Q Frontier will be adding new ERJ services between Austin, TX and Branson, MO, through Chautauqua, its sibling airline of parent Republic Holdings. Q SkyWest has announced the formation of a new company (name still to be decided) encompassing the merger of Atlantic Southeast Airlines and ExpressJet Airlines under the SkyWest umbrella. Embraer has just published its 20-year market forecast for the 30 to 120-seat commercial aircraft segment. From 2011 to 2030, the company estimates demand for 7,225 airplanes valued at $320 billion in that capacity category. One third of all deliveries, 2,350 aircraft, will be destined for airlines in North America. Q AMR Eagle will introduce new twice daily services from Chicago O'Hare to Wilmington, NC, Grand Island, NE and Charlottesville, WV. These new services will use the ERJ 135 and ERJ 140 aircraft. Q Daily AMR Eagle ERJ services will be added from Dallas Ft. Worth, TX to Durango, CO plus Mazatlan and Morelia in Mexico, using ERJ 140s and ERJ 145s. Q When asked about American Eagle spin off and the state of the regional jet market, Dan Garton, President of American Eagle recently stated, “I think 50-seat jets have gotten a bad rap because of recent fuel economics, but their impact on the P&L is not as bad as some people make it to be. In fact, for some markets they are still the best way to go.” For more information about pre-owned Embraer aircraft visit www.eccleasing.com China is expected to lead the world in RPM growth. Its annual 7.5% average rate will surpass the world average of 5.2% and be well above the 3.5% growth forecast for the more mature North American and European (4.4%) markets. You may have seen a new ad in magazines celebrating the one thousand order milestone for the E-Jets program. At the Paris Air Show in June, Embraer announced it reached the landmark number after concluding the sale of E190s to a new customer in China. It is a remarkable achievement when you consider that the first E-Jet, an E170 delivered to LOT Polish Airlines, entered revenue service just seven years ago in April 2004. Since then, nearly 800 E-Jets have rolled off the assembly line in São José Wha Welcome to this first issue of Journeys, a new publication that allows us to share news and views from Embraer and its airline customers from across the continent and around the world. One of my objectives in my new capacity as Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Commercial Aviation is to highlight some of the experiences of our local and foreign operators and see how they’re deploying their airplanes. Airlines are doing some remarkable things with their ERJs and E-Jets that are truly changing the way people fly. For years, the United States has been an aviation pioneer and the largest air travel market. Concepts that start here are often exported and adapted in other countries. Low fare airlines, regional jets, hub and spoke networks, live in-flight television – all are innovations that were born in North America. We’re now seeing examples of those innovations with customers flying Embraer aircraft in Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. With the rise of emerging economies, technology and business, innovation is all around us. And that will have a tremendous influence on how we travel and even what aircraft may look like in the future. In any business, knowing what the innovators are doing helps you stay focused. I hope that Journeys will help you stay informed. Charlie Hillis Vice President, Sales & Marketing Commercial Aviation North America dos Campos. Those airplanes will service 60 airlines from 40 countries, including six new customers that will take delivery of their first E-Jets through the end of 2012. There are over 300 E-Jets in service and on order with carriers in North America. With its fleet of 144 E-Jets, Republic Airways of Indianapolis is the airline operating the biggest fleet. JetBlue has over 100 on order with 51 in service. Air Canada has 60 E-Jets in service, and US Airways has 15 E-Jets in operation. Through Republic, E-Jets are flying for Delta Connection, United Express, US Airways Express and Frontier Express. As E-Jets gain popularity with airlines and passengers alike, we are now looking forward to the next E-Jets milestone! p A t U s t' JetBlue Airways has announced a new winter schedule that will increase its presence at San Juan (SJU). In addition to inaugurating new flights between Hartford and SJU in January, the airline will introduce local E190 service to three additional Caribbean destinations from the Puerto Rican city. David Barger, JetBlue CEO, has stated his objective of linking more destinations in the Caribbean with SJU. The E190 will be used to fulfill part of that strategy. The aircraft’s smaller capacity is ideal for offering high-frequency flights and addressing the region’s seasonal variations in passenger demand. One daily E190 nonstop between SJU and St. Maarten starts November 17. Effective December 15, JetBlue will serve St. Thomas with two daily nonstops and St. Croix once a day with E190s. The cities are just short hops from SJU block time is between 30 and 40 minutes each way. The E190 will be the only jet on these city pairs. Cape Air currently flies Cessna equipment on the same routes. The new short-haul flights are timed to provide convenient connections to and from JetBlue’s nonstop services with cities on the US mainland. JetBlue already operates five daily roundtrips between SJU and Santo Domingo and also serves Orlando, Ft Lauderdale and Jacksonville nonstop with the E190. Measured by ASMs, JetBlue claims to be the airline offering the greatest capacity to and from Santo Domingo. The 50th E190 to be delivered to JetBlue recently stopped in Bridgetown and Antigua on a delivery flight from the Embraer factory in São José dos Campos. Airline representatives from LIAT toured the aircraft on the ground and then flew around Barbados before conducting a similar inspection in Antigua. The visit was part of LIAT’s evaluation of smaller-capacity jets that it hopes to acquire as part of a fleet modernization plan. As with its A320s, JetBlue’s E190s are outfitted with LiveTV™ and XM Satellite Radio to provide passengers with a consistent in-flight product standard across the entire fleet. Embraer and the E190 are no strangers to the Caribbean. A previous operator of the ERJ145, Air Caraïbes of Guadeloupe has been flying a single E190 around the Caribbean from its base in Fort de France since 2007. Welcome!
