DOWNTOWN AURORA VISUAL ARTS (DAVA)
ADAMS COUNTY MUSEUM
Aurora Public Schools Art
Educators’ Exhibit
Book Sale Fundraiser
Through March 4
Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
DAVA, 1405 Florence St., Denver
Free and Open to the Public
Please join us for an exhibit of Aurora Art
teachers’ artworks at DAVA. This marks the 16th
annual Aurora Art Educators show. Through this
exhibit, art educators of Aurora Public Schools
get together to celebrate their accomplishments
through personal artworks. For the fourth year in
a row, the educators will be creating and donating
small artworks in conjunction with their largescale pieces. The theme for this year was garden
gnomes. Participating teachers will be creating
masterpieces out of these gnomes to be sold for
$30. Grade levels will be creating Ginormagnomes
that will be auctioned off. All proceeds raised from
this portion of the show will be donated to A.J.
Boik’s Memorial Scholarship at Rocky Mountain
College of Art + Design. A.J. graduated from
Gateway High School and was planning to attend
RMCA+D to study Art Education, but his life was
cut short in the Aurora Theater shooting. Please
attend the exhibit and consider buying a small
work to help support this important memorial
scholarship. For more information about the
exhibition, email: [email protected] or call DAVA
at 303.367.5886.

Honk! JR.
Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling
duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals
on the farm are quick to notice and point this out,
despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling
rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds
himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the
while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat.
Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique
characters and finds out being different is not a
bad thing to be. Honk, JR. was adapted for young
performers and, with a score by George Stiles
and Anthony Drewe (Mary Poppins), Honk! JR. is
a heartwarming celebration of being different
that is sure to delight audiences of all ages with
its sparkling wit, unique charm and memorable
score. Witty and hilarious, but also deeply moving,
Honk! JR. will treat audiences to equal amounts of
laughter and tears.

Saturday, March 26, 7:30 p.m.
1405 Florence Street, one block south of Colfax
in the Aurora Cultural Arts District
Free and open to the public
The exhibit Brain Storm addresses life choices
through artworks by DAVA youth. During this
project cycle, middle and high school students
tackled important subjects like substance abuse,
health, and racial issues, while elementary school
students focused on nutrition and exercise.
The resulting exhibit is designed to educate the
community through the eyes of young people.
Middle school students in DAVA’s Job Training
Programs chose to focus on mindfulness through
a group meditative weaving project as a way to
deal with stress and other issues. Another group is
focusing on the importance of brain care through
mixed media collages of photos, drawings and
words. Younger students in DAVA’s Open Studio
focused on the difference between natural food
colors and artificial food colors. Advanced High
school students in the Open Studio created
individual linocuts focusing on the effects of
smoking, fresh food production, self-discipline
and the importance of balanced diets. For more
information about the exhibit, email gallery@
