1
One of the institution's most outstand
ing scholar-athletes, now a resident phy
sician, urged Albany State College stu
dents to be hungry for knowledge. "Seek
and search for kowledge," he urged in
his address at the College's annual Hon
ors Day Convocation here.
_.
Dr. Fred H. Ross, honored on numerous
occasions himself as one of ASC's most
distinguished scholar-athletes as an un
dergraduate, said, "let me commend each
of you for your works of excellence. Due
to your perseverance, dedication and sac
rifices, you are one of those being hon
ored here today for your successes. This
is the attitude you must have to be successful in life", he added.
Commending the college for providing
him and many of its other alumni with
the skills so necessary to take on life's
challenges, Ross, a native of Boston,
GA., encouraged those being honored
"to ensure that the process will cease if
learning is not a top priority."
An All-SIAC Academic choice in 1971,
Ross was a four-year starter as a linebacker on the Ram football teams from
1970-73 and the team's most valuable
player in 1972 and 1973.
176
Cautioning against allowing the aca
demic process to become stagnant, he
urged, "Do not be content with your
achievements and successes thus far. Set
higher goals for next year for the setting
of goals is and should be a life-long pro
cess."
Dr. Ross, a graduate of the University of
Florida Medical School, is also a regis
tered pharmacist with degrees, both
bachelor's and master's, from Florida
A&M University in pharmacology and
toxicology.
In other events of the annual Honors
Day observance, Leonard R. Minter was
presented as the recipient of the Col
lege's Teacher-of-the-Year Award.
A native of Meigs, GA., Minter, an 18year veteran of the ASC English faculty,
is an assistant professor of English.
