September 2015 - Rocky Mountain Conference
September 2015
Here it is, September….
The kids are back in school
and unbelievably, there have
even been days when it felt
good to wear a sweater in the
morning…
Summer winds down, the
garden is bursting with
tomatoes that need canned,
zucchini that can only be used
300 ways before everyone is
sick of it, and plants that are
weary of producing…. (And
hey, King Soopers has corn 6
for a dollar!) Cutesy signs
saying “Happy Fall, Y’all!”
show up even at the grocery
store. We gear up for the
new season of Pumpkin Spice
everything…
And for some of us…there
is a brisk uneasy.
What’s next? Where is my
place, what is my calling? We
wrap the sweater tightly
around ourselves as we walk
in the briskness, wondering.
And then we step on a
lego, or spill that pumpkinspice drink on the carpet, or
run out of zip-loc freezer bags
at the least opportune
moment. And we’re jolted
back to reality. The reality of
the present ministry to which
we’re called.
There isn’t anything
glamorous about most of our
lives – those everyday lives of
God’s girls. We do what we
have to do, and often wonder
if it’s enough.
Jesus has a word for our
autumn uneasy! It’s found in
1
Luke 10:2 – “There’s a great
harvest waiting in the field,
but there aren’t many good
workers to harvest it!”
Maybe we need to
reframe our questions in light
of this scripture! “God – can
You please show me today
how to be a faithful worker
right where I am? Open up a
way for me to take in Your
harvest!”
Hey, can you share some
tomatoes or zucchini with
someone new, or make some
cookies for the lego-leavers,
or pick up a pumpkin-spice
candle for someone who
might need a little courage?
Take off the sweater,
girlfriend, the Son’s warm!
Don’t forget to sign up
right away for Garden
Getaway retreat! In Every
season – He’s got this!
