Wildcat Trail (Monument Valley, UT)

Transportation:
1.
Transportation will NOT be provided by the Diabetes
Prevention Program (DPP). Participants must drive
their own vehicles.
2. Limited parking available. Carpooling is strongly
recommended.
Hiking Wildcat Trail: “The only official maintained path is the 3.2 mile Wildcat Trail, a fairly level route that loops around the West Mitten Butte and allows inspection of this rock from all angles with surrounding landscapes all along the one to two hour journey. The path lies within the Navajo Tribal Park. Though only few people make the journey, the hike enables a quiet company of an unusual variety of different species of lizards. Be cautious, desert wildlife inhabits the area.” –Monument Valley Tribal Park Hiking Details:

How to Prepare for Hike:

Always get a good nights’ rest before the hike.
ALWAYS BRING ENOUGH WATER with you
on a hike.
Wear comfortable light/layered clothing. Watch
weather forecast & dress accordingly.
Remember that we are trying to keep the earth clean,
so please bring a plastic bag with you to take all the
trash you bring in.

v Durable hiking shoes or walking shoes w/ good
traction
v Light lunch & snacks (i.e. Granola bar, trail mix, etc.)
v Sun-block & Hat *STRONGLY

v Bug-Repellent Spray (optional)

Driving directions from Tuba City to Monument Valley,
UT (Above Picture) **100.15 miles/ 1 hour 44 minutes**
*Recommended time to leave Tuba City – no later than 6
am.
1. Head SOUTH on Main St/Indian Rte-101 toward Navajo
Blvd.
2. Take the 1st LEFT onto US-160 E/Navajo Trl. Continue to
follow US-160E.
3. Turn LEFT onto Main St/US-163 N. Continue to follow
US-163 N (Crossing into Utah).
4. Turn RIGHT onto Monument Valley Rd (Crossing into
Arizona).
5. Continue straight to Visitor Center parking lot.

MEETING POINT & EQUIPMENT CHECK:
Participants must make sure they are all adequately
hydrated.
If any participants take medication, they must take it
as prescribed.
Participants must inform DPP staff member of any
medical situation immediately.
There shall be safety monitors adequately throughout
the line of hikers.
Safety monitors shall carry a first-aid kit.
If any participant needs to stop a hike, or return to the
main area, a safety monitor shall escort the
participant to the starting point.

We will meet in the parking lot of the Visitor
Center at Monument Valley @7:30am. (Picture
Below).
We will conduct bag checks to see if adequate
amount of water and supplies are packed.
Park Fee Admission:
v Native Americans: No Fee Required.
v Non-Natives: Fee is $5 per person.

There is a restaurant available if you choose to
have lunch there as well (Menu Pictured Below).
**Kids in good shape can make this hike with adult
experience and supervision.
**All hikes are one-day hikes. Registration is required for all
participants. Registration forms and information packets will be
provided at the Health Promotion/Diabetes Prevention Program
Department from 8a-5p. Transportation will not be provided by
the Diabetes Prevention Program, participants must drive in
