Members were invited to drive their classic cars to the BBQ and put on a mini car show. Over 25 vehicles were on display. After the club members spent a few hours socializing and partaking of a terrific BBQ meal catered by ‘The Rib Shack’, president Roy Moosa kicked off the general meeting. Moosa provided a brief summary of the many club events and activities that had occurred during the past year. Club membership has also been on the rise and now boasts a total of 240 members. In particular, Moosa congratulated all those involved in producing the 50 th annual vintage car show held at the Pala Mesa Resort. He noted that it was the largest and most successful car show that the club has ever held since its inception 50 years ago. Elections were then held for executive board positions for the 2015-2016 year. A proposal to retain the existing board members for the new term was unanimously approved by the membership. The board members reelected were: Roy Moosa, President; Mike McGuire, Vice President; Wayne King, Secretary; Lee Johnson, Treasurer and John Waugh, Member At Large. At the conclusion of the general meeting, the Darwyn Lumley Members Only Car Show awards were made to those that brought their vintage cars. The car show is named after Lumley who is a noted author, automotive historian, and member of several antique car clubs. This year marked the 15th year these awards were given and they are very nonsensical vehicle classifications meant to be a lot of fun. The award winners of each classification were as follows: Page 4 Award categories and winner The car with the biggest trunk, or “The biggest bootie” Winner -Dick & Jo Ziemer’s 1959 Ford Skyliner convert The car they laughed at then…But cannot afford now Winner -John & Connie Waugh’s 1961 Nash Metropolitan convert John Waugh (L) presents “The most patriotic car award” to Chuck Oster for his 1968 Mustang The car with the smallest rear window Winner-Mike & Lee Johnson’s 1941 Dodge Pick-up The car with the most natural looking “Exposed Lug Nuts” (not painted, polished, plated, fancy, just plain nuts) Winner-Glen & Louise Patterson’s 1967 Plymouth CUDA convert The car most likely to be driven by “Dirty Harry” AKA, Clint Eastwood – “Make my Day” Winner-Ron & Bev Mintle’s 1971 Plymouth CUDA convert The Anti-Joan Rivers car, (All original paint, interior, not lifted, not full of putty) Winner-Gary & Kathy Hesser’s 1961 Nash Rambler Classic Station Wagon The Most Patriotic car Winner-Chuck & Joan Oster’s 1968 Ford Mustang The car you wished your Mom and Dad drove (in high school, so you could borrow it for a date) Winner-Ann & Wayne Yonce’s 1968 Buick Electra convert The winner of each classification received a much coveted Darwyn Lumley Members Car Show award plaque. This donation was given to the Boys and Girls Club to be used to cover an annual $30 membership fee for 20 needy youths in Fallbrook. It will allow these 20 children to participate in the clubs facilities that could otherwise be left at home alone and possibly unsupervised. CEO Allison Barclay said, “Our mission is to inspire all youths, especially those who need it the most, and hopefully will become caring, responsible and productive citizens.“ Presenting donation is (L) FVCC member, Bill LeMasters to Boys and Girls Club, CEO Allison Barclay with some very happy and appreciating children looking on. They are a nonprofit choral group, organized for the purpose of providing vocal music to Fallbrook and our surrounding communities. They participate in various community sponsored events such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day, 9/11 Tribute and many other area functions. The money will be used to help purchase music and instrumentation for a full orchestra that will become part of the chorale.
