his first point of the year,
picking up an assist on the lone Storm goal of the night.

STORM IN BRIEF
The Big Labosky
Although he has yet to score a goal this seasosn, Storm forward
Dan Labosky has been a big reason for the team’s recent offensive
success. During three games last week, the Edina, Minn. native
has racked up four assists and a +3 rating. Three of his helpers
have been of the primary variety. Last Wednesday night against
Waterloo, Labosky was in alone against goaltender Mathias
Israelsson on two different occasions. Both times he made the
unselfish play and elected to pass to his center Joel L’Esperance.
Each time he put the puck in the perfect position for L’Esperance
to finish for a goal. While his team was killing off a Stars’ power
play on Friday night, a loose puck rolled into the Lincoln end.
Labosky sprinted full speed after the biscuit and retrived it, won a
battle to keep possession, and fed it right onto the stick of forward
Chase Berger, who excecuted a perfect deke and slipped the puck
into the net for a shorthanded goal.
Horn Making Things Happen
Storm forward Christian Horn made quite the impression in his
first game in front of the fans at the Viaero Event Center last
Wednesday night, scoring a goal and three assists in a 4-2 win over
Waterloo. His line that included Dan Labosky and Joel L’Esperance
was clicking, as the three forwards combined for nine points.
L’Esperance found the back of the net twice, while Labosky picked
up three assists. Horn followed that performance up with another
assist in a win over Lincoln on Friday night. The Plymouth, Minn.
native left the University of Minnesota for the USHL and Tri-City,
and hopes to continue to be a difference-maker for the Storm this
season.

During the Storm’s three games last week, a bunch of Tri-City skaters Drew Mayer
had special nights on the scoreboard. In a win over Waerloo, Storm
forwards Drew Mayer and Christian Horn got their first goals of the Michigan

season while defenseman Garrett Cecere recorded his first multipoint game of the year with two assists. Then during the shutout of
Lincoln, defenseman Tory Dello got his first two points of the year,
scoring an empty net goal to seal the win and an assist on Thomas
Aldworth’s first period goal. Forward Kyle Eastman had the primary
assist on the Aldworth tally, which was his first point of the season.
Finally on Saturday night in Sioux City, Ross Olsson scored his first
Storm goal and Jalen Schulz had his first point, picking up a second
assist on Olsson’s tally.

Hitting The Road
Following Friday’s game with Omaha, the Storm will hit the road
and play five consecutive games away from the friendly confines of the Viaero Event Center. First, Tri-City travels to Dubuque to
face the Fighting Saints on Nov. 15 before heading to Sioux Falls
to face the Stampede the following night. Then the Storm head to Chicago to play the Steel on Nov. 22 and Ann Arbor to face Team USA on Nov. 23-24.

TRI-CITY STORM COACHING STAFF
Head Coach: Josh Hauge
Josh Hauge is entering his second full season as head coach of the Storm. After taking over the duties midway through the 2011-12 season, Hauge led Tri-City on a lateseason run to the USHL Playoffs.
Before the Storm, Hauge, 34, was the head coach of the Alaska Ice Dogs (NAHL) for
three seasons, compiling a regular-season record of 111-49-15 and a postseason
record of 20-9-0. He spent a total of six seasons in Alaska, and won the Robertson
Cup with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in 2011. Hauge was promoted on December 7, 2011,
becoming the sixth General Manager and Head Coach of the Storm.
A native of Rosemount, Minn., Hauge began his coaching career as the head coach
of the Twin Cities Northern Lights (MJHL) in 2002-03. In his only season behind the
bench, Hauge won the league championship. He then coached the Dubuque Thunderbirds for two seasons.
Overall, he comprised a regular-season record of 93-27-7 in three seasons coaching in the Tier III – MNJHL.
In seven seasons as a head coach in junior hockey, he has coached teams to one national championship, two
national championship runner-ups, two regular season titles and four divisional championships.

The 31-year old comes to Kearney after
a two-year stint as an assistant with the
South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL.
The 26-year old was a goaltender for
his hometown team, the University of
Alaska-Fairbanks before beginning his coaching career as an assistant to Hauge with the Fairbanks Ice
Dogs of the NAHL. The two had success, compiling a
record of 72-37-7 and winning the National Championship in 2011.
Before the Stingrays, Bittner spent three seasons as an
assistant coach and video coordinator with his alma
mater, Ohio State. In his four seasons as a player with the
Buckeyes, he registered 76 points on 37 goals and 39 assists. He also served as team captain in 2004.
Bittner started in the USHL, playing as a forward in 108
games with the Sioux Falls Stampede from 1999-2001.
He scored a total of 43 goals and 54 assists.
Largen had immediate success as the Head Coach of
the Twin Cities Northern Lights of the MNJHL. There
Largen compiled an overall record of 87-9-2 over
two seasons and won back-to-back regular season
and league championships.
Assistant Coach: Erik Blase
Erik Blase joins the Storm staff as the video coordinator in 2013-14. The 34-year-old has experience coaching junior hockey and manages Flexxcoach, a service to help other hockey coaches
stay organized with video scouting, practice plans and other documents.
In the EJHL, Blase served as the head coach for both the Hampton Roads Whalers in Chesapeake,
Va. and the East Coast Eagles in Raleigh, N.C.
Blase played and coached at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.

2003-04 Anderson Cup Champions
The 2013-14 Tri-City Storm season marks the 14th year of
hockey in the heartland. Since the Storm kicked off its inaugural season in 2000 there has been plenty of drama and excitement. But the 2003-04 season will forever be remembered in
Kearney.
In just their fourth season, the Storm had the perfect mix of
skill and toughness to delight their fans with 43 wins, a franchise record.
Tri-City racked up 91 total points and brought home the Anderson Cup, the trophy awarded to the USHL franchise with
the most points during the regular season. The Storm also
recieved recognition as the USHL Organization of the Year for
the second time in their history.
It was just the first full season for Head Coach Bliss Littler, who

until the end of the 2007-08 season.
Five players from the Anderson Cup winning team went on to play professionally in the National Hockey
League including Bill Thomas, Steve Wagner, Jack Hillen, Peter Mannino and Christian Hanson. Hillen is still
active in the NHL and represented the Washington Capitals in the 2013 NHL Playoffs. Hanson signed a twoway contract with the St. Louis Blues in advance of the 2013-14 season and is steps away from returning to
the NHL, starting the season with the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League.
All throughout the 2013-14 season the Storm will be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their success in
2003-04, culminating in Anderson Cup Tribute Night against the Lincoln Stars on April 5.
