Shelby Herrmann & Tees Cee Dees
Score at National Western in Denver
By Tanya Randall
South Texas native Shelby Herrmann has mastered the challenging setup at the National Western in Denver, and it doesn’t matter
which horse she’s riding. In 2015, Herrmann guided her two-time
National High School Finals Rodeo qualifier TS Doc San Lena to
a reserve championship at Denver. This year, it was Tees Cee Dees
(“TC”) carrying her to at $11,387 victory.
Following the same path to success as in 2015, Herrmann chose
to run in the early in the rodeo, which had back-to-back performance for your first- and second-go runs.
“We were first out in the first round and last out in the second
round,” Herrmann said. “He had almost the exact same run every
time. He obviously liked Denver a lot.”
Herrmann and TC’s 15.30 ended up splitting the first round with
Dena Kirkpatrick and Kates Always First. They were third in the
second go with a 15.35, which was won by Kali Parker and Tuneful.
In the Finals, Herrmann and TC placed fourth with a 15.46.
Although they had the winning average of 46.11, a mistake on
the results posted on the Jumbo Tron in the arena meant Mary

Herrmann, who grew up in Orange Grove, Texas, near Corpus
Christi, had let her sister Mollee take Doc to her high school rodeos, so she had to ride TC at Denver this year.
“She kicked butt on him,” said Herrmann proudly. “She won
the rodeo Saturday and was second or third the next day, so it was
worth it. She actually started out not liking Doc and I had to convince her to get on him in the first place.”
Her sister may get to run Doc again at the big youth rodeo held
along with the pro rodeo in San Antonio, depending on how Herrmann draws.

Schiller Ranch Presents Diamonds
& Dirt Barrel Horse Classic 2016
Schiller Ranch is proud to announce the Diamonds & Dirt Barrel
Horse Classic dates for the 2016 event to be held in Bryan, Texas
at the Brazos County Expo Center from March 7th through March
13th.
The 5th annual DDBHC will benefit K9s4Cops charity which
purchases and places professionally trained K9s with law enforcement agencies across the country. For more information on the
charity recipient, please visit www.K9s4Cops.org.
Kristi Schiller, founder of K9s4Cops, says that a police service
dog is a very important tool for a law enforcement agency. “Police canines are very efficient and can accomplish a task that could
take several officers much longer to do. Any accomplished law
enforcement agency comprehends how vital a well-trained K9 team
can be to their department in keeping the community safe.”
Barrel horse riders from all over the world will converge on the
Brazos County Expo Center this March to compete in what has
become one of the nation’s premier barrel horse events. In 2015,
DDBHC gave away almost $1,000,000 in cash and prizes.
“Bryan Expo is the place to be in March if you want to compete
with the best,” said Latricia Duke, co-founder of Diamonds & Dirt
Barrel Horse Classic. “Diamonds & Dirt is a premier barrel futurity
in the state of Texas and known around the world as a first class
event.”
The Diamonds & Dirt Barrel Horse Classic offers free admission
to spectators.

string since June of last year. Bred by Leon Turnbow of Enid,
Okla., TC is by late leading barrel horse sire Bully Bullion out of
Erin To Win, by the Thoroughbred Will Win. “We got him through Reggie Herring,” Herrmann explained.
“She had him and was selling him for some friends of hers. Kimmi
Byler knew we were looking for a horse and she was like, ‘You need
to go try this horse, I promise.’”
After competing at the College National Finals in Casper,
Wyo., Herrmann, a business major at Tarleton State University in
Stephenville, Texas, flew to Oklahoma City to try TC, while her
mother, sister and a friend hauled Doc to Santa Fe, N.M., for the
pro rodeo. Herrmann made her first competitive run on TC in the
first round at Reno, where they ended up tied for seventh in the go.
“He’s really supposed to be my outdoor, summer horse, but obviously he likes indoors too,” said Herrmann, who wanted to thank
her parents Lee and Lori Herrmann and her sponsors Med-Vet
Pharmaceuticals and Storm Field Services of Robstown, Texas,
who made the purchase TC possible. “I just like run him everywhere. Honestly, between him and Doc, it’s just who I think feels
like running.”
Herrmann has had Doc, a 15-year-old bay gelding, in her barn for
four years. Bred by T & S Quarter Horses of Fairmont, Neb., Doc
is by Ciscos Lena out of Cheri Blossum Doc, by Peppy Docsan—
who is most well-known as the broodmare sire of the late great
aged event horse Nutin But A Houndog. Prior to Herrmann’s purchase of the gelding, he went to the National High School Finals
Rodeo in the pole bending.
With her dual threat, Herrmann is anxiously looking forward
to the 2016 rodeo season. Her game plan is mostly the same, but
having finished 22nd in the WPRA World Standings with $50,615 in
2015, she qualified for the better paying winter rodeos, namely San
Antonio and Houston, this year.

For the 2nd Time in a few short weeks; Mary Walker & Perculatin (Latte) won an Invitational Shootout and the winners check for
$10,000, so we thought it was a good time to catch up with her. After winning the Shootout in Denver; they came back home to
win this week’s Fort Worth Super Shootout. It is safe to say Walker
& Latte love the back to back run format of the Shootouts!
BRR: So this is your second Shootout win in the last couple weeks,
what are the keys to you and Latte’s success at these Shootouts with
their back to back runs setup? Walker: Latte has always loved the back to back runs. He seems to
get more fired up. He is always faster the second time. It is about
30-45 minutes between your first run and your second. It doesn’t
seem like a lot of time but you just keep him walking, take his boots
off and clean his legs and a drink of water and it’s time for the next
run. I know these don’t count for WPRA points but they pay $10,000
and that sure helps with the expenses of going down the road.
BRR: Can you talk a little about these Shootouts and how they fit in

me to the rest of them! I know I am not in Houston and the next
one is San Angelo so hopefully I will get invited. The Shootouts are

BRR: How is Latte feeling and what are your plans for 2016? Walker: Latte is feeling great. I plan to try to make the Finals again. I will go back to Canada some this summer. I didn’t qualify for
Calgary from the Finals so I will go a little harder this winter to try
and qualify that way.

Pedone Victorious at Pac West Futurity
By Hope Sickler
The very talented trainer Ryann Pedone ventures to Arizona after
the holidays every year to get some serious seasoning and training
done on her current and upcoming futurity horses. Over the last
few years she has not left Arizona empty-handed and this year was
no exception. Pedone and Streakin Queenie marked their name in
the dirt when they finished reserve champions at the Greg Olson
Futurity and then came back the following weekend to win the Pac
West Futurity.
“This mare (Celsey) is nothing short of spectacular. She has been
so much fun to train and ride and every time I get to swing a leg
over her it’s a victory to me,” said Pedone.
The Shoppa Ranch owns the little 14 hand mare who is a 2012
daughter of A Streak Of Fling and out of Queen Fa Time by Dash
Ta Fame.
“I typically go up to the Fulton Sale every year and ride a few
prospects that my clients are interested in. When I went up to
the 2014 production sale, I didn’t have “Celsey” picked out in the
catalog but as soon as I rode her, I knew she had to come home
with me. I called the Shoppa’s and told them that if they didn’t want
her we were going to buy her because we could see the potential
this mare had. The Shoppa’s ended up buying her and I got her in
December 2014.”
It was like fate and it didn’t take long for “Celsey” and Pedone to
start clicking and understanding one another.
“I brought her to Arizona last winter and just rode her and got
her out places. She is a corky thing, a feel good little filly, and so
hauling her around while we were in Arizona was so great for her.
I then lightly started her on the pattern and it was all so natural to
her. I didn’t start exhibitioning her until October but it worked out
great,” explained Pedone.

Rider: Ryann Pedone; Owner: Shoppa Ranch; Breeder: Brian & Lisa Fulton
Pedone and “Celsey” made their first competitive showing at the
BFA in December and placed in the first round of the juvenile and
hit a barrel in the second round to come back high in the average.
“We weren’t sure how quickly we were going to start asking her
because we wanted her to be totally confident before so. After the
BFA, we knew that she was confident and enjoying the added speed
and pressure.”

Placing in the first round of the Classic Equine Futurity and winning reserve at the Greg Olson, Pedone and the little mare were off
to a great start.
“Going into the Pac West, I was feeling good about the page that
we were on with one another. She worked great in both rounds
of the Pac West, running two 17.4’s. The biggest thing with her
(“Celsey”) is you have to stay quiet and ride her to my points and
the rest is easy. She is very correct and does everything so natural.”
Pedone is hopeful for the 2016 futurity season and is anxious to
see what it has in store for her and “Celsey” and the rest of her very
talented bunch of horses. They will head to the Lance Graves, The
Patriot, Diamonds and Dirt and a few others before making the trek
east to Ft. Smith.
“I am not a trainer that puts pressure on my horses. I do a lot
of slow work and riding out. I don’t run my horses hardly at all at
home. I like to keep my horses quiet and working slow and correct.
I also like them to learn how to run up underneath me and gain
more confidence in themselves,” concluded Pedone.

Headin’ For Home
I
n Mark 11:22-23 Jesus says, “For verily I say unto YOU, that
WHOSOEVER shall say unto this mountain (problem in life),
be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not
doubt in HIS heart, but shall believe that those things which HE
saith shall come to pass; HE shall have whatsoever HE saith.”
That’s a lot of “saithing”! The bottom line is, YOUR mountain
needs to hear YOUR voice. It’s so simple. You find the promise in
the Bible that covers that situation and you speak that and that only
out of your own mouth. You’re talking the answer, not rehearsing the problem. So many times we want to talk the problem to
death and that changes nothing. But if you put your mouth on the
answer, it changes your mindset and you begin to see that God has
the answer and you are receiving that answer. If we do that, when
trouble comes, it can’t stay around very long!
I heard a neat definition of “whosoever”.
Anybody can.
Everybody won’t.
BUT SOMEBODY WILL!
That somebody should be you and I, the victorious ones!
