One Day in Oregon
Board Message
On any given day, throughout Oregon, thousands of people are working together to
improve the quality of life in their communities. This is the nature of Oregonians.
Thanks to donors who have established funds with The Oregon Community Foundation, the
mission of the Foundation is to strengthen charitable, educational, cultural, and environmental
improvement efforts of Oregonians.
Strength Lies in Differences,
Not in Similarities.
S T E P H E N COV E Y
This annual report celebrates the wide range of activities The Oregon Community Foundation
supports across the state – every day of every year. In 2007, the Foundation’s donors provided
$56 million to 1,600 nonprofit organizations and assisted 2,100 students with scholarships for college.
The Oregon Community Foundation was created 34 years ago to be a stable and growing
endowment to strengthen community improvement efforts throughout the state. Since then, the
growth of donor funds and the diversity of organizations they support have helped build a firm
foundation for Oregon’s future.
As the Board of Directors, we are humbled by the generosity of our donors, the dedication
of our volunteers, and the commitment of our grantees. As you read this annual report, you will
realize how much people care about our state.

What a Difference a Day Makes
This report pictures donors, grantees, volunteers and scholarship recipients – a small

A Tremendous Year in Review!
2007
This Annual Report celebrates a tremendous year of achievement for the many friends
and supporters who help The Oregon Community Foundation. Our founders had no idea
that in just 34 years, our endowment would grow to become $1 billion. Most
importantly, this endowment now provides $56 million annually in grants and
scholarships to the communities of Oregon.
The Oregon Community Foundation is one of Oregon’s great success stories
and it is all about people voluntarily giving to help their communities.

2007 Special Initiatives
Expanding Access to Higher Education:
Through the OCF scholarship
program, 2,100 Oregon students received scholarships for higher education in 2007.
The ASPIRE volunteer program, which gives high school students practical, hands-on
help with the college and scholarship application process, will expand from 83 high
schools to 115 schools. Hundreds of Oregon volunteers make these two programs effective.
Early Childhood Education:
Investing in the future, OCF offered new leadership
in early childhood development; as a result parents became better first teachers for their
children, child care workers learned valuable skills in child development and young
children attained pre-literacy skills to succeed in school.
Latino Partnership Project:
Responding to our changing state, OCF made the
decision to expand its Latino Partnership Project Initiative to Southern and Central Oregon
to support Latino leaders and build bridges between Latino and non-Latino communities.

Giving through OCF allows donors the flexibility
to customize their giving programs – during their lifetimes
or through estate gifts – to achieve their unique charitable
objectives. Donors can select from among a variety of
charitable fund options. Donors also select when to give
and what asset is effective to give.
2.
OCF offers donors efficiency in charitable giving
critical work that is going on across the state, together we can:

Find creative solutions to common needs and aspirations;
I
Build an inclusive spirit of community encompassing all of
Oregon’s population groups;
I

The Oregon Community Foundation’s Regional Leadership Councils play a vital role in
fulfilling the Foundation’s mission to improve life in Oregon. These Councils are one of OCF’s
most important links to the many diverse communities in the state. They identify regional
trends and needs, develop strategies and mobilize resources to address these needs, promote
philanthropic giving in their regions, and represent OCF in the community. The Leadership
Councils are catalysts for informed civic action and philanthropic leadership in Oregon.

The Oregon Society
The OCF board has created the Oregon Society to honor those who have named OCF in their estate
plans, either by will designation or through a trust or other deferred gift. These gifts are of inestimable
importance to the future health of our state and our communities.
The following individuals have given us permission to publicly recognize their thoughtful generosity.
Others have requested that their names remain confidential. As we establish The Oregon Society, it is
important that we become aware of persons who have named OCF in their estate plans so that we can
invite them to lend their public support to leaving a legacy.
