Today, 43 years later, the 200 employees own the Company — and we’re still excited about providing our customers with consistently superior varieties that are easy to grow and result in produce of exceptional eating quality. "Good food is the basis of our well-being, and quality seeds are fundamental in creating good food." — ROBERT JOHNSTON, JR. We're also pleased to announce that two of our Bred-by-Johnny’s sweet peppers, Escamillo and Cornito Giallo, have been chosen as 2016 All-America Selections (AAS) National Award Winners (see page 6). As you can see from our latest catalog, we’ve been working hard at Johnny’s. I invite you to take a closer look at our company story and our new video, at Johnnyseeds.com/WhyJohnnys Thank you very much for your business. We will continue to be honored and inspired by your support. J Glycine max A long-time favorite for the home garden. Sweet and buttery. Butterbeans are acclaimed as the finest in green vegetable soybeans. The 0.6-0.75 m stocky plants are well-branched and stand well, producing a prolific set of large pods with tan pubescence. A good percentage of pods contain three large beans that are relatively easy to shell. Please note that there will be a few plants with white pubescence and an occasional extra-tall plant in this year's seed lot. The beans on the white plants taste similar to the regular Butterbeans, but those on the extra-tall plants are of inferior eating quality. We are working on removing these offtypes from future productions. Black Jet 99 104 days. Glycine max Best flavor for use as a dry bean. Easy to grow, even in shortseason areas. The approx. 0.6 m plants are early maturing and are prolific yielders of medium-sized, jet-black soybeans. Thin skinned with rich flavor. Butterbeans High Quality Standards “Our dedicated team does its best to ensure that every product Johnny’s sells meets our strict requirements, and we won’t release any product until it does — because our growers already face plenty of risks working with Mother Nature.” Bonita Nicolas Quality Assurance Manager Johnny's Selected Seeds Black Jet Corn OLD FASHIONED SWEET CORN Double Standard 289G 73 days. J Zea mays Open-pollinated, bicolor sweet corn. Early maturing, with strong germination in cool soil. We developed this hardy corn for northern home gardeners, especially seed-saving enthusiasts. It is based on a nice yellow corn called Burnell that was grown in Maine in the early 1900's and an early white heirloom from New York's St. Lawrence Valley. Nice-sized, 17.8 cm ears with yellow and white kernels, some ears with yellow kernels only. Unlike the seeds of hybrid bicolor corn, which are all yellow, these are yellow and white. If desired, you can have early, all-white corn simply by planting only white kernels. Excellent traditional corn taste. Vigorous 1.5 m plants. Double Standard J Seeds that have been grown without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, strictly adhering to the USDA's National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) organic gardening practices. Variety is an All-America Selections Winner 3 Cucumbers SEEDLESS AND THIN-SKINNED Diva 2198T & 2198 58 days. (HR: S. IR: CVYV, DM, PM.) Cucumis sativus Especially flavorful when harvested small. Every row of every field is physically walked with a watchful eye out for off-types, which are then removed. Grow-outs and trials are performed to ensure that we maintain the highest quality strains on the market. • In addition to the productions that are done on the Johnny’s research farm in Maine, we partner with a number of other producers who share our core values and are considered part of the Johnny’s family. We work with them through crop failures, equipment upgrades, and QA testing to help them develop as a producer of our seeds. 18 Johnnyseeds.com 1-877-564-6697 (Fax) 1-207-854-8560 Johnny's Selected Seeds Industry Standard Productions Part # Vegetable Variety Product Part # Vegetable Variety Product 099 Black Jet Beans 2053 Costata Romanesco Summer Squash 099G Black Jet Organic Beans 680G Blue Hubbard Organic Winter Squash 104G Butterbean Organic Beans 677G Red Kuri Organic Winter Squash 105 Envy Beans 773 Goldie Organic Husk Cherry 2535G Jerry Peterson Blue Organic Corn, Dry 2075 De Milpa Organic Tomatillo 311G Nothstine Dent Organic Corn, Dry 3817G Amish Paste Organic Tomatoes 2534G Strubbes Orange Organic Corn, Dry 757 Bellstar Organic Tomatoes 331G H-19 Little Leaf Organic Cucumbers 088G Black Cherry Organic Tomatoes 330 Northern Pickling Organic Cucumbers 3814G Black Krim Organic Tomatoes 333G Suyo Long Organic Cucumbers 2971G Black Prince Organic Tomatoes 2226 Harrowsmith Select Gourds 3517G Blush Organic Tomatoes 2226G Harrowsmith Select Organic Gourds 2845 Brandywine Organic Tomatoes 377 Green Wave Greens 821G Cherokee Green Organic Tomatoes 2378 Wrinkled Crinkled Cress Greens 753G Cherokee Purple Organic Tomatoes 363 Red Russian Kale 3815G German Johnson Organic Tomatoes 2123G Toscano Organic Kale 738 Gold Nugget Organic Tomatoes 416 King Richard Leeks 716 Great White Organic, Tomatoes 416G King Richard Organic Leeks 2276 Green Zebra Organic Tomatoes 435G Buttercrunch MT0 Organic Lettuce 2795G Japanese Black Trifele Organic Tomatoes 444G Crispino MT0 Organic Lettuce 3857G Lucky Tiger Organic Tomatoes 423G Deer Tongue MT0 Organic Lettuce 732 Matt's Wild Cherry Tomatoes 2716NG Flashy Trout Back Organic Lettuce 756 Moskvich Organic Tomatoes 349G Jericho MT0 Organic Lettuce 748 Nepal Organic Tomatoes 438G Nancy MT0 Organic Lettuce 725 Oregon Spring Organic Tomatoes 2208N Outredgeous Lettuce 712 Pruden's Purple Organic Tomatoes 2208G Outredgeous MT0 Organic Lettuce 2057 Purple Tomatoes 2234N Parris Island Organic Lettuce 2166 Rose Organic Tomatoes 431G Red Sails MT0 Organic Lettuce 3816 Speckled Roman Tomatoes 2233N Red Salad Bowl Organic Lettuce 3816G Speckled Roman Organic Tomatoes 2236N Rouge D'Hiver Organic Lettuce 2372 Striped German Organic Tomatoes 2235N Salad Bowl Organic Lettuce 749 Valencia Organic Tomatoes 428G Waldmann's Dark Green MT0 Organic Lettuce 764 Washington Cherry Organic Tomatoes 2782G Eden's Gem Organic Melons 2977G White Cherry Organic Tomatoes 459 Sweet Granite Organic Melons 714 Yellow Brandywine Organic Tomatoes 363M Kale, Red Russian Micro Green 705G Purple Top White Globe Organic Turnips 504G New York Early Organic Onions Part # Flower & Herb Variety Product 499G Purplette Organic Onions 901 Angelica Organic Angelica 559G Sugar Ann Organic Peas 1700 Sweet Annie Organic Artimesia 558G Sugar Snap Organic Peas 906 Cinnamon Basil 595 Antohi Romanian Peppers 2935 Alph Organic Calendula 595G Antohi Romanian Organic Peppers 2343G Hot Paper Lantern Organic Peppers 2344 Joe's Long Cayenne Peppers 2342 Lipstick Organic Peppers 2338G Numex Joe E Parker Organic Peppers 666 Padron Peppers 560 Pretty in Purple Peppers 2393G Round of Hungary Organic Peppers 629G Baby Pam Organic Pumpkins 603G Howden Organic Pumpkins 2860 Kakai Pumpkins 2860T Kakai Treated Pumpkins 2051 Long Island Cheese Pumpkins 592G New England Pie Organic Pumpkins 2164 Queensland Blue Pumpkins 599G Tom Fox Organic Pumpkins 599T Tom Fox Treated Pumpkins 2185 Valenciano Pumpkins 2783 Winter Luxury Pumpkins J Seeds that have been grown without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, strictly adhering to the USDA's National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) organic gardening practices.
