ZANY UMBRELLA CIRCUS: MY GRANDFATHER’S CIRCUS Tue, Aug 11 • 10:30am • $5 Tue, Jul 21 • 10:30am • $5 “My grandfather grew up in 1930’s in Woonsocket South Dakota during the dust bowl. This show is based on his stories and how he created circus in a place where whimsy seemed unexpected. Everyday objects come to life, and a circus is created out of an unlikely situation.” Mama Mac was inspired by Amy Elkins’ volunteer role as the singing “Macaroni Monday Mom” at her children’s preschool. Amy would cook pasta and deliver it to each class along with a performance of a new song. Soon Amy built up a repertoire of songs and cut her first CD as Mama Mac. Amy’s husband, Mike Elkins, sings back up and plays percussion; Sam Goldstein plays mandolin; and Steve Hurlock plays bass. With an eclectic style ranging from rock to country to reggae and more, Mama Mac’s interactive songs engage both children and parents. For more information visit www.mamamac.net. Zany Umbrella Circus exists to build and strengthen communities through education and folk artistry— particularly puppetry, circus, music, storytelling, street theatre and visual arts.
