MEET THE PREFECTS: THE BLUE-TIE WONDER TEAM
Philip Karageorghis 5B
I bet most of you, especially the newcomers, are wondering what prefects are. First of
all, the word prefect is not just a misspelled version of the word perfect. Prefects are
there to help and guide the student body; even though sometimes they have to survive
some paper cuts in the process. The blue tie may appear intimidating, but the people
behind it are nonetheless friendly and welcoming. But who are the students behind the
blue ties?

CAMPAIGN CHAOS
Iasonas Pafitis 4B & Natalie Godjamanian 4R
One of the highlights of every year at the Falcon School is definitely the election of the new
school president. Each year, the candidates never fail to entertain and win the hearts of their
fellow students, with the prospects of a new and improved school year. This year is no exception, with Demetra Onoufriou, Joune Kawas and Elias Ioannides running. Ultimately, Demetra’s
campaign proved victorious with a total vote of 11 classes out of 18. We interviewed each of the
candidates, asking about their thoughts and feelings about running for president and about their
time in the Falcon School.
The rules change; Two people out of the three can be
elected. Who would you choose to work with and why?
Demetra: Both Elias and Joune are two amazing people with great
personalities and characters. It is very difficult for me to decide between the two because both are very fun to be with, and I think both
would prove to be great partners.
Elias: Mr. Lukis, because he is the best person in Falcon.
Joune: Me, myself & I is the motto I go with. I would go to our biology/chemistry lab and clone myself, make the clone run for presidency and team up with it. But on a more politically correct note, it's
hard to choose! Elias would be able to appeal to the 'men' of our
school while Demetra is simply my love. Hard to choose, but I'd
probably go with my first idea.
What if your plans were rejected by the management?
How would you react to a ‘no’?
Demetra: It depends on whether the plans and promises were way
too extreme. Obviously, we can't change major things, such as banning the uniform. We could try, but I think everyone deep inside
knows the honest truth. However, if I tried and received a negative
answer I would try even harder with the management and show
them the positive side of the plan, and I would arrange more meetings and discussions.
Elias: There’s always a way; you fall only to stand back up and try
even harder.
Joune: After trying hard to change the 'no', I would move on and
present another idea. I’d try to make it work for the management and
the students. Or I would run away and cry in a corner.

P AGE 9
If you could do one thing for the school, what would you do? It can be as ridiculous as you like.
Demetra: Transform the pitch into a zoo or a circus
Elias: Nothing at all, the school is as good as can be.
Joune: As soon as I read the question, I knew what my answer
would be. I would replace all the stairs of the school with slides.
Just imagine it; it would be amazing sliding from floor to floor.
What is the most memorable moment of your campaigning experience?
Demetra: Giving candy to the primary, but then remembering
they do not vote. Also when Panayiota,a first former, designed
two really nice posters for me. Thank you for that, dear! When I
brought my beloved child, my dog Dolly, to school.
Elias: Watching the kids run around.
Joune: The campaign week was one of the best weeks I've ever
had in the school. It was five days of lots of effort as it was very
tiring, but I loved every second of it. It's hard to give just one
memorable moment because the whole week was unforgettable.
However, making my speech at the end of it all was fulfilling and
something I've wanted to do for a long time.
Joune, in your speech you said you’ve been here for 14 years. What’s a memorable moment during
those years?
From learning how to tie my shoes to running for school president, I think it's safe to say
that there were many memorable moments. But one time I vomited all over my maths
books in Primary 4. Not such a nice memorable moment but it was definitely memorable.
Elias, in your speech you said “I love my school”.
What do you love about Falcon?
The P.E. lessons
Demetra, how do you feel now that you’ve won?
It feels goooood! Seriously, I was not expecting it.
Unfortunately, I am the type of person who rarely
believes in themselves. So it was a surprise for
me! Thanks for everything guys! I won't let you
down.

CLEANING UP WITH STYLE: INTERNATIONAL CLEAN UP
Artemis Loucaidou 5R
Saturday the 29th of September
was International Clean Up Day
during which people from 94
countries all over the world met
up to clean areas full of rubbish.
Along with them, our school’s Eco
reps, five of our teachers, and a
group of eco friendly students
volunteered to help.
We met at 9:00a.m. and made our
way to Lapatsa where we met
other volunteers. We were given
instructions by the organizers who
also supplied us with the
appropriate equipment-gloves,
bags, t-shirts and hats- and
moved to the rubbish-dump ready
for action.
Divided into teams, we started
collecting and separating the
rubbish as instructed. Among
the items were clothes, bottles,
pipes, furniture and even a toilet! It’s amazing what people get
rid of (and where!). The most
interesting discovery was a
snake’s skin, which drew our
attention immediately.
Cleaning up all kinds of rubbish
from bottles to toilets.
“It was a drop in the
ocean.”
Mrs. Antoniades
We managed by 11:30 to fill up
2 skips and dozens of bags.
We stored everything in piles,
and, filthy but satisfied, we
made our way towards the bus.
We did the best we could to
keep Cyprus a clean and
friendly place.
WIPING OUT THE MESS: THE STELIOS IOANNOU
FOUNDATION
Katie Kapodistria 5Y
Every year, a group of enthusiastic
Charity Reps and friends from our
school gather at the Stelios Ioannou
Foundation area to help them prepare
and clean for their upcoming annual
international bazaar. This year, on
Saturday 6th October, bright and early,
we were on the premises, getting
ready for the long process.
Along with Mrs. Antoniades and Mrs.
Koumas, we got our buckets of
soapy water, sponges and cloths,
and began. Over 3 hours later, tired
and wet, all the tables were successfully cleaned, wiped and covered in
tablecloths.
By 12 o’clock, we had all gone our
separate ways, knowing that we had
helped a worthy cause yet again.

MALTA HERE WE COME!
Connie Christofi 1R
24/10/12
At the beginning of the summer, P5 and
P6, went on a trip to Malta. It was a long
journey for us and when we arrived, we
headed straight to the hotel. We stayed
at the Intercontinental St.Julians Hotel.
We received the keys for our accommodation from the reception, and when we
finally opened the door, to what we would
call our rooms for the following days, we
discovered how nice and comfortable
they were. After settling down in our
rooms, we all explored the different parts
of the hotel.
Opposite our hotel there was a big mall and down by the road there was a beach. It was a really
great and fun location. Whenever there was a Euro 2012 football match, we would go to the mall to
watch it; otherwise, we would go to the beach to enjoy ourselves in the water.
In Malta, we visited towns like Rabat, Mosta and Mdina. We even visited the fourth largest dome
church in the world, called Mosta Dome, as well as many beautiful castles. Mdina particularly, was a
very fascinating medieval town, with many old buildings and narrow old streets. The Popeye Village
was equally fascinating, as it was the place where the famous Popeye movie was made.
In addition, we had lots of fun at the ‘Splash & Fun’ water park; this was most people’s favourite part
of the trip. The Valetta glass factory visit, was also an interesting experience as it enabled us to see
how they make elaborate glass figurines. While in Malta, we also visited Gozo, where we had the
chance to go on a boat ride to the blue lagoon. There the caves were truly captivating.
The trip was a great and fun experience for us, and hopefully for our teachers as well.

FIRST FORM’S WILD SIDE
Eleni Papadopoulos 1R
On Friday, the 28th of September, the First form went to the Santa Marina Retreat for the day, where we
all enjoyed all sorts of activities. All three classes were divided into three big groups; teams A, B and C.
Each group enjoyed various activities during the course of the day. These activities included: archery,
climbing on sky trail ropes, golf, exploring a labyrinth and finally, a treasure hunt adventure.
Team B discovered the treasure in the adventure, which was a voucher for a free entrance for two people, including a free activity at the Retreat. When we had all finished our activities and had lunch, we
went to see a pig named Wilbur, whose best friend is a Chihuahua! After that, we had a chance to visit
the horses at the stable. Once we had seen Wilbur and the horses, we went back up to the cafeteria
and had some delicious ice cream. By the time we had all finished our ice cream, it was time for us to
go. Our time at the retreat was memorable and very enjoyable. We shall always remember the strong
friendship of Wilbur and the Chihuahua.

EXPRESS YOURSELF PROUDLY: THE EYP EXPERIENCE
Andrea Ellina 6R, Anna Daniel 6R, Erina Zannetou 6R, Eleana Demosthenous 6B
Four days of intensive brainwork and interaction with others. Four days of fun and games. Four days
of lifelong memories. That is what the 6th National Session of the European Youth Parliament in Cyprus was like. Teenagers from all over Cyprus had the chance of becoming politicians for four days,
and attempting, through their resolutions, to combat major current European Issues.

EYP is all about connecting with complete strangers
and learning to trust them so that by the end in the
General Assembly each committee becomes a unified
team. This is cleverly and playfully achieved through
Teambuilding. Teambuilding consists of a series of
games which aim to create a sense of comfort and
confidence among delegates.

“Big Fat Pony” and the “Treasure Hunt” were two of
the many games, which we are sure the delegates
who attended the session will remember distinctly for
years to come. For many of the delegates, teambuilding is the best part of EYP. The bond created among
delegates is long lasting, as well as the respect nurtured through the various games. These feelings of
trust and confidence are brought out in the quality of
their resolution, which each committee creates together and defends as a unified team in the General
Assembly.
“I personally loved everything about
it, especially the confidence you gain
out of the whole session and the
friends you end up texting by the end
of it. You feel like a young politician
who tries to make a difference and
change the world.”

Hyperactivity, a few hours of sleep and insane consumption of food describe the three days
of committee work at Episkopiana Hotel and Heritage High School. All of us during committee
work enjoyed intense debates, but also phrasing and re-phrasing operative and introductory
clauses until they were, what we considered perfect. Committee work was one of the best
parts of those 3 days, as you really get to speak up, show off your research skills and hence,
your knowledge on your topic.
Ideas are thrown on the table, solutions are mentioned and you
along with your peers have to work together to put everything in
order. You get the chance to see how different personalities
form a team to create a resolution like normal politicians would
do.
Finally the zenith of the whole session was the last day, during
which the General Assembly took place. Each committee had
not only to defend their work, but convince others to vote for it.
This simulation of the European Parliament, helps each delegate
practice their citizenship rights and encourages them to be involved in recent issues, along with working in a team.
“ I have to say that the session wouldn’t be the same without the
officials: the organisers, the journalists and the chairs, who made the
session simply amazing and unforgettable!” Timur Ikramov
“ We were proud of the
Falcon students, as they
fully participated in all
activities with
enthusiasm and interest,
forming friendships and
making contacts, that will
stand them in good
stead in the future. The
reward of this
engagement was being

FALCON DIVES FOR CHARITY
Andrew Stylianou 3R
Right after 1:15 on the 5th of October, I grabbed my pencil and pad and dashed to the pool. The
Primary Department swimmers had already begun their laps, and I sat there in awe. You could see the
determination and passion, and even the satisfaction in their eyes as they slowly but surely tallied up lap
after lap after lap. After seeing such an amazing sight I was almost sad when it seemed most of the swimmers had left, but my spirits were lifted when a second more energetic and eager wave of Secondary
swimmers appeared. I was instantly captivated by them as they glided through the water with relative
ease. I also must have made a fool of myself because of the smile that came to my face when I saw Mrs.
Demetriades, Mr. Balkwill and Mr. Loukianos enter the pool. Once I’d snapped out of my trance I interviewed a swimmer as she pulled herself out of the pool.
REPORTER: How do you feel?
FANIA: I can’t feel my legs, but I’m happy to have helped raise
a lot of money. I would also like to apologize to one of my
sponsors who had sponsored me per lap *giggle*

need to apologize?
FANIA: I’ve completed 204 laps!

After that interview every single swimmer, student or teacher, had gained my respect for their eager and admirable
contribution to a Center of Haematological Malignancies also known as Challenges 4 Life.
Students counting laps also contributed and clung onto their sheets to ensure that they weren’t blown away by the
wind while focusing on counting their lane’s laps. They too had a look of determination (and boredom, but mostly
determination) in their eyes. I was amongst them by the end of the gala and it felt good to participate somehow,
even though I wasn’t swimming and, even though I’d already been there for hours, I stuck to my guns and finally
finished counting the last swimmers’ laps. It felt satisfying in a way I can’t express. All I have left to say is well done

THE EVENT OF THE SUMMER 2012: LONDON’S OLYMPIC
2 4 GAMES
/10/12
Stephanos Jack 3R
The summer is over, and with it goes one of the greatest sporting events
in history. This year’s London 2012 Olympic Games were a spectacle to
behold. Right from the glorious Opening Ceremony, you could tell that
this was going to be an event to remember.
The atmosphere at the games was electric. A record number of 4 billion
people tuned in, just to watch at least one Olympic event on television;
therefore, this makes it the most watched event on television ever. Also,
44 world records and 117 Olympic records were broken during these
games and Michael Phelps has become the most successful Olympian of
all time. All of this sums up to make it one of the most successful Olympic
Games of all time.
The events, including the London Closing Ceremony, were an amazing thing to watch; having all those
athletes achieving their aims and getting their gold, silver and bronze medals, is incomparable. The one
which sticks out in my head the most has to be the 100m sprint final. Watching the runners just move faster than I thought was humanly possible, really amazed me.
The mood at the games was almost like a big party. The crowd would cheer on the athletes and when
someone won or broke a record a deafening noise would consume the court. Most people who viewed the
sports didn’t go to that particular sport because they were interested in it, but rather because that might
have been the only one that they could get into. The reason for that is because of the way that the tickets
were sold. Whoever was interested in getting tickets had to enter a draw, so they couldn’t choose what
sports they were getting tickets for. As a result of this, before each sport a video clip was shown to the
crowd on the screens explaining the rules of the event.
This year the London Olympics were hosted in a big park within London which was built specifically for the
event. Within it were all the fields and arenas where
the sports would take place, and at the very center

As well as the Olympics, London was also host to the

who have certain permanent problems with their
health, mental or physical disabilities. It is always fantastic to see people who might have given up hope
because of their disabilities, just strive for their goals
and achieve them, and do them even better than most
“healthy” people.
Let’s all hope that Rio can live up to the legacy of London 2012, but we have four years to wait until that
happens. As it stands, London
2012 has been a memorable
experience for me, and I think
for a lot of people, and I just

DARE TO BE HEALTHY NOT “PERFECT”
Fania Christodoulides 5B & Mrs. Elena Antoniadou–Zeilaa
In our lives today, various forms of media
have imposed certain stereotypes; what the
flawless woman should look like, what the
ideal man should be like, and most significantly, what perfect body shape and size is.
These standards can dictate lives and the
amount of self confidence someone has, often not in the right way. From all the publicities we come to think that if we don’t look like
a certain model, we can’t be what society
deems as “beautiful” or “sexy”.
What the media doesn’t show us, is the whole
picture. When you see a model in an advertisement, all you see is their body. What we
don’t see is their story. The media doesn’t tell
us that 40% of models, have eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia. Society’s view of “perfect”
is not healthy, and it is definitely not real. Yet, there is a twisted conception that it is.
With the use of computers and Photoshop, rarely what we see is actually there. Flawless skin? Not
there. Perfect hair? Think again. Not a cell of fat? Yeah right.
Although we cannot control what the media views as perfect, we can create our own perfect. A healthy
perfect. Through sports and proper nutrition we can have a healthy body, a fit body, which does not
necessarily have to resemble the cover photo of Vogue Magazine. We discover how to respect our
unique body shape and size, and we learn to respect diversity. Our healthy body, is not necessarily
someone else’s healthy body, and vice versa. We’re all different, wouldn’t it be so boring if we were
all the same?
By exercising, (we are not implying that you have to become a world class athlete to be healthy) things
such as going for a 30 minute walk every day, jogging, riding your bike, or even joining the school’s
Athletics Club, are all ways to stay active.
Society’s view is often incorrect, and it misleads us into thinking what is right or wrong, what is beautiful or ugly, what is perfect and what is not, when in reality, there is no need to achieve what society
perceives as acceptable. It is up to us to make sure that our decisions dictate our lives, to make ourselves happy and to create our own version of “perfect.”
In this picture of Jessica Alba,
we can clearly see the
"before" and "after" Photoshop version. Not only has
her hair become more glossy,
her skin become more radiant, but her waistline has also
changed!

NEW CLUBS ON THE MENU
Andrea Ellina 6R with Vikash Panjiyar 3B & Armen Godjamanian 3B
Hors D’oeuvres: Zumba
Zumba makes you sweat to Latin-American rhythms, like salsa,
cumbia, reggaeton and merenges. Your body synchronises to the
rhythm of the music, but you are still free to express yourself in your
own way, as there is no right or wrong in Zumba. There are nine
songs, each with a different choreography, providing a variety of
movements, hence managing to keep you enthusiastic and interested
during the lesson. It is one of the greatest cardio exercises and it is
really fun as well. Mrs. Elena is going to be teaching this Colombian
dance fitness program, where 20 students can enjoy themselves,
while working out and keeping themselves healthy.
Seafood: Lifeguard
For the seafood course, we propose the new Lifeguard club. The Lifeguard
club, which is under the guidance of Ms. Shaka, consists of 14 people. This
course will provide the right skillset for students, who want to be able to save
someone from drowning. By the end of the school year, the members of the lifeguard club will develop communication, leadership and other vital social skills,
but most of all they will be able to save people’s lives, without endangering
themselves. At the end of the year, the students will have the option to get certified.
Main course: Cookery
As the main course of our ‘New clubs on the Menu’, we couldn’t have anything else but the Cooking Club. The 12 junior girls, who are the members of
this club, are being taught by Mrs. Stavrou how versatile food can be. In this
club, the members share ideas about food and recipes. Then they bring their
ideas to life, by cooking delicious and local cuisine. They also research interesting facts about ingredients, like where they originate, how they grow and
the various customs different cultures have involving those ingredients.
Desert: Drama
The bittersweet choice in our menu is the Drama club. The taste originates from the fact that
the club will be performing a modern version of “Romeo and Juliet” - “Romeo loves Juliet,
OK?” The classic ingredients of the tragedy will be infused with some subtle flavours from
“Macbeth”. This year, the students will be challenged to get in character, as Shakespeare’s
plays are rather intricate. Following last year’s successful production of “Animal Farm” by
George Orwell, the members of the Drama Club are highly motivated and very enthusiastic to
perform in this play.

BLOSSOMING SMILES
Stephanos Jack 3R
On the 5th of October the Falcon School celebrated ‘World Teachers’ Day’ a day when we all celebrate the people
who provide us with tools that cannot only be used on paper, but in real life as well. Each teacher on that day received a flower, as a symbol of our appreciation. This kind act was the idea of the representative of the whole student body, our President, Demetra Onoufriou. These are her comments:
How did you come up with the idea?
“Well, I had a discussion with Ms. Ierides about ‘World Teachers’ day’ and we decided that giving flowers would
be a nice idea.”
How do you think the teachers reacted?
“I think they really liked it, especially the Primary teachers! I feel that they really appreciated this gesture.”
However, the stars of the day were the teachers, so we were curious to find out about what they thought of the

THE GRIMM REALITY: THE TRUTH BEHIND FAIRYTALES
Andrea Ellina 6R
‘Life itself is the most
wonderful fairytale of
all.’
Hans Christian
Andersen
Witches, dragons, fairies, and all kinds of mythical creatures, are brought
to life when reading a fairytale. But fairytales can never be considered to
be a part of real life itself. So what would happen if a fairytale started with
‘Based upon a time’ instead of ‘Once upon a time’? Would it be possible
for a fairytale to be based on a true story?
Reality Vs. Fantasy
Art has been imitating reality since the beginning of time, but even so, not all the aspects of a fairytale can
be true. Some may argue that dragons and wizards really exist, but which aspects of them can be proven
to be true?
The most well known example of a fairytale being based on a true story is the one of princess Anastasia.
The Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia was quite normal if you consider the eccentric disposition of her mother and father; the former having a strong belief in the powers of the supernatural and the
latter being indisposed to care for any of his female offspring. After Russia’s Bolshevik Revolution in
1917, the Romanov family was executed in their palace. However, the bodies of Anastasia and Alexei, her
brother, were not found in the family grave. Naturally, there was a lot of speculation about them having
survived. But unlike the fairytale, the princess didn’t survive and her body, along with the one of her brother, was discovered in 2007.
“Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” Margarete Von Waldeck, a 16 th century Bavarian
noblewoman was indeed the fairest of them all and the real life version of Snow White. As a sixteen-yearold girl she moved to Brussels in 1549, where she met Prince Charming, otherwise known as Prince Philip
II of Spain. Her stepmother, as in the fairytale, did loathe her, but she wasn’t the only one displeased with
the young lady, as the King of Spain considered a marriage between his son and Margarete politically disadvantageous. Margarete died when she was 21 years old. Her memoir proved that she was poisoned.
Her stepmother though, was innocent of the crime, as she died before Margarete. It is thought that Spanish agents were the real culprits, but nothing was ever proved. Margarete and Snow White did not only
have an evil stepmother in common, but the poisoning too. However, there are seven little details missing,
as well as one lethal snack. Margarete’s brother owned a copper mine, which was operated by small children whom they used to refer to as “dwarves”. Also, in her homeland Germany, there used to be an old
man, who used to give poisoned apples to children, whom he thought were stealing from him.
Meeting Prince Charming
Finally, the glass shoe, which has kicked the imagination of most of the girls in the world into gear, is said
to have been worn by an ancient Grecian woman, named Rhodopis. Rhodopis was captured from Thrace,
at some time around 500 BC and was sold into slavery and taken to an island, where interestingly
enough, another man named Aesop lived (though the two of them never met). She had a fair complexion,
blond hair and light eyes; traits, which made her stand out among other Egyptian slaves. She soon became the favourite of her master, Charaxos, who presented her with a pair of expensive gold shoes. However, Pharaoh Ahmose II took a liking to Rhodopis, whom he made his wife and she joined his “House of
Women”. Both Cinderella and Rhodopis kept their expensive shoes, but I guess
Cinderella was the only one who met her real Prince Charming.
Fantasy may not be so far away from reality. Just when you least
expect it, your reality could become your long-wishing fantasy. All
you need is a little imagination to make it happen!
And we all lived happily ever after!

T HE C LOUD
CLOSE TO HOME: PART I
George Homer
A faint light flickers through the back window of the decrepit house. The abandoned part of the inner city houses
a pocket of life at this ungodly hour. “You idiot, you spilt the stuff all over the floor”, comes a hushed, yet angry
voice. The shadowy figure ascends the stairs to the occupied room. Such naughty children.
The sun had hardly risen as Andreas walked through the steel gates, grateful for the end of the week which had
seemed to take forever to come. The heat hadn’t kicked in yet, and temperatures didn’t start getting cold yet,
making that time of the morning fairly pleasant. He felt a breeze as he placed his bag in his locker and sat down
on the sturdy old wooden bench, soon joined by his friends.
The guys, like Andreas, were all locals. He didn’t have many classmates who weren’t. Most of them were born
and raised within Nicosia. Giorgos, flicking his long straight hair out of his eyes, sat down next to him and sighed.
His breath smelt strongly of coffee.
“Cheer up, man. ‘S Friday,” was Petros’ attempt at cheering him up. “Lessons are shorter, the night’s longer.”
Andreas always found him to be sickeningly happy, but nevertheless tended to agree with him… more or less.
“So what are we doing tonight? Same thing we do every night?” he replied blandly, receiving a pair of shrugs in
response. If not for the tendency of the lockers not to close unless slammed, Andreas wouldn’t have noticed
Christos arrive and take a seat. “How ‘bout you? Got any exciting ideas on how to spend our Friday night out?”
“…We could hang out at your place?” The idea was met with approval from all but Andreas.
The ensuing silence was broken by a rather high-pitched “ANDREA!” erupting from a petite girl approaching him.
The freckles were the only exterior characteristic possibly giving her away as a foreigner. With her California tan,
she would fit right in if not for her general oddness. “There’s an Art exhibit on death downtown!” He sat up
straight. “Interested?”
He turned to the others: “Whaddaya say, guys? Wanna go?”
“Where is it?” inquired Christos.
“Near Faneromeni square.”
The boys, sans Andreas, glanced at each other and nodded, at which point the girl excitedly walked away.
“You can go to the exhibit. We’ll sit at the nearby café,” Giorgos proposed, and after the various following sounds
of agreement, added “Why do you hang out with Sandra again?”
“She has a certain… je-ne-sais-quoi.”
“Oh.” The three exchanged blank looks. “Whatever.” They were not the kind to want to learn a foreign language in
a hurry.
Certain universal ‘laws’ tend to affect people’s lives. One such law is karma. Another example would be the law
that whatever time Andreas arrives somewhere, he’s always early. Getting off the bus at Solomou Square a quarter of an hour after the agreed time, he was still the first one there. After pausing to curse the universe for playing
this trick on him again, he decided to take some back streets so he’d get to Ledras the long way.
The street lights were dim, if at all operational. For a moment, he felt as if he was being watched; rapidly glancing
in both directions, he shoved his hands in his pockets and clenched his fists, dismissing the notion. Not long after,
however, he noticed the shadows shift as a black-hooded figure darted towards him. Instinctively he jumped
back, dodged a blow and seized the assailant’s arm.
“You almost had me there for a second, Sandra,” he exclaimed after a sigh of relief and relaxed his grip. The now
un-hooded figure could hardly contain her laughter. “You should have seen your face!”
“What are you doing back here anyway?”
“I followed you.”
“Of course.” He rolled his eyes. Chuckling, Sandra extended both arms as if showcasing the road. Andreas
shrugged and they proceeded towards their destination.
“How did you realise it was me?”
“First off, your size.” At this she looked obviously annoyed. “Secondly, you’ve got cat hair all over your hoodie.
Dead give-away.”
What Andreas failed to notice as they walked along was her scarlet footprint.
Fool.

THE CHINESE POSTMAN PROBLEM
Constantinos Demetriou 3R
Background
In the 1730s, the Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler decided to study the city of Köningsberg in Prussia. Köningsberg
was built on the banks of a river and had seven bridges which
connected the two islands to the river banks. What Euler
wanted to discover was whether it would be possible to cross
all the bridges without crossing the same bridge twice.
The Problem
A postman is seeking the shortest way (time, distance) to complete his assigned route of streets. Each street must be
crossed at least once and the postman must end up at the
same place where he began his route.
Whoever hands this puzzle correctly solved in to
Mr. Agathangelou FIRST, will receive chocolate!
