7-Mile AFT Hike

New for 2015 is the 7-Mile Hike!
WHERE: The hike will take place on scenic sections of the Allegheny Front &
Moss Hanne Trails. Hikers will carpool from the terminal building of the MidState Regional Airport to the start. The hike start is at the “Wolf Rocks Runner
Aid Station” on Six-Mile Run Road. See the map at http://midstateairport.com/events/AFT_Run.php.
DESCRIPTION: Participants should have prior trail hiking experience of at least 3 or 4 miles prior attempting this 7-mile
trek. This is a point-to-point hike (car shuttle necessary). Completion should take about 3 hours, based on a 20-minuteper-mile pace. The course has two moderately difficult climbs in the first three miles. The last four miles are basically
level. (Course maps provided at registration.)
SCHEDULE:
Registration: 8:00AM-8:50AM. Registration for the hike opens at 8:00 a.m. in the terminal building of the Mid-State
Regional Airport. All hikers must complete a registration form.
Shuttle Departure from Airport: 9:00AM. Registered hikers will carpool to the hike starting point. We encourage you to
carpool due to limited parking at the hike start. (Driving distance from airport to start of hike is 5 miles.)
Hike Start: 9:30AM. Carpooling vehicles will leave the airport at 9:00 a.m. to transport registered hikers to the starting
point. The hike is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
Approximate Finish Times: 12:30PM-1:00PM.

There is a staffed check point/ aid station at Mile 4.75.
(IMPORTANT: Please give your name to the attendant at this
check point.)
Hike with a partner or with a group.
Hikers yield to runners in competition.
Terrain: Moderate to difficult due to some gradual climbs.
Trails are well marked with standard yellow triangle blazes.
Intersections have directional signs.
Wear appropriate footwear (trail may be wet in places). Take
along insect repellent, whistle, hiking stick, band aids, any necessary allergy or bee string supplies, water and
snacks, map.
YOUR HIKE SUPPORTS DEDICATED TRAIL MAINTENANCE:
Part of the event proceeds are donated to Keystones Trails Association. KTA is a federation of membership organizations
and individuals dedicated to providing, preserving, protecting and promoting recreational hiking trails and hiking
opportunities in Pennsylvania. KTA also represents and advocates for the interests and concerns of the Pennsylvania
hiking community.

1.55 Park shuttle cars at the former “Dayton Dam.” A
parking area is located there, which is only about
2/10 mile from start of hike.
Hike begins with a good climb out of Six Mile Run
where you will pass the impressive and interesting
Wolf Rocks.
