Play For a Cause--Shoot For the Cure
Our girls' basketball team and the CHS basketball coaches
teamed up to raise funds for our very own Coach Mike
Wallace who is fighting pancreatic cancer. With homemade
pies, cakes, cookies, a raffle for an ipad and generous
donations that raised over $3,500.00 to help assist in the fight
against this disease. We want to thank everyone for their
support in helping Coach Wallace and shooting for a cure.

New Assistant Principal
Takes Over Hodges Duties
Everyone greatly misses our very respected
assistant principal, Casey Hodges. We enjoyed
his time with us here at CHS. We know that life
sometimes calls us in a different direction and we
certainly wish Mr. Hodges and his family all the
best life has to offer.
We welcome Ronnie Wilson, who has filled
Hodges shoes to become our new assistant
principal. He is doing a great job getting
acquainted with all of the students and becoming
a member of our great "Wildcat" family. We look
forward to Coach Wilson being an integral part of
CHS and helping us to "Stay the Course" in
moving from "Good to GREAT!"

Social Networking & Electronic Devices
Almost everyone in modern society is familiar with
Facebook along with the growing popularity of other sites such as
Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, etc. It is a great way to easily connect with
people that live thousands of miles away, which can be extra helpful if
those people are family or old friends, making the world a much smaller
place. So I'm not being hypocritical in this discussion about social
networking and electronical devices, I will say that I am one of the worst
about being stuck to my phone on Instagram and I believe that it's a major
flaw. If I added up all of the hours I've ever spent on my phone, the amount
would be unbelieveable... So do me a favor and save yourself. The main
problem that I've seen over the years is the over-use of these websites and
the content of what users post. You may walk through the park and see a
mother on her Facebook "farm" (and probably sending you one of those
dreaded game invites) instead of playing with her daughter. You could also
be getting coffee at Starbucks and see ten to fifteen people crowded into a
small lounge area, all on their laptops. Billions of people are addicted to
these social networking sites, and for absolutly no contructive purpose,
which results in a large waste of time that could be used for something
productive. This doesn't mean that you should never use your devices
though, most colleges require you to apply online, you usually need an
active phone number for colleges to reach you at, and if you have a job a
phone is a necessity for scheduling purposes. It's okay to be active with
electronic devices, just not addicted.

Scholarships and Student Acceptance Letters
-by Sam Tallant
Many seniors have a lot on their plate. They have to pass classes, take tests and try to get into desired colleges, all while
juggling jobs or chores. For some seniors they can do this very well, such as Kaylee Eldredge who has received over five
acceptance letters. Also, Casey Trevino and Madison Reed have been accepted to several colleges. Other students who have
received acceptance to various colleges include Maycy English, Kody Patterson, Luis Villalobos, Kimberly Scott, Shea Pratt,
Michelle Marter, Stevie Warren, Michel Templin, Renee Van Tassel, Shandace Sampson, Jordan Silverman and Kendra
Pringle. Scholarships are also a very important part of the college dream. For many people scholarships make college

Varsity
Boys'Basketball
-By Jake Parker
The varsity boys basketball finished the 2013-2014 season
with a 13-13 record, missing playoffs by only two games. No
one expected varsity basketball to do well being picked 8th
at the beginning of the season. We exceeded expectations
by finishing 5th. Offensive contributors were led by Mason
Langthorn and Jacob King, with defensive contributions
coming from Hunter Olson and Trey Thurman. All of the
Wildcats saw action and proved that next season will surely
be very successful. Congratulations to Coach Marmon who
finished as a finalist for Coach of the Year!
Top Row: Coach Drinning, Coach Marmon, Jacob King, Hunter Olson, Ty Uselton, Gage

Bottom Row: Trey Thurman, Isaac Andrews, Mason Langthorn, Luis Villalobos and Eli

JV Boys BB
-by Jake Parker
The Callisburg JV had a positive year finishing
8-6 in district and 13-12 overall. The team was
led by Coach Josh Drinning through a year of
overcoming obstacles and coming together as a
team. Coach Drinning said, "Everyone had a
role and there were no key players, everyone
worked as a team and progressed dramatically
throughout the year." Great job, Wildcats, on a
great season!
Freshmen Boys BB
-by Levi Henry
The freshmen boys' basketball team finished strong
in district.Their season was very good. They are a
very improved group of basketball players and have
the potential to climb to the next level with their
many improved skills. The best game this year was
against S&S with Parker Huddleston dropping 26
points. Also, Christian Garcia did a great job at point
guard with his dribbling and passing expertise.

Varsity Girls' Basketball
-by Kacy Skaggs
I asked Breanna Serna, a
freshman on varsity, how she
thought the year went and she
said, "It was a great year and I
was so happy to be a part of the
team as a freshman and I'm
excited for next year's season."
This season wasn't a winning one
but more of a year of progress.
The girls made big steps and
helped build our basketball
program for the underclassmen.
"Thank you to our fans for your
never-ending support."
JV Girls Basketball
-by Kacy Skaggs
As the JV girls basketball season comes to an end,
the girls have finished their season really well.
Consisting of a fairly young team of mostly freshmen,
they have stepped up and made tremendous progress
and are going to contribute to the program greatly in
the following years. With two games going into
overtime and a buzzer ringer from Crislyn Holman,
they have definitely made the point clear that they
never give up.
This year's leading scorers were Crislyn Holman,
Morgan Sconce, Eranne Medford and Kaylie Weaver.
While our leading defensive players were Brittany
Jones, Brycee Breeden, Crislyn Holman and Kaylie
Weaver. Crislyn Holman noted that "This season we
kept improving throughout the year and we got a lot
better." She also said, "Thanks for all the support from
the fans and the team is excited to see what we can
accomplish next season."

Social Media Matters
Solo and Ensemble
Students were wowed by an outstanding presentation
on February 18 on social media and how it affects their
lives. The assembly gave important information on how
students need to make wise decisions when it comes to
sharing messages and pictures, while also cautioning
about cyber bullying and various media matters.
FFA
-by Hannah Bauwin
-by Carlee Eldredge
Saturday, February 1st, members of the high school
band travelled to Sanger High School to compete in
the solo and ensemble contest. Percussion trio of Luis
Vasquez, Santos Gonzales, and Brennan Dugger
received a 1, Micheal Wagner received a 1 on a tuba
solo, and Bri Matherly received a 1 on a saxophone
solo. Carlee Eldredge on flute and Jonathan Van
Tassel on tuba got a division 2 on their solos, and
Jaycee Mandrell on clarinet received a division 3. We
are very proud of our Wildcats! Great job!
Stock shows have begun! Some students have travelled to Fort Worth
to show their livestock! Katelyn Ing placed 2nd in her class showing
her Chester White (swine), great job! Callisburg also recently held an
invitational show with swine and goats. Callisburg held a local show on
February 21st and it was very successful. Everyone plans on doing
great at county, beginning February 28th. Come out and support
Callisburg FFA! Good luck to all those who are showing animals!
We also want to remind you that it is national FFA week and we would
like to share a few facts with you. Texas is the number one FFA
membership state. 81 percent of kids who are in FFA go on to graduate
college with an agriscience degree. In 2012 the FFA gave out 15.6
million dollars in scholarships. More than 50,000 FFA jackets are made
each year. Females make up 47 percent of state leadership positions.
The national FFA began in 1928.
Culinary Arts
Recently our culinary
arts class competed
in the Cooke County
Fair. In the decorated
cake class Maddi
Ramsey won a blue ribbon and
reserve grand champion, followed by
Olivia Reyes and Victoria Roberts who
won red ribbons.

Our club recently
delivered handmade
valentine cards for
nursing home residents.
Also we have been busy
with a canned-food drive
for Visto which proved to
be very successfull.
Japan--America Enjoys Mochi
-by Amber Mathews
In January our Japan-America club travelled to Dallas to
attend the Mochi festival. Mochi is pounded rice that is
traditional food to the Japanese culture. There was a
demonstration on how to make mochi. Also, there were
booths including games, caligraphy of the year, oragami
and fortunes. When asked what she had learned at the
Mochi Festival Kassie Cooper said, "I learned the
traditional way to make mochi. It was the single most
delicious thing I have ever eaten." Mochi can be served
with either walnut, pecan, or sweet bean paste with
seaweed. Fifteen students and teachers attended the
event.

CES has had some amazing activities going on!
*Friday, December 13, 2013 Callisburg had a great
success! CES placed 1st in the U.I.L. district meet.
CES has won 1st place 27 of the past 31 years. The
5th grade Oral Reading team received 37 points and
took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Everyone worked so
hard and it paid off!
*On January 20, 2014 Mrs. Allen's 4th grade music
classes put on a program called "Holiday at the OK
Corral." The program included a villain named
Bubblegum Bart played by Brady Tischler who tried to
cover the town in Bubblegum Goo! The town looked
to the Candy Cane kid played by Luke Stokes to save
their town. The program was awesome!
*CES participated in a coat drive to send coats to
Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan to be given to
children there. Over 100 coats were brought by CES
students. The PTO and other donators gave a
donation to help with shipping costs to Afghanistan.
Thank you for an amazing job and all your support.

The White Stripes
Cinema Movie Review
The Lone Survivor
-By Christian Fleitman
In 1997, the American rock duo known as the White Stripes
formed in the state of Michigan. Jack and Meg White made up the
group. Their sound consisted of the garage rock and blues genres.
"White Blood Cells" and "Elephant" are included amongst their
list of six albums. "Seven Nation Army" is quite possibly their
most popular song. According to Third Man Records, which is
owned by Jack White, the band's accomplishments included their
appearances on various late night shows along with opening for
the Rolling Stones and the Pretty Things at a very young age.
Sadly, the White Stripes disbanded in the year of 2011.
"The Lone Survivor" is a movie based on a book; it is also
a true story about a Navy SEALS team of four, who are
dropped behind enemy lines to find a HVT (high value
target).
It's a great movie that starts off slow by telling you a bit of
information about each member, but quickly picks up when
the shooting begins. Discovering that all the events really
happened makes you feel remorseful, but proud of these
brave SEALS and their fight for safety. I give "Lone
Survivor" a 3/5 out of respect for the thrilling action that
happens, but the slow start made it hard to get into at first.
