Protecting Headingley's remaining green space
Local activist Joe Salmon made a deputation to Leeds City Council asking them to re-classify
the beautiful fields on Headingley Hill as
green space, as they have been incorrectly
designated as part of the main urban area,
leaving them at risk of development.
Joe Salmon said how the fields represent
the last bit of green space in Headingley
ward. He also explained how green space
plays a vital role in flood prevention and
should be protected as a valuable resource,
something the council is failing to do
without reclassifying the space.

Want to improve Leeds cycling routes?
#spaceforcycling needs you!
We all know bits of Leeds cycling infrastructure that could do with some improvement, and
there are also lots of maintenance problems like potholes and faded paint that need sorting.
Headingley Green Party have teamed up with Leeds Cycling
Campaign to try and gather this information. On 1st March
we'll be giving out vouchers for annual membership of
Pedallers Arms (http://pedallers-arms.org/) to three
randomly selected people who post details of potential
improvements or maintenance issues on Cyclescape.
Cyclescape is an online campaigning toolkit which assists
cycle campaign groups to keep track of issues and potential
improvements. You can visit the site online at
leeds.cyclescape.org and blog.cyclescape.org/guide/.
Any issues that you post in the Leeds area will be flagged to
the campaign and they can advise on how to get them
sorted. You could also tweet to @LeedsCyclists with the
#space4cycling hashtag for good measure!
The Pedallers Arms is a fantastic bicycle repair co-op where
you can come and learn how to repair your bike in a friendly
atmosphere. They run regular drop-in sessions and other
bike related events that are open to all. They can be found at
37 Mabgate Green, LS9 7DS (call the workshop on 0113 245
7274 if you get lost). Regular opening hours are Monday,
Wednesday and Thursday 4pm – 8pm.

JD Wetherspoons planning application to make the
historic Elinor Lupton Centre a 1,000 capacity pub has
been declined.
There are fears that JD
Wetherspoons will
appeal against the
refusal however.
