Spartanburg Area CHAMBER FOCUS Ford & Harrison Team Take Home the Thompson Cup T he 2011 Chamber Golf Outing was held on Monday, June 6 at Carolina Country Club. 104 golfers participated in the event on a beautiful “Chamber of Commerce” day. The greens were absolutely pristine after the recent BMW Pro-Am and in spite of the heat, everyone had a great time. The team of Ford & Harrison including Clay Keim, Jeffrey Lehrer, Brian Bishop and Darren Gravely took home the Thompson Cup Trophy at First Place. Darren Gravely also made a hole in one on the par 3 #12. Second Place honors went to Team Budweiser including Bill Schuler, Buddy Millwood, John Bauknight and Kevin Moore. Third Place winners were Todd Horne & Harry Clayton of Clayton Construction, Katherine Fulmer, Young Office and John Price, SM&E. There will be a sizable number of returning veterans from the USS Cowpens of World War II, who named the small aircraft carrier the” Mighty Moo.” There will also be several members of the crew of the new USS Cowpens which is stationed in Japan. This promises to be an exciting time for both young and old, and many activities have been planned for the visitors to the area. Events include: Wednesday Night--Gospel Sing at First Baptist Church in Cowpens Thursday-Carnival rides at the Train Depot and a Miss Cowpens Beauty Pageant at Cowpens Elementary Friday- The day’s events begin with a softball game between the Mighty Moo crew and local Little League players. There will be a charity golf tournament at Woodfin Ridge Golf Club (all proceeds going to fund a scholarship for a Broome High School student), NASA Exhibit: Driven to Explore (DTE) Mobile along with entertainment and Mini-Trailer Exhibit carnival rides at the train depot Friday evening. The exhibit will be set up at the back parking lot of Central Baptist Saturday- Children’s parade begins at 9:15am, with the Large Church at the train tracks just Mighty Moo parade beginning at across from Veterans Park. 10:00am.
