arte bellissimo CELEBRATING, SUPPORTING & ENJOYING THE TREASURES OF THE VATICAN MUSEUMS Winter ~ 2016 Ohio Funds 2016 Restoration Project The Ohio Chapter of the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums, is proud to announce its latest restoration project for 2016 the Tapestry of Diana by Le Gobelins. T his magnificent tapestry was woven between 1728 and 1740 and is based on the design of Pierre-Josse Perrot and was presented to the Duke of Nivernois in 1748 upon his departure to Rome. The presence of Diana in this tapestry transforms it into a celebration of the hunt, which was a popular pastime of the nobility during this time period. The tapestry is made of wool and silk with golden and silver threads and is approximately 12 feet by 9 feet. The restoration work to be completed include micro-vacuuming to remove the dust and pollution, washing in demineralized water and non-ionic surfactant and removal of older interventions that have become harmful to the tapestry. Once this beautiful tapestry is restored to its former glory it will be returned to the Room of Solomon in St. John Lateran. Place circle on a parchment lined baking sheet and lightly cover and let rise until doubled in size (about 60 minutes). Preheat oven to 350°.
