Deserving of a special mention are the beaches of Mojacar Playa they are the main draw for the resort, yet it does have so much more to offer. The Parque Commercial, a popular centre with shops, cafes and restaurants, denotes the access point from Mojacar Pueblo to the beach road and promenade, turning left towards Garrucha town offers a number of quality hotels and beaches, a golf resort, and a quieter holiday location, turning right, invites the livelier resort centre. This is still a very traditional area of Spain where family values are of the utmost importance and the resort is geared up for families and children with play parks and ice cream parlours along the seafront promenade. Relaxing entertainment venues, beach bars and quality eating establishments span the length of the spacious beach areas, where the atmosphere is laid back and friendly. That said it has to be noted that in the high season months of July and August this normally peaceful holiday spot comes alive, and the beaches, hotels, shops, restaurants, bars and clubs are bustling with holiday makers. There is a reasonable size expatriate community in Mojacar, not surprisingly many have chosen to live here permanently, with a wide mix of age groups from the retired to a good number of younger couples with families. English is spoken widely across the resort. Mojacar Playa is often featured on ‘A Place In The Sun’ on Channel 4! Mojacar Pueblo, a thirty minute uphill stroll or a five minute bus ride from Mojacar Playa finds a whitewashed hilltop village with a picture book setting, it nestles in the foothills of the Sierra Cabrera mountain range overlooking the beach resort of Mojacar Playa where the Mediterranean Sea washes onto a ten kilometre coastline of uncrowded sandy beaches. Situated in the Levante area of the province of Almeria, less than an hour’s drive from Almeria airport, Mojacar provides a central location for all the attractions of Almeria as well as a traditional holiday destination ideal for families and couples http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Spain/Andalucia/Mojacar-260929/TravelGuideMojacar.html http://choose-almeria.com/towns-villages-mojacar.php#beachresort Marina de la Torre Golf - Mojacar Playa – Spain Marina de la Torre Golf is located on the seafront road that runs between Mojacar Playa and the fishing port of Garrucha. You should note that the insurance cover on hire cars in Spain is not as comprehensive as it is in the UK. At the point of hiring on the Internet you can take out extra cover called “Excess Cover”, you might consider this. Drive on the right: It is not difficult in a hire car because the steering wheel is on the left. Take care when overtaking: If you are driving a UK car, allow more space between you and the car in front so you can see further down the road ahead. Use the indicators: You risk being fined for not indicating before overtaking and again before pulling back to the nearside lane after overtaking. Also indicate every change of direction, even if the Spanish don’t the police will stop you if you don’t. Obey the Speed Limits: Although you will see cars driving way above the 120km/h speed limit on major highways it’s not a good idea, especially in a car with foreign plates, as police and speed cameras have cropped up all over the place. Do not drink and drive: Spain has strict drink driving laws, only allowing 0.5 milligrams of alcohol per millilitre of blood – stricter than the UK, where the limit is 0.8. New drivers are effectively forbidden to drink and drive, with a very low 0.1 mg/l limit. If you know you are going to be drinking out, make sure you choose a designated driver among your friends. Wear a seatbelt: The wearing of seat belts in the front and at the back is obligatory. General rule for priority: drivers approaching an intersection must give way to all vehicles coming from the right. At a roundabout, drivers already on the roundabout have priority over drivers approaching the roundabout. Stop Signs: At a junction with a “Stop” sign make sure you come to a complete stop before moving on. The Police are very active on this and will fine you on the spot for not Stopping! Pedestrian Crossings; Are everywhere, make sure you look out for them and stop when you see pedestrians at them and watch for drivers in front stopping. Also the speed calming hubs that slow you down at the crossings! Do not use electronic devices while driving: The use of cell-phones while driving is prohibited. Hands-free kits are permitted, but they are not allowed to have earpiece attachments. The adjustment of screen-based navigation systems is also prohibited while driving. Items that must be carried when driving in Spain: Driver’s license. Visitors riding motor cycles or driving vehicles in Spain must have reached the minimum ages laid down for residents of Spain even if they are qualified to drive at a lower age in their country of residence. A foreign driving licence does not entitle the holder to drive a motor vehicle in Spain until the age of 18yrs old (25 for hire cars). Driving licences issued in EU and EEA countries are accepted. International Driving Permits (IDP) are not required for most European countries. The exceptions are that if you have an old style all green licence it is recommended, but not required, that you obtain the IDP for Italy and Spain. IDPs are also required for the countries of the former Eastern Europe. Insurance documents. Spanish law requires all vehicles, even rental cars, to have compulsory third party (CTP) insurance. QSD International Group can help you find the insurance to suit your needs. Vehicle inspection document (ITV). ITV is the safety and road worthiness vehicle inspection in Spain which is required for all vehicles. Ownership documents (or rental documents). If the vehicle is not registered in your name, carry a letter from the registered owner giving your permission to drive, rental document. Reflective jacket. Two approved reflective jackets/vests must be carried in the car at all times. They must be worn at all times in case of an emergency situation on the highway when you are outside the vehicle. It is not necessary to wear it if the incident takes place in an urban street area. Check if a hire car, that it has \t least 2 high Vis’ vests! Two warning triangles. You must carry two hazard triangles in the car at all times and be prepared to put them out in case of an emergency. Check if a hire car, that it has 2 triangles! Booster seats for under 12 children. Children under 12 are not allowed to travel in the front. Passengers under 53 inches tall are required to use child safety restraints or a booster seat. Fire extinguisher, recommended but not compulsory. First-aid kit. It is a good idea to carry a small first aid kit in the car, although this is not compulsory.
