Aswecometotheendofthe irstsemesterfor2015Iwouldliketotakethis
opportunitytothankallofthecollegecommunityforthesupportshownin
developingthedirectionofJohnFawknerCollege.Wehavemuchtocelebrateinour
journeysofar.AsmentionedinapreviousnewsletterthisyeartheCollegehas
continuedtomakesomesigni icantprogressinconsolidatingaculturewhich
providesaprogressivelearningenvironmentforallstudents.Alloftheworkbeing
undertakenisaimedatmakingJohnFawknerCollegethesecondaryschoolofchoice
inthelocalarea.Thisobjectiveisstartingtoresinatewithlotsofpositivecomments
beingforwardedbyeducationalexpertsandcommunitystakeholders.More
importantlydatacollectedthroughsurveysandfocusgroupsclearlydemonstrate
thatourstudentsseeJohnFawknerCollegeas,mindfuloftheirwelfareandeducation
inprovidinganextremelypositivelearningenvironment.
Themannerinwhichstudentshavecontinuedtoapplythemselvesinthecompulsory
examinationsacrossallyearlevelsisalsoanindicationoftheeffortsandvalueweare
placingonimprovingtheresultsofourseniorstudents.Thestudent’scodeofconduct
hasalsobeenanareainwhichtheCollegeismakinghugestrides.Studentsarewell
awareofexpectationsinrelationstouniform,behaviourandtherequiredworkethic.
Allofthismakesaclearandunequivocalstatementabouttheimpactofthecultural
change.Werecogniseandappreciateallthesupportwehavereceivedfromour
Collegecommunityincontinuallystrengtheningthepositivecultureofhigh
expectationsatJohnFawknerCollege.

Acourteousremindertobothstudentsandparents,thattheschoolcrossingwhichis
nowfullyoperational,istobeutilizedwhencrossingJukesRoad.Parkingandspeed
restrictionsapplyinthisarea.Allstudentsareexpectedtousethecrossingwhenthe
lagsareshownatthestartandendoftheschoolday.Therewillalsobe150meter
parkingexclusionzonesfromthecrossing.Parentsareaskedtousethecommunity
carparksoastominimisecongestiononJukesroad.TheMorelandCouncilhas
informedthecollegethatparkingof icerswillbedeployedtoissueinfringement
notices.

TheCollegehasaveryclearpolicyonstudentsleavingclassorschoolforreligious
purposesduringnormalschoolhours.AsaGovernmentSecondaryCollege,John
Fawknerisaseculareducationalinstitutionwhichrespectsthereligiousbeliefsofall
itsstudents,howeverdoesnotprovidereligiousinstructionaspartofitscurriculum
structure.ThisincludesleavingtheschoolgroundstoattendtheMosqueonFridays.
Parentswillalwayshavetheoptiontocollecttheirchildfromthegeneralof iceand
thenreturnthestudenttotheschool;howevernotespermittingstudentstoleavethe
schoolgroundstoattendtheMosquewillnotbepermittedduetotheschool’sdutyof
carerequirementsbeingcompromised.Theschoolwillprovide

aprayerroom,ifnecessary,atlunchtimeforanystudents
wishingtoundertaketheirprayerrequirements.

whomayhavenotreturnedtheirsecondary
schoolpreferenceEnrolmentFormareaskedto

schools.Parents,whoarealsoawareofany
familieswishingtoplacetheirchildrenatJohn
FawknerCollegefor2016,pleaseadvisethemto

TheCollegehashadanumberofenquiriesfrom
familieswishingtoenroltheirchildrenintothe
SportsacademyPrograms(Soccer,Netball,
Rugbyacademyin2016).Itisimportanttonote
thattheSportsacademiesarepartoftheschool’s
educationalprogramandthatstudentswho
attendanotherschoolcannotenrolinthe

In2016JohnFawknerCollegeisagainoffering
onanewandinnovativecomponenttoitssenior
curriculumthatisdesignedtoengageandexcite
studentswithaninterestinsportintheir
learning.
TheJohnFawknerCollegeSportsIndustry
Pathwaysprogram(SIPP)isasportsthemed
curriculumthatisdeliveredinpartnershipwith
elitesportandisdesignedtodeliverpowerful
outcomesinnumeracyandliteracyinacutting
edgeway.
Deliveredinthenewlyconstructedmultimillion
dollar,stateoftheartJohnFawknerCollege
GlobalLearningCentre,theJohnFawknerCollege
SportsIndustryPathwaysprogram(SIPP)is
taughtacrosskeylearningareassuchasEnglish,
Mathematics,Science,Humanities,Media,Health
andPhysicalEducationandtheArts.
Itisaprogramthatuniquelytapsintostudent's
passionforsportwhilstdeveloping21stcentury
numeracy,literacy,employabilityandfurther
educationskillscrucialtotheirfutureworkand
studylife.
Opportunitiestoworkwithelitesportand
interactwithitinapractical,'realtime'way,the
prominentuseofmediaandsocialmediain
learningandthe lexibletimetabletocaterfor
studentsregularoffcampusworkformsthe
centrepieceofthisprogram'steachingand
learningbene its.Criticaltothesuccessofthe
programarethepartnershipsthecollegehas
forgedwithelitesportandtertiaryeducationin
deliveringtheprogram.A-LeagueclubMelbourne
City,Super14club,MelbourneRebelsandLa
TrobeUniversityarejustthreesportingand
furthereducationinstitutionswhohaveagreedto

bigsecondtermwithallagegroupsparticipating
inthemorelanddistrictchampionships.With
moresuccessthanheartbreak,anddevelopment
attheforefront,JFCandMCcoachingstaffhave
beenextremelyproudofthecommitment,effort,
applicationand
professionalismwithinallcompetitions.

Ourgirlshavehadplentygoingoninterm2,
participatinginjunior,intermediateandsenior
soccer.
TheseniorshadahugewinagainstPascoeVale
GirlswhoplayedatCBSmithReserve.16-1was
theendscore,withanumberofstandout
performers,namelyyear10MiaKillick.
Ourintermediategirlsplayedreallywellallday
andmadeitintothe inalroundwithhuge
resultsagainstAIAandIlimscoring24goalsin
justtwomatches.Itcametothe inalmatch
againagainstPascoeVale,whichlookedtobea
toughtask.Despitebeing5-3upwithGiuliana
Ourbigsuccessstorycameintheformofouryear
7-8team.Withplayers illinginfromoutsideof
theprogram,itwasgoingtobetoughtocompete
againstbigschoolslikeCoburgandPascoeVale
again.Itdidn'tseemtodeterourgirls,againbeing
undefeatedfortheday.AlanaCernewasbrilliant,
slottinggoalsineachgameandwassupported
wellbyMiaBertola.AlyssaKaddourstoodtallin
goalswhilstSabrinaKaddour,TasnimHasanand
YasmineAyachewerestrongallday.The inal
gamedecidedthetie,withabrilliantMiaBertola
hattrickbeingthedifferencebetweenJFCand
PVGC.
Welldonetoallgirls,ifthereareanyextragirls
interestedinjoiningtheprogramtheymustsee
MrMcDowellassoonaspossible.
IntermediateBoys
TheIntermediateboysAteamexperiencesuccess
atthedistrictlevel,becomingdivisionchampions
afteralongday.Ahardfought2-0victoryagainst
GlenroyCollegewasagoodwaytostarttheday,
butitdidn'tcomewithoutstress.JFCfoundit
hardtobreakthedeadlock,drawingequalatthe
break.ButCameronMarkiefoundawayinthe
secondhalfwithafadeawayshotthatfoundits
wayintothetopcorner.Afteranervousfew

closecrashingintothebarandgoingincheswide.
Agooddefensiveeffortandaclutchsaveinthe

TheotherschoolsthatparticipatedwerePascoeValeGirlsSecondaryCollege,IlimCollegeandGlenroy
SecondaryCollege.Eachschoolhad4gameswith12minutehalvesineach.ThecoacheswereMissPapas
andNikkitaandthegirlsthatplayedwereNaura,Marietta,Yasmine,Angela,Hailey,Litiane,Rayan,Ghada
andKiara.WehadawinagainstIlimCollegewiththescores11-4.Allthegirlshadagreatday,werevery
enthusiasticandputinagreateffort.
