THE MISSION OF HOLY ROSARY PARISH
FRENSTAT TEXAS — THE JEWEL IN THE WOODS
A PARISH OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
IN THE DIOCESE OF AUSTIN
THE PEOPLE OF HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH PROCLAIM THAT OUR MISSION IS TO BECOME A WELCOMING FAMILY. AS WE ARE UNITED WITH GOD, SO WE BECOME ONE
WITH EACH OTHER. OUR ANCESTORS PASSED ON THE CATHOLIC FAITH AND MORALS TO THEIR FAMILIES AND NOW IT IS
OUR TURN.

WE RESPOND TO ONE ANOTHER IN THE SPIRIT OF NURTURING, HEALING AND CARING.

WE ARE A SMALL BUT GIVING COMMUNITY, DEDICATED TO
THE SPIRITUAL GROWTH OF THE FAMILY, THE PARISH AND
THE COMMUNITY.

WE FIND OUR STRENGTH, WISDOM AND DIRECTION
THROUGH CHRIST. WE ARE STRONGLY COMMITTED TO
THE CATHOLIC EDUCATION OF ANYONE WHO SEEKS
GODS TRUTH.

WE ENVISION THIS PARISH COMMUNITY AS A BRIGHT
LIGHT FOR THE FUTURE TO CARRY ON THE MISSION OF
CHRIST. NOT ONLY FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THIS COMMUNITY, BUT ALSO FOR THE MANY PEOPLE WHO VISIT.

LIVING GOD’S COMMANDS
The first reading forms part of Moses’ farewell
discourse, a call to the people to return to God. It is not
a legalistic summons; rather, it is an appeal to heart
and soul. It outlines a command that is not impossible
to follow, or too difficult to undertake, or too expensive. Look into your hearts, says Moses; there you will
find what to do.
Paul sees Jesus Christ as the image of God, the
agent of creation and preservation. We sense, in his
words, things profound: “dominions or principalities
or powers.” But in the midst of that, Paul keeps his
attention on Jesus Christ, head of the church. It is in
Christ that we find fullness and reconciliation—in the
blood of the cross.
Luke’s Gospel illustrates the double commandment
of love with the story of the Good Samaritan. The story
is a radical one, for it comes to focus on the question of
who my “neighbor” is. That neighbor is not identified
with any group, but rather by the scope of our compassion.

GOSPEL MEDITATIONS
Who is your neighbor? Israelites were to love other Israelites
and resident aliens as they do themselves. The fact that a Samaritan is the one who attended to the injured man is astonishing in
itself but that he went far beyond what was expected is amazing.
A neighbor is not simply someone in need. How will we go beyond what is expected to care for and assist others? The law of
God’s mercy is written in our hearts. How will we respond?
