The Bell Inn, historically an important stop on the Great North Road between
London and York, is one of the finest surviving examples of a 17th Century Coach
House in the country. Famous as the Birthplace of Stilton Cheese this popular Inn
lies at the heart of the village.
Legend has it that, whilst a fugitive, Dick Turpin the
Highwayman resided at the Bell Inn for nine weeks
before bursting from his bedroom window and on to the
back of Black Bess to gallop away up the Great North
Road when surprised by the law.
Today, the Bell Inn offers the same old-fashioned standards
of comfort and a good humoured, efficient service that
was the hallmark of all the famous coaching houses
in their 17th Century heyday. The historic setting will set
the seal for your special day.
More recently renovations completed in 1990 have
restored the Bell Inn to its former glory of days gone by.
Built around the old courtyard our reception facilities and
bedrooms have been skillfully blended into the ageless
stonework offering old world charm, relaxing comfort and
the most modern of facilities.
A friendly and warm welcome greets you from the moment
you step through our glass fronted archway in to the
beautiful historic surroundings. From your initial enquiry,
to the day itself, our highly dedicated team will guide
you through the months, weeks and days ahead of your
wedding to ensure your perfect day flows seamlessly.

Whether you’re enjoying every moment of your wedding day with us, from saying
“I do”, or simply choosing individual elements to suit your preference, you can rely
on us to provide a wealth of experience and professionalism ensuring that your
wedding day will be simply perfect.
Your Ceremony
As we have been granted the privilege of a Licence to hold
Civil Wedding Ceremonies and Civil Partnerships, we
would be delighted to help you plan your entire wedding
day. Once you have confirmed a date with the hotel

Marlborough Suite
Light and spacious, the perfect back drop for larger
celebrations with its own dance floor and bar. An ideal
setting for your civil ceremony, wedding breakfast and
evening reception. For smaller receptions, the room can
be partitioned to create a more intimate atmosphere.
Galleried Restaurant
Located on the first floor with exposed wooden beams
and candlelit fireplaces this wonderfully romantic setting
is perfect for more intimate ceremonies and wedding
receptions. If you should wish to continue with your
celebration, the Marlborough Suite can be hired for your
evening reception.
Bistro
Contemporary in design with its Marble floors, rustic
beams and warm décor this room creates a cosy
atmosphere for a more informal ceremony and wedding
reception.
Our Service
At the Bell Inn we are committed to providing an attentive yet unobtrusive level of
service to ensure your day is truly memorable. Every wedding is unique and we
pride ourselves on tailoring the wedding to give our couples the perfect day.
You will have the services of dedicated wedding
coordinators to help and guide you every step of the
way, from your initial enquiry, through the months leading
up to the day and on the wedding day itself. Regular
input regarding your wedding details is encouraged,
with a meeting at least 12 weeks prior to discuss final
requirements.

We can provide an extensive list of recommended
services, to help you plan your special day such as florists,
photographers, cake makers and evening entertainment.

All of our 22 bedrooms are decorated to the highest
standard reflecting the Inn’s traditional character and warm
welcome. You and your guests will be able to choose from
one of our many delightful rooms including Four Posters,
spacious deluxe doubles and rooms overlooking the
garden. All rooms are individually furnished, with en suite
bathrooms, broadband internet and tea & coffee making
facilities. We offer a special wedding tariff for wedding
guests wishing to stay in the hotel.
