A Place to Learn, Share & Be Creative
Scoreboard Scarf KAL/CAL...
Our Scoreboard Scarves have become quite the talk around
town. It’s not too late to get started making one. Just come
purchase Cascade 220 superwash yarn in Orange, White and
Grey. For every point that UT scores, knit or crochet a row in
orange. For every point that our opponent scores, knit or
crochet a row in white. You can even add a row of grey to separate out the quarters and
two rows of grey to mark the end of a game if you choose. What a fun way to make a
scarf that you can wear with pride. When the season is over, everyone who makes a
Scoreboard Scarf will be entered into a drawing for a prize!! Just email us a picture
or come by and let us take a picture of your scarf when you finish. Everyone is doing
something a little different, so it will be interesting to see how they all look.
Fall Weekend Crawl...
For those who went on our East TN Yarn Crawl back in June, we’ve
added an extra bonus for you this year. Go to any or all of the
participating shops on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17,
bring your yarn crawl bag or your informational booklet from the yarn
crawl and you will get 10% off select items. Each shop will have
different specials for you and you’ll get to see all of the new fall yarns
that the shops have brought in. The Yarn Haven will be having a
Malabrigo Trunk Show as well as giving 10% off all regularly priced
items (with just a few exception. We’ll also have a drawing for a door
prize from Berroco Yarns. Fall in East TN is gorgeous and this should make for a nice road
trip.
The Yarn Haven’s Annual Retreat...
It won’t be long until our annual retreat will be here. We are working
hard on all the details, but be saving up your money. Our retreat will
include 2 nights lodging, a fabulous workshop, 5 home-cooked meals,
door prizes, pillow gifts, time for knitting, crocheting, weaving or
spinning and lots of fun and laughter. Space will be limited so once
we give out the details, sign up ASAP!!
Stitch Together Times...Come and work together on your projects with other crafters.
Our Stitch Together times are on Monday afternoons (1-3 pm) and Thursday evenings (6-8
pm). We no longer meet on Wednesday afternoons.
Fiber Friends...
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. So our Charity project for this month will be
making breast prosthesis for breast cancer patients. There is a great pattern on the charity
project page of our website. Please use the softest, non-wool, machine-washable DK yarn
that you can afford. We need ALL sizes (A, B, C, D & DD). Make one or a pair and help us
give back to the women in our community who have dealt with breast cancer.
November—December charity project involves making Hats for Kids in
memory of David Ray, Melissa’s sweet little angel. We give them to local schools that
have a high rate of kids living below the poverty level. We will need several hundred
hats...especially this yea as we are predicted to have a cold winter. Hats will be 19-20”
around and 7-8” high in order to properly fit. With worsted weight yarn, cast on 96 sts
if knitting. With DK yarn, cast on 104 sts. Hats must be turned in by Saturday,
December 12. Won’t you help us by making a couple of hats to bless a child or two this Christmas.
Need a Bag Lining?
We all love to knit or crochet bags. But many times the bags would be nicer with a lining. Kelora is an
excellent tailor and would love to put a lining in your bags. Just bring by your bag for her and she will
contact you with the cost of adding a lining to your creation.
Blocking and Felting?
Many times we have heard folks say that they can’t felt their project because they have a front-loading
washer. Or they know their garment should be blocked, but they are scared to do it. Blocking will smooth
out any wrinkles, stretch garment out to the correct size, relax the stitches so they are all more uniform
and make the garment look and fit better. We can provide these services for you. Just bring your
projects to us for felting or blocking. Cost is $10 per item. (If there are several items for the same
project that need blocking, cost will be a total of $15.)
Weekly Classes...
We have Weekly Classes mornings, afternoons, and the evenings we are open. Mimi’s classes are for
