Retrofit kit - Sports brakes
Installation time
The installation time of approx. 3.5 hours may vary depending on the vehicle's condition and equipment.
The vehicle must be updated to the latest I-level status by flashing before installing the retrofit. Different programming times are necessary depending on the production age of the vehicle and the work already performed
on the vehicle so that no time requirements can be specified here. The installation time does not include the time
required for programming/encoding which depends on the vehicle's age and equipment.
Important information
These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by
authorised BMW service companies.
In any event, the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with
the appropriate specialist knowledge.
All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manuals and work
instructions, in a rational order, using the specified tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety
regulations.
In the event of installation or functional problems, limit troubleshooting to 0.5 hours for mechanical
jobs and 1.0 hours for electrical jobs.
To avoid unnecessary work and costs, send a corresponding enquiry via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP)
using the technical parts support application.
Please quote the following:
- Vehicle identification number
- Part number of retrofit kit
- Exact description of the problem
- Work already carried out.
Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are made by ASAP!

Installation information
The installation instructions describe the procedure on the right-hand side of the vehicle only. The same
procedure should be followed analogously on the left-hand side of the vehicle.
After installation, the brake system must be bled in accordance with TIS No. 34 00 048.

3. Installing front sports brake
Fit pedal support (1) in position and lightly depress brake
pedal (2).
This prevents brake fluid escaping from the reservoir when
the brake lines are opened and air entering the brake
system.

Lever retaining spring (1) out of brake calliper.
Disconnect the plug connection for the brake pad wear
sensor.

Remove the plastic plug over the screws (1).
Remove screws (1), pull back brake calliper and remove.

Undo screw (1) and remove brake disc (2).
Screw (1) is no longer required.
Do not knock against the friction rim with a hammer or
similar tool to release the brake disc (2). If necessary,
carefully tap with a rubber-headed hammer against the base
of the bowl of the brake disc.

Now remove the installed brake calliper mounting
bracket (3) and replace by brake calliper mounting
bracket E.

The brake discs A are balanced. On no account remove
or displace the balance clips (1).

Before installing the brake disc, thoroughly clean the
mounting surface on the wheel hub and remove any
traces of corrosion if necessary.
Irregularities on the mounting surface may cause the brake
disc A to distort.

The brake discs A direction-coded. The odd part number
denotes the left-hand brake disc and the even part number
the right-hand brake disc.
Fit brake disc A and tighten screw F to the torque specified
in TIS No. 34 11 220.

Before installing the front brake pads B and C, clean the
mounting surfaces (1) and (2) of the brake calliper D and
coat with copper paste.

Clean mounting surface (1) of brake calliper D and apply a
thin film of copper paste.

Clean brake calliper mounting bracket E at the hammerhead guides and coat with a thin film of copper paste.

First install the inner brake pad B in brake calliper D. Then fit
the outer brake pad C.

Only clean screws (1), do not grease.

Fit brake calliper D in position. Tighten screws (1) according
to TIS No. 34 11 000.
Fit plastic plugs on to the screws.

Reconnect the plug connection for the brake pad wear

Snap in retaining spring (1).

4. Installing rear sports brake

and remove.

Undo screw (1) and remove brake disc (2).

Screw (1) is no longer required.
Do not knock against the friction rim with a hammer or
similar tool to release the brake disc (2). If necessary,
carefully tap with a rubber-headed hammer against the base

Now remove the installed brake calliper mounting
bracket (3) and replace by brake calliper mounting
bracket K.

4. Installing rear sports brake

Before installing the brake disc, thoroughly clean the
mounting surface on the wheel hub and remove any
traces of corrosion if necessary.
Fit brake disc G and tighten screw L to the torque specified
in TIS No. 34 21 320.

Before installing the rear brake pads H and I, clean the
mounting surfaces (1) and (2) of the brake calliper J and
coat with copper paste.

Clean mounting surface (1) of brake calliper J and apply a
thin film of copper paste.

Clean brake calliper mounting bracket K at the hammerhead guides and coat with a thin film of copper paste.

4. Installing rear sports brake
First install the inner brake pad H in brake calliper J. Then fit
the outer brake pad I.

Fit brake calliper J in position and snap in retaining
spring (1).

Only clean screws (1), do not grease.
Tighten screws (1) to the torque specified in
TIS No. 34 21 200.
Fit the plastic plugs onto the screws and reconnect the plug
connection for the brake pad wear sensor.

5. Concluding work and coding
The retrofit system requires encoding.
– Reconnect vehicle battery
– Encode retrofit with software service station (SSS) via the path - Retrofit – Perform quick test
– Reassemble vehicle in reverse order of removal
After installation, the brake system must be bled in accordance with TIS No. 34 00 048.
