The MMA was born from the need to confront different martial arts styles and fighting sports, in order to
identify which one is the most efficient in a real situation. In the past, fighters of jiu-jitsu, muay thai, kick
boxing, judo, karate or Olympic wrestling would compete in a violent and disorganized way, known as
"vale-tudo". Nowadays, the need to show which technique is the most efficient is not existent. In fact, today
athletes are trying to practice all types of martial arts, in order to develop the most efficient technique.
Compared to the beginnings of this sport, which was violent and not organized, MMA today is practiced in
a more "human" way, with strict rules.
These rules have been set in order to valorize the show: - Division in several weight categories - Use of
gloves - Use of mouth and genital protections - Interdiction to give elbow kicks in many circumstances The
MMA is a great source of profit and an investment will provide a most guaranteed return. In fact, this sport
is known and popular all over the world. The best athletes compete in very important events such as: Pride
in Japan, UFC in the USA or Cage Rage in England. In Europe, the numbers of people practicing MMA is
increasing quickly, which also facilitates the rise of new European stars.
