Redding Guide to Selling Reloading
DEALER RESOURCE GUIDE
Redding’s Cast Iron Foundation
All things of quality are built on a solid foundation [foun-dey-shuh n] That very word, refers to the basis on
which something stands, the support upon which all else is crafted or constructed. Only a quality foundation
will allow the building of anything which has real strength and value over time.
The foundation of the highest quality reloading tools like presses, powder
measures, case trimmers and lubrisizers is cast iron. Its high strength and
natural bearing characteristics, make it ideal for both heavy duty and high
precision tools where strength and durability as well as “rock solid” stability are
required.
Redding uses only American Cast Iron components produced by a family
owned custom foundry in Pennsylvania. The material in our castings is specific
to our proprietary formulation for the finest grain structure yielding a
combination of high strength and its ability to produce an ultra-fine machined
finish. This combination has not changed in over 40 years and while there are
less expensive possibilities from around the world, Redding products have
developed a reputation for quality and durability that we believe is worth
preserving.
We also believe in preserving American jobs of customers just like the ones in your shop today. That is why we
strive to maintain our position as a 100% American Made company by buying our raw materials and components, and by making our products here. This solid foundation represents a difference which is easy for you to
demonstrate to your customers. Share these facts as your customer looks to you for guidance in their reloading
equipment purchases and feel good knowing that you are helping to create Red, White and Blue Jobs when you
sell Redding Green Products.
Redding Competition Seating dies.
Regardless of the brand of dies your customer uses now, the addition of a Redding Competition Seating Die will
improve the overall quality of their final product. It makes a good sale and a great introduction to the Redding
product line.
More than a Micrometer…….
The Redding Competition Seating Die uses an internal
sliding sleeve that is machined just like the rifle’s chamber,
supporting the case and maintaining critical alignment of
the bullet during the seating process.
A free-floating seater supports the bullet precisely to the centerline of case. Concentricity is controlled and assured, because the entire, fully supported cartridge, with bullet aligned, then moves together inside the die body
until the contactor on the base of the micrometer seats the bullet to the desired depth.
Now about the Micrometer….
The Redding Competition Seating Die is the
ultimate upgrade for any reloader and with the
precision of its micrometer top, it is also the
easiest seating die to set up. Your customer need
only seat and measure once, then simply rotate
the micrometer to the proper setting and their
bullets are seated to the perfect depth with no trial and error as with standard dies. Moreover, the Micrometer is
repeatable allowing an exact return to the proper depth when changing from one bullet type to another.

Redding Powder Measures
Corners are not cut in our manufacturing and we remain true to a standard of excellence that is older than many
of our competitors. All of this costs a little more but delivers value to your customers far beyond the price.
Precision CNC machining and individual honing guarantee a perfect fit of the rotary drum to the frame and
internal honing of the metering chamber establishes the perfect cutting edge.
Micrometer adjustments on all Redding powder measures assure perfectly repeatable settings. Measures from
Redding form a series to properly serve the needs of your individual customers from the serious amateur to
the highest-level competitors in the world. This series concept allows specific measures to be truly optimized
for specific shooting disciplines. Broad-spectrum Redding measures like the Classic Model 3 and Competition
Model 3BR will give “outstanding” drops throughout their range but your advanced customers may well desire
more than simply “outstanding”. Specialty measures like the 10x, the BR 30 and the new LR-1000, take 50 years
of quality American know-how and specifically tune the metering chamber for key load ranges for Handgun,
Bench Rest Competition and Extreme Long Range Shooting.
Regardless of the needs and experience level of your customer, a Redding Powder Measure has been made right
for them, right here in America.
Your customer has legitimate questions when it comes to powder
measure consistency. Precision does not come easy. Fifty years of
development however has allowed Redding to offer a series of
powder measures based on the performance of a cast iron frame
with a precision ground, hard chromed rotary drum.
“The best custom ammunition in the world, will come from your customers hands using Redding equipment.”
Handloading excellence is in the details.
When the customer’s goals are measured in thousandths of
an inch, the fine detail, the small things become the critical
point in winning a match. The true performance handloader
seeks constant improvement to better do the job of creating
his or her best possible ammunition. And as a retailer you
know this to be an evolutionary process creating added sales
opportunities as your customer climbs the ladder of success.
The ability for your customer to continue to improve their
capability and performance with the accessories and
upgrades you offer coupled with the advice you give, keeps
them returning and generates added business for your store.
Redding understands your customer’s goals and continually
supports your ability to assist him or her in making them come
true. Doing so by offering a large number of the “small things”
which can and do make that tiny difference to add consistency,
tighten groups to fill their trophy rack.

Solving Problems Straight Wall Style
Advantage Redding
Redding has committed its business existence to not simply making tools to sell but to making solutions for the
problems real reloaders face. This commitment provides your customers with the innovative solutions necessary
to build the best custom straight wall ammunition available today.
Redding was the first and remains the only company to use Titanium
Carbide rather than tungsten carbide in their standard carbide sizing dies
making these far easier on your customer’s shoulder and his or her cases.
Redding engineered and produced the first true competition bullet seating
die for the most demanding straight wall case competitors and earned a US
Patent for it.
Another innovation is the revolutionary G-Rx base sizing dies for the 40
S&W case to remove the unpleasant bulge left by some current semi-auto
pistols.
Redding’s latest Patent application is for the family Dual Ring Carbide Sizing dies introduced in 2011 and
expanded in 2012 at the SHOT Show to now include 38 Special and 44 Special.
While your customers may quickly think of Redding for their
precision long range and bench rest competition needs, be sure
to remind them that they can have the same level of performance
and precision in their “straight wall”
competitive arsenal as well.
Knurling Diamonds
Diamond knurling is a manufacturing process, typically conducted on lathes or turning machines, whereby a
visually attractive diamond-shaped (criss-cross) pattern is cut or rolled into metal. (Wikipedia)
Although attractive its intended purpose is to allow for a greater grip on a surface, which is to be turned by hand.
Knurls show up in a variety of places on Redding Dies and Shellholders and on our Micrometers, Competition Dies, Powder Measures and Trimmers. The reason for this is that anything which
needs to be turned with precision, is best turned by hand and not
with tools. Additionally, turning anything is most precise when
the fingers have a firm purchase on that part being turned.
Adjusting the dies, micrometers, lock rings, seat plugs, decap rod
assemblies, expanders, and then locking them home, in precise
position is significantly benefited by the knurled surfaces on each
Redding part. Yes, this is an added step to our manufacturing
process but so is our commitment to hand polishing and bluing of
critical parts as well.
Redding’s goal has always been to build the best possible
product for your customers, never loosing track of the need for
both precision and the critical aspect known as “ease of use”. We look
at all of these steps as not only necessary to maintain the highest level
of performance but also so that you may confidently recommend
Redding for your customer’s needs.
Competition Shell Holder Set
It is the small things which make greatness. Our extensive use of knurling to allow the hand, and not a tool to do
the precise work, is a feature your customers will quickly appreciate.

Spring Profit Upgrades Made Easy
Last issue’s Competetion Seater “how to” highlighted the precision bullet seating concept at
the highest level. But what about the thousands and thousands of seating dies that exist on the
loading benches of your current customers, and how you can
upgrade their convenience and capability while increasing
your profits this Spring.
Redding just introduced new replacement Bullet
Seating Micrometers at, the SHOT Show in
January. These are direct replacements for
the current seat plugs in the thousands of
existing seating dies made over the past 40
plus years. With Varmint season coming soon, these represent an easy to explain,
easy to sell, upgrade with real benefits to your customer’s precision reloading
capability. Moreover many Redding Dies use the same seat plug number allowing one new Bullet Seating Micrometer to work on multiple die sets. This lowers
the apparent cost to your consumer as he or she can spread the cost of one Bullet
Seating Micrometer over multiple die sets.
They are available for both STD and VLD bullet styles and are offered for 90% of
current Redding dies in rifle calibers and other seating dies which use a 1-2” x 20
TPI thread.
Finally, the pricing is such that with the CSSI Redding ND-4 dealer program, new
and existing dealers can realize an outstanding profit margin on the sales.

Weighing the differences
Redding #2 Scale
There are a host of scale technologies
which all have advantages and disadvantages. Redding’s first ever product
was a powder and bullet scale and the
company still prides itself on precision, maintaining a classic scale that
is still hand calibrated to provide consistent accuracy and reliability over
a lifetime. All balance beam scales
have a set of matching pointers for
their zero, which provide an accurate
zero, presuming the scale is correctly designed and manufactured.
The Redding # 2 Scale has five additional lines above and below the “O” line, which are precise 1/10th grain
markers. With a Redding scale your customer knows exactly how far over or under each charge truly is.
Demonstration is a powerful sales tool and this product stands out when used. As a test, zero a scale for your
customer and move the small counterpoise 1/10th of a grain. The corresponding change will show on the other
end of the beam. Now try it with 3/10th of a grain and see the pointer move again to the “–3/10ths” position.
Your customers will appreciate this feature, as this speeds the loading process and allows the customer to be assured that his or her variances fall within safe limits for the cartridge they are loading. This is particularly valuable when a customer is weighing each charge from a powder measure as a check when nearing max loads. This
unique ability is accomplished by calibrating the weights and the pan hook assembly to each individual scale, one
at a time, and by hand.
The latest electronic technology may seem to have some benefits, however beam type scales remain the reference
standard world wide for science and industry. With over 65 years of scale making experience and the skill of
dedicated American craftsmen, the Redding scales scale stand apart from all other scales offered today.
