IssueNo.4~June2015 From the Acting Principal, Paula Condell R S O Aswecometotheendofthe irstsemesterfor2015Iwouldliketotakethis opportunitytothankallofthecollegecommunityforthesupportshownin developingthedirectionofJohnFawknerCollege.Wehavemuchtocelebrateinour journeysofar.AsmentionedinapreviousnewsletterthisyeartheCollegehas continuedtomakesomesigni icantprogressinconsolidatingaculturewhich providesaprogressivelearningenvironmentforallstudents.Alloftheworkbeing undertakenisaimedatmakingJohnFawknerCollegethesecondaryschoolofchoice inthelocalarea.Thisobjectiveisstartingtoresinatewithlotsofpositivecomments beingforwardedbyeducationalexpertsandcommunitystakeholders.More importantlydatacollectedthroughsurveysandfocusgroupsclearlydemonstrate thatourstudentsseeJohnFawknerCollegeas,mindfuloftheirwelfareandeducation inprovidinganextremelypositivelearningenvironment. Themannerinwhichstudentshavecontinuedtoapplythemselvesinthecompulsory examinationsacrossallyearlevelsisalsoanindicationoftheeffortsandvalueweare placingonimprovingtheresultsofourseniorstudents.Thestudent’scodeofconduct hasalsobeenanareainwhichtheCollegeismakinghugestrides.Studentsarewell awareofexpectationsinrelationstouniform,behaviourandtherequiredworkethic. Allofthismakesaclearandunequivocalstatementabouttheimpactofthecultural change.Werecogniseandappreciateallthesupportwehavereceivedfromour Collegecommunityincontinuallystrengtheningthepositivecultureofhigh expectationsatJohnFawknerCollege. S C Acourteousremindertobothstudentsandparents,thattheschoolcrossingwhichis nowfullyoperational,istobeutilizedwhencrossingJukesRoad.Parkingandspeed restrictionsapplyinthisarea.Allstudentsareexpectedtousethecrossingwhenthe lagsareshownatthestartandendoftheschoolday.Therewillalsobe150meter parkingexclusionzonesfromthecrossing.Parentsareaskedtousethecommunity carparksoastominimisecongestiononJukesroad.TheMorelandCouncilhas informedthecollegethatparkingof icerswillbedeployedtoissueinfringement notices. TheCollegehasaveryclearpolicyonstudentsleavingclassorschoolforreligious purposesduringnormalschoolhours.AsaGovernmentSecondaryCollege,John Fawknerisaseculareducationalinstitutionwhichrespectsthereligiousbeliefsofall itsstudents,howeverdoesnotprovidereligiousinstructionaspartofitscurriculum structure.ThisincludesleavingtheschoolgroundstoattendtheMosqueonFridays. Parentswillalwayshavetheoptiontocollecttheirchildfromthegeneralof iceand thenreturnthestudenttotheschool;howevernotespermittingstudentstoleavethe schoolgroundstoattendtheMosquewillnotbepermittedduetotheschool’sdutyof carerequirementsbeingcompromised.Theschoolwillprovide IMPORTANT DAYS aprayerroom,ifnecessary,atlunchtimeforanystudents wishingtoundertaketheirprayerrequirements. TheJohnFawknerCollegeSportsIndustry Pathwaysprogram(SIPP)isasportsthemed curriculumthatisdeliveredinpartnershipwith elitesportandisdesignedtodeliverpowerful outcomesinnumeracyandliteracyinacutting edgeway. Deliveredinthenewlyconstructedmultimillion dollar,stateoftheartJohnFawknerCollege GlobalLearningCentre,theJohnFawknerCollege SportsIndustryPathwaysprogram(SIPP)is taughtacrosskeylearningareassuchasEnglish, Mathematics,Science,Humanities,Media,Health andPhysicalEducationandtheArts. Itisaprogramthatuniquelytapsintostudent's passionforsportwhilstdeveloping21stcentury numeracy,literacy,employabilityandfurther educationskillscrucialtotheirfutureworkand studylife.
