MSHA ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET AND LIMITED BREEDERS’ STALLION AUCTION MSHA held their annual Limited Breeders’ Stallion Auc on and Awards banquet on Saturday February 8, 2014 at the picturesque Town and Country Club in St. Paul. Bidding for the Limited Breeders’ Stallion Auc on started at 3:00 PM. Banquet a endees began to arrive for the fes vi es at 5:00 PM. This year a Facebook page was establish to promote the Minnesota Saddlebred Futuri es & Limited Breeders’ Stallion Auc on. Headed by Alice Lear, the great team of Margaret Easton and Renae Wesenberg brought this Alice Lear, Margaret Easton, & Kris Swanson
event to frui on. These three hard working ladies and Tim Duerr worked to Photo by Dawn Moore
bring new stallions to the auc on and to promote these stallions to the masses. Top stallions Designed, Tomcat (SA), Undulata’s Nutcracker and many more were available. To date, the auc on has bought in over $22,075 for the 2015 Minnesota Limited Breeders’ Weanling class! These classes are held each year at the Minnesota Futurity Horse Show in Winona. Eighteen stallions sold this year, more than double from last year. The proven show and futurity sire, Undulata's Nutcracker, brought in the highest bid at $8,500. Generously donated by owner Kris Swanson, Margaret Easton was the lucky bidder on Nutcracker! Futurity nomina on forms can now be downloaded from our MSHA website page for your convenience. If you are a Facebook follower, please “LIKE” the Minnesota Saddlebred Futuri es & Limited Breeders’ Stallion Auc on page. Even if you’re not looking to breed a horse, there are some awesome pictures of our American Saddlebred horses to admire! You might even find a rela ve of your own horse there. Whimsical rearing horses greeted everyone at the entrance of the banquet. Inside more colorful signs lured all to get into the carnival spirit and try their luck at winning a prize. A bean bag toss was added this year, along with the popular wine toss and duck pond. Everyone had fun hamming it up at the newly added photo booth! A set of carousel horses welcomed bidders to the silent auc on tables. The Valiant Youth Group, headed up by Cheyenne Cairns, created all the vibrant artwork. A big thank you for all their hard work to make this year’s banquet even more fes ve! Tim Duerr

Two large posters for the new Capitol Classic Horse Show were also on display. These beau fully designed posters were created by Kris Maule. Flyers for the new horse show could also be found on every table. There was a great assortment of silent auc on items! There was everything from a fancy driving hat, a Saddle Horse Report subscrip on to a horse show package donated by Horse Show Services, LTD. Judy Jensen

There were three big items for the live auc on. A deluxe winter fishing ou ng and dinner for four was donated by Dana Sibbe . This fishing ou ng will be graciously hosted by Dana himself! A custom oil pain ng of your favorite subject was donated by equine and animal ar st Jeanne Schoborg. An adult riding camp package at the Biggins Stables complete with hotel accommoda ons was donated by John and Renee Biggins. This package also included a gi cer ficate for American jods donated by Midwest Saddleseat Consignment. A endance was up this year with the addi on of new Academy members. This year we honored 24 Academy members for their par cipa on in the Youth Achievement Awards Program! These young riders work hard to earn their pla num, gold, silver and bronze medallions. Congratula ons to all our Y.A.A.P. winners! Valiant Youth Group

Congratula ons to all our 2013 year-end high point award winners and high point Academy award winners! Our 2013 MSHA Scholarship winners in the 15-17 year old division were Caitlyn Liljedahl ($1000.00 recipient) and Olivia Rice ($500.00 recipient). Mya Lear-Tharaldson was the recipient of the $300.00 scholarship in the 11-14 year division. The Flaming Award was presented to CF Night At The Castle and rider Cecilia Ball! The banquet is a me to relax and have a good me in a fes ve atmosphere. To celebrate our goals and hard work during the show season. To sit down and have a delicious dinner with our fellow horse friends. It is always fun to see your friends and fellow compe tors all dressed up for the occasion. Some mes it's hard to recognize your own trainer or instructor when they are not in barn clothes or a riding suit! New friendships can be found or old ones renewed. It is a me to celebrate our horses, accomplishments and friendships! Please join us next year for the annual MSHA Awards Banquet. Don't forget to nominate your horse or rider for the 2014 MSHA Year-End Awards Program. Show season is here! Best of luck to all and may all your rides bring you joy! The Minnesota Academy Equestrian Finals The first annual Minnesota Academy Equestrian Finals were held October 27th, 2013, at the AgStar Arena located on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. There had been much discussion over the last several years on ways to promote the Academy shows and grow the entry level point in the horse show industry in Minnesota. The brainchild of Alice Lear and Cary Bartz, the Minnesota Academy Equestrian Finals, is a way to promote and recognize new par cipants in the industry! A rider must show at three different Academy shows in Minnesota to qualify for the Finals. Qualified riders from seven different stables were eligible to compete in the Finals. Of the twenty-eight eligible riders, twenty-one of them competed in both one equita on and one pleasure class. All compe ng riders received a blue ribbon neck sash and a medal, which was worn throughout the show! The judging was done using a three judge system. Beth Biden, Bridget Brennan, and Lori Enger were the judges for the Finals. Tara Perkins acted as ringmaster while Dana Sibbet of Radon Inc. generously donated the first place trophies. The winners received a beau ful duffel bag adorned with the Minnesota Academy Equestrian Finals logo! All par cipates received a copy of the Na onal Horseman magazine, a gi cer ficate from Midwest Saddleseat Consignment, and a window decal of the Minnesota Academy Equestrian Finals logo. A celebra on followed with scrump ous cakes enjoyed by all! Horse show photographer Stephanie Whitney was on hand to capture the celebra on fes vi es as well. Following the Finals and the celebra on was the first qualifying show, for the 2014 Minnesota Academy Equestrian Finals. Fourteen riders competed in this first qualifier for 2014! Mark your calendars for October 26, 2014 for the 2nd Annual Minnesota Academy Equestrian Finals. Please come out to support and cheer on our newest exhibitors!
