Our commitment to the community
O
ur people firmly believe that education is the most important endeavor
of any community. We are, therefore, proud of the active role Bermúdez,
Longo, Díaz-Massó, LLC plays in support of education at various levels.
Our longstanding commitment to support the Juan Antonio Corretjer
elementary school in Cupey is particularly rewarding. The hands-on
involvement of our employees in maintaining and improving the school’s physical

Company Profile
uerto Rico was on the threshold
of its urban and industrial boom
when Juan J. Bermúdez and
Adriel Longo, two young electrical
engineers, first set out on their
own to establish an electrical contracting
company.
The year was 1962, and everywhere you
looked new construction was going up
as Puerto Rico was becoming a modern
industrialized society. Hard work and a vision
of what was possible for the development
of Puerto Rico inspired Bermúdez and Longo
to grow and prosper as the island grew and
prospered.
The 1970s saw the company become
one of the leading specialty construction
operations on the island. As the demands
of industrialization became increasingly
complex, relying more on new technologies,
in the 1980s, the company established a
highly specialized mechanical division to
complement its electrical construction
expertise, making it the leading
electromechanical contractor on the island.
By 2007, Bermúdez & Longo S.E. was ready

President’s Message
Meeting the challenges for constant
growth in the new generation
1970s
2010s
The combination of electrical and
mechanical engineering disciplines
under one roof opened the door
for greater service to our clients
in a variety of areas. We were
instrumental in the construction
of the Cambalache Powerplant;
various hotel projects such as the
Ritz-Carlton San Juan; Westin Río
Mar; Wyndham in Old San Juan;
and El Conquistador Resort; as well
as correctional and judicial centers
around the island and other public
works.
The turn of the century
saw even greater demand for
quality electromechanical
engineering at the lowestpossible cost that also met
the highest environmental
standards. We delivered on
all those requirements for the
Puerto Rico Convention Center
and its district’s Sheraton
Hotel; the renovation of La Concha Hotel; the Urban
Train’s Río Piedras station and
other public utility projects.
Bermúdez, Longo, DíazMassó, LLC continues to make
a valuable contribution to the
developmental integrity and
environmental quality of Puerto
Rico. Our well-established
“green” philosophy was the
driving force behind our work
on, among other projects, the
St. Regis Bahía Beach Resort,
the 20-megawatt (MW) AES
Ilumina Solar Farm and the
75MW Santa Isabel Wind Farm.
Timeline
Bermúdez and Longo
started operations just
as Puerto Rico began to
urbanize. The new electricalcontracting company made
its mark as a quality service
provider with community
development projects such as
Venus Gardens, Bonneville,
Jardines de Caguas and
Urbanización Monte Carlo.
Vertical construction began to
dot the island and the demand
for infrastructure grew rapidly.
We anticipated and satisfied
those needs by delivering the
best available technology for
such projects as the Minillas
Tunnel, El Comandante
Racetrack, Cobián’s Plaza
office building, Isleta Marina
condominium and the expansion
of Plaza Las Américas.
The diverse needs of
a growing metroplex
challenged our engineers to
meet increasingly complex
demands. We spearheaded
the construction of the San
Juan Capestrano Hospital;
Los Paseos Urbanization; the
remodeling of El San Juan
Resort & Casino; the Economic
Development & Commerce
Department, or Fomento
building; and high-tech
manufacturing plants around
the island.

Bermúdez, Longo, Díaz-Massó:
A lean, green engineering machine
T
he dedicated engineers and skilled technicians
of Bermúdez, Longo, Díaz-Massó, LLC can point
with pride at their accomplishments around the
island. Over the last 50 years that well-trained
and experienced team has achieved many milestones in
development.
Perhaps none is more important than the 350-foot high wind
powered facility built in Santa Isabel for Mastec Puerto Rico, which
generates 75 megawatts of renewable
energy. Similarly, our engineers and craft
personnel installed the new Ilumina Solar
Farm in Guayama, consisting of 100,000
solar panels that generate electricity for
8,000 homes in the area.
Such projects are particularly significant
to Puerto Rico’s future because they
contribute to achieving the goal of
producing at least 12 percent of the island’s electric
energy requirements from renewable sources by
2015.
The expertise of our people is also making its mark
in building energy efficient and environmentally clean facilities for the private
sector. Our team delivered the first LEED-certified hotel on the island, the
Sheraton at the San Juan Convention District. Other tourist facilities that carry
our stamp of excellence include the St. Regis at Bahía Beach and the RitzCarlton Reserve at Dorado Beach.
Furthermore, our teams continue to meet the demands of high technology
production plants on the island, which produce pharmaceuticals and other
products that require strict quality control. Ours is a shared vision that seeks to
provide integrated electrical and mechanical services that strive for the highest
standards of safety, value and integrity.
A
Setting the bar for excellence higher
I
f the past is prologue to the future, then we as a company and
Puerto Rico as a society can look forward to a very bright future.
The infrastructure for that future is well-established and in
place. Its foundation is the deep pool of talented engineers
and technicians who have built our modern society—the roads,
utilities, homes, public facilities, commercial establishments and
industrial complexes that have propelled us, as a people, into the 21st
century.
The accomplishments of those skilled minds and hands are wellknown, admired and emulated around the world. The School of
Engineering of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez was the first
incubator for that talent. The school continues to inspire young people
to search for better ways to use the latest technology and build the
things that move people forward in a sustainable manner. Today, along
with other institutions of higher education, private-sector partnerships
are sprouting to take advantage of the opportunities for future
development, guided by a rational approach to conserve and protect
our finite resources.
As a company, we are privileged to be an integral part of that
tapestry of progress. Over the years, our engineers and technicians
have participated in building the most advanced production complexes
for every pharmaceutical company operating on the island, as well
as other high technology operations. Likewise, based on renewable
sources of energy, we are building the supporting infrastructure that
will make our society perform at peak efficiency, with the lowest
possible cost.
Looking forward, such innovation will keep Bermúdez, Longo, DíazMassó, its people and the communities we serve at the forefront of
progress, always seeking to lift the bar of excellence higher.
Renewable energy
thirst for innovation in everything we do, and concern for the
environment, prompted Bermúdez, Longo, Díaz-Massó LLC to invest
more than $1 million in a leading-edge renewable energy system at its
sprawling headquarters in Cupey sector of San Juan.
Designed by the company’s own engineers, and
constructed within 90 days, the system consists of photovoltaic
panels controlled by a special computer array that maximizes
output. The system has the capacity to generate 113 kilowatts.
That solar energy project stands as an example of what our
skilled people can achieve for the benefit of our clients and the
greater good of the community. Our commitment to constructing
quality energy alternatives for our clients led to the installation
of solar energy panels at the retail outlets of Wal-Mart and
Sam’s Club on the island.
We continue to be actively engaged in exploring the most efficient and
cost-effective ways of using finite resources to protect the environment and
benefit our clients. The company is partnering on the development of other
solar- and wind-powered projects.
Similarly, our Green Energy Division is actively involved in the planning and
development of biofuel processing facilities, where plants and other natural
materials are converted into fuel. The company is also participating in the
gasification of refuse, or turning trash into gas for energy.
Our company has turned green from the bottom up. For example, most
of our rolling-stock fleet runs primarily on propane gas instead of gasoline,
and we recycle as much construction material as possible to protect the
environment and serve the community.
A look forward
our engineers
