Community
Banks to
Better Serve
Rural Areas
WASHINGTON, D.C.
– U.S. Senators Roy Blunt
(Mo.) and Mike Rounds
(S.D.) introduced legislation this week to support
and strengthen lending in
local communities. The
Community Bank Access
to Capital Act of 2015
would roll back burdensome financial regulations to make it easier
for community banks to
serve their customers,
who often reside in rural
areas with fewer lending
options.
“Community
banks

are an integral part of
Missouri’s economy and
the communities they
serve,” Blunt said. “These
banks often are the primary lenders to small businesses and farmers across
the state. The Community
Bank Access to Capital
Act of 2015 gives our local
banks relief from burdensome financial regulations,
allowing them to better
serve and meet the needs
of local businesses which
will lead to investment
and economic growth in
communities in Missouri
and nationwide.”
The Community Bank
Access to Capital Act of
2015 would:
* exempt community
banks with $50 billion or
less in assets from the Basel III capital rules;
* increase the Small
Bank Holding Company
Policy Statement qualifying asset threshold from
$1 billion to $5 billion;
* exempt publicly held
community banks with
less than $1 billion in assets from the Sarbanes-Oxley Act’s internal control
attestation requirements;
* allow savings and
loan holding companies
to use the Securities and
Exchange Commission’s
new deregistration and
registration
thresholds;
and
* preserve current Securities and Exchange Commission rules regarding
the definition of “accredited investor.”
Earlier this year, the
Community Bank Access
to Capital Act of 2015 was
introduced in the U.S.
House of Representatives
by Scott Garrett (N.J.),
Chairman of the House
Subcommittee on Capital
Markets and GovernmentSponsored Enterprises.

Friends it is time for Cowboy Church at the Blue
Mound Cowboy Church Aug. 9. If you have missed
coming, get on your horse, start you pickup, car or motorcycle and come early, the music starts between 6:30
and 7 a.m. You will have many messages in song with
a great group. Richard Colliver always brings a great
message that you can relate to, you should know your
Lord if you are following Satan. A bountiful breakfast
will follow the worship service. Don’t forget to come
early and have a blessed day.
Mark Sept. 5 at 7 p.m., Walter Plant will be at the Blue
Mound Church for a program. Walter is a blind musician and has a very good voice. Come and enjoy.
Two former residents passed away recently. Lendol
Copple, he attended the Rea School in his early years.
Mary Copple Barron, the mother of Anthony Barron,
passed away in Kansas City.
A huge rattlesnake was sighted crossing the road
recently headed toward Jesse Coldiron’s home. He
looked over four feet long and was as large as my arm.
Really looked big and mighty. Everyone in our area better watch their feet. I recently smelled an odor I couldn’t
detect and thinking back I believe it was a rattlesnake.
It was way back in the pasture. I never saw anything,
just smelled it.
Friends please call me with your news as I don’t have
much to write about and people do like to know what’s
going on.
The most I can do for my friend is simply be his
friend.

Westview Apartment complex has a new sign.
Busy times at the Westview Apartment complex.
Renovations and
refurbishments have been
under way ever since the
acquisition of the complex
by Joe Roberts of Springfield. A walk-through of
a newly refurbished unit
revealed new appliances,
new flooring a built-in
air conditioner as well as
all freshly painted walls
and ceilings. In celebration (and just for the fun
of it) Joe Roberts and his
assistant Frieda Wiley of
Cowgill hosted a cookout for the residents and
friends on Saturday. As
the cook attended the fire,
people gathered at tables
in the shade to chat and
laugh while the children
enjoyed playtime before
the cutting of the watermelon signaled the end of
the day. A good time was
had by all.
It’s almost time for
school to start and resitration times have been
announced as follows:
on Wednesday, Aug. 5,
seniors and juniors will
register from 8:30 to 9:30;
sophomores 9:30 to 10:30;
freshmen 10:30 to 11:30;
eighth grade noon to 1 pm
and seventh grade 1:00 to
2: pm. Parents wishing to
enroll pre-school students
may contact Mrs. Toot at
the school 644-5715. Open
House will be held August 17th from 5 to 6 pm.
A good time for students
and parents to bring in
supplies, scope out the
surroundings and get acquainted with new teachers. August 19th is the
first day of the 2015-2016
school year! Let the academic learning begin!
Bus stops will be E Oak
and Tenth, E Main and
Tenth (Baptist Church), W
Main and Sixth (Methodist Church) and W Broadway and Fourth.
Breckenridge residents enjoy a cookout hosted by Joe Roberts and Freida Wiley.

Elizabeth Ann Sheetz
Elizabeth Ann “Bessie” (Lewis) Sheetz, age 98,
daughter of David Roderick and Nellie A. (Heare) Lewis was born June 30, 1917 in Livingston County, Dawn,
MO, and passed July 24, 2015 at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer. At an early age she joined the
Bethany Baptist Church. She graduated from Johnson
School in Livingston County.
On May 15, 1940, she was married to Andrew E.
Sheetz. They were the parents of a son, Ronald David,
and a daughter, Beverly Ann (Sheetz) Collier.
Bessie lived most of her youth in the Dawn area and
her married life was on the farms in and around Braymer. After Andrew’s death, Oak Tree Square became
her home for 18 years and then the Golden Age Nursing
Home until her death.
Bessie was always busy. Besides performing the
tasks of a farmer’s wife, she was a lunchroom cook at
Braymer C-4 School and retired after 35 years of service.
In the summers she worked at Tommy’s Café and the
drive-in. Gardening, canning and making quilts were
her favorite pastimes. She will be remembered by her
family and friends for her loving, caring, hard work and
willing to give and help those around her. The children
and grandchildren will forever remember the homemade hot rolls that was a specialty served at the family
gatherings.
Social clubs and contacts were always a part of her
life. She was a member of the Catawba Club, Tobin Valley Club, Red Hat Club, and former member of the Eastern Star. Playing Skip Bo at Oak Tree and afternoon coffee with the ladies at the restaurant kept her informed
of the local news.
Bessie was proud of Braymer and the people who
made it the “Biggest Little Town in MO.” One of her
most memorable moments came when she was called
to be Grand Marshall of the 2007 Homecoming Parade,
in the year of her 90th birthday. She never dreamed of
this but was so honored.
We mourn our loss but rejoice to have shared so
many years with such a beautiful, fine lady. May her
spirit continue to remain in our hearts.
Bessie was preceded in death by her husband Andrew “Shorty” and son, Ronnie. Bessie’s parents and
seven Lewis brothers also preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly (Sheetz)
Collier and son-in-law Larry of Sugar Land, TX; daughter-in-law, Dixie (Climer-Sheetz) Flamm of Cameron;
five grandchildren, Brad (Hydi) Sheetz of Winston, Tricia (Rob) Bozarth of Pattonsburg, Preston (Stephanie)
Sheetz of Cameron, Jerrod (Laura) Collier of Lindenhurst, IL, and Nichole (Kent) Smith of Natrona Heights,
PA; fourteen great-grandchildren, Meagan, Andrew,
Tanleigh, Bristol, Reiann Sheetz; Martika (Matt) (Sheetz)
Kissick; Trevor and Dillon Ott; MacKinzie Street, Austin
Sheetz; Katelyn and Kirsten Smith; Joshua and Marilee
Collier; six great great-grandchilren, Faith Burnette,
Khloe Ott, Grant, Quentyn and Maci Sheetz, and Daxton Sheetz.
Others who will remember her as Aunt Bessie are
Eva Nelle, John, Betty Ann, Marie from the Lewis family and Bill, Bob, Gene, Carol, Judy, Laura, Barbara,
Vernon, Erma, Martha, Marcia, Andrea, Sonny, Maxine,
and Russell from the Sheetz family.
Funeral services for Elizabeth were held on July 27,
2015, at the Pitts Funeral Home. Bob Vermillion officiated and Andy Derrickson sang “In the Garden” and
“How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Brad Sheetz,
Preston Sheetz, Jerrod Collier, Drew Sheetz, Trevor Ott,
Dillon Ott, and Austin Sheetz. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Braymer under the direction of the
Pitts Funeral Home.

Gary and Kathy Wright of Braymer enjoyed a vacation to the Southwest this summer. They visited the Oklahoma National Museum and Memorial dedicated to the victims of the bombing in Oklahoma city. They then visited
Santa Fe, New Mexico where they toured the Loretto chaple. The story is the sister’s prayers were answered when
a carpenter arrived riding a donkey to build a staircase to the choir loft. From there they visited the Painted Desert
and Petrified Forest then headed to Williams, AZ., the end of Route 66. Next they visited the Grand Canyon. From
there they went to Mesa Verde National Park cliff dwellings. Before coming home they went to Manitou Springs,
CO to see the Garden of the Gods. Gary and Kathy reported a great time.

properties and what to do. The
city attorney suggested using
Chapter 41 before condemning.
The city would also like to put
liens on the properties that the
city mows. A letter will be sent
to a property owner requesting
their presence at court for the
property which has animals
running in and out.
Under new business, Clerk
Mallory informed the council
that the citizens in town could
call the Cameron Shopper at
816-632-6543 to have the shopper stopped from being thrown
in their drive.
The council discussed buying water at the water plant.
The council voted to keep the
water plant locked at all times
and only allow employees in
the plant.

Christenson and they are to
send someone to look at it. If
it was a part from the previous

they could try but didn’t know
how good it would work.
Braymer Police Chief Kehl

would like for him to be working on.
Code Enforcer Andrew Pratt
let the council know who he

out 14 letters. Some have complied with the letters, others
will be getting tickets or summoned to court. There is a junk

Preparing for the Missouri Gas & Steam Engine Show
Kendall Morgan driving the Farmall with Bob Blades riding shotgun on the power binder pulling out large weeds
among the oats being fed along the belt.
Long before the Missouri Gas
& Steam Engine show is scheduled to begin, preparations are
already underway. On a field
owned by Walker’s, members
of the Gas & Steam Engine
Association have gathered to
bind oats using an antique
McCormick Deering binder.
After an hour of hookups and
adjustments, the old machine
was ready to go. Tall weeds
seemed to be a major deterrent
in the machine’s ability to cut
and feed the oats through the
belt. Men walking behind the
machine were ready to stack
bundles of oats the machine
tied and spit out the side. The
bundles would later be hauled
by wagon to the steam engine
grounds to be threshed during
the show in August. Those who
came to enjoy in the fun were
Rusty Baker, Mark Morgan,
Larry Atkinson, Brent Henry,
Randy Smith, Darrin Lund,
Bob Blades, John Blades, Kendall Morgan and Bennett Carter.

Become a Master
Gardener
Source: David Trinklein, 573-8829631
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Sharing is at the heart of the Master
Gardener program.
Gardening brings joy as you
fill your world with growing
things, says David Trinklein,
horticulture specialist for University of Missouri Extension.
It also allows you share your
joy with others.
“Master Gardeners embrace
helping others learn to grow,”
Trinklein said.
In the past, those interested
in becoming a Master Gardener
had to attend weeks of classes.
But traveling to a bricks-andmortar classroom is not convenient for everyone. So online
classes were born.
“Not as a substitute for faceto-face, but it is an option for
those who find it difficult to
make it to face-to-face classes,”
Trinklein said.
Using the online learning
software Moodle as a platform,
classes are delivered as a series
of scripted and narrated PowerPoint presentations.

Notice of Tax
Certificate
Sale
August 24,
2015
The following is a publication of land and lots
in Caldwell County, Missouri, upon which Tax
Certificates are to be offered for sale at the front
door of the Courthouse
in Kingston, Missouri, on
August 24, 2015 at 10:00
a.m. I will offer properties
in Breckenridge, Gomer,
Hamilton, Kidder, Mirabile, Kingson, Davis, Lincoln, Grant Townships until all properties indicated
by the publication have
been offered for sale, according to the provisions
of Section 140.170R.S. of
Missouri 1978. The County Collector has a separate
list of lots in Hideaway
Lakes. The names of owners and legal description will be posted in the
Courthouse in Kingston.
The land or lots are
to be sold under the description as listed and the
amounts as shown due
for each year represent
the total amount of taxes,
interest and costs, but not
including the cost of this
sale, which will be twenty-five cents more than
the amount shown, and a
certificate will be issued
covering as much of said
land and lots as necessary
to discharge the amount of
taxes, interest and charges
which are due thereon at
the time of the sale.
Land or lots offered for
sale the first, second and
third years must bring the
total amount of taxes, interest and costs.
A tax sale certificate
does not mean you have
a clear title and anyone
purchasing must do a title
search on each property
before a collector’s deed is
issued.
Also, anyone wanting to purchase a listed
property must sign an affidavit in the collector’s
office stating they do not
owe any delinquent taxes.
A non-resident must have
an appointed agent filed
with the County Clerk.
Land and lots to be offered are as follows:

This week’s yummy recipe is Taco Chicken. It’s so good and easy to make ahead

Cold-Blooded Murder
Fellow Americans,
Cold-blooded murder. That’s what abortion is, plain and simple. I have been silent for too long regarding abortion. Sadly, so have most Americans. Each baby’s unalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is violated when the baby
is murdered in the womb. The following is a brief history of the origin and purpose
of America’s tax-funded murder factory called Planned Parenthood.
Margaret Sanger was an American birth control activist who opened the first birth
control clinic in Brooklyn, New York in 1916. She established the American Birth
Control League in 1921, which evolved into the Planned Parenthood Federation of
America in 1942. Here are some quotes attributed to her:
•
“The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill
it."
•
"Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race."
•
"We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.”
•
"Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated."
•
“Eugenic sterilization is an urgent need ... We must prevent multiplication of this bad
stock."
•
"Eugenics is the most adequate and thorough avenue to the solution of racial, political and social problems.”
•
“The undeniably feeble-minded should, indeed, not only be discouraged but prevented from propagating their kind."
Margaret Sanger and her group of social elites believed they should control the
size, sex, race, and intelligence of the general population. If you were poor, retarded,
disabled, diseased, or a racial minority, you were forced to live in labor camps, sterilized, or murdered! That sounds eerily similar to Adolph Hitler to me! Here are the
2014 Planned Parenthood stats:
•
Over 327,653 babies murdered
•
37 murders per hour
•
1 murder every 90 seconds
•
Received $528 million from taxpayers, which comprised 41% of their budget
•
Some funding is generated from the sale of murdered babies’ tissue and body parts
•
392 murders for 1 adoption
Since the Supreme Court ruled abortion is legal, it must be okay, right? WRONG!
Murder is immoral and God will hold us accountable in the end. We must do all we
can to expose and stop this heinous activity. Go to www.lifenews.com and www.
cnsnews.com to learn more. May God Bless you and the United States of America!

The first old-age pension checks are to go out Nov. 1 but the law does not promise
a flat $30 monthly to all. The man who lives in the country and has a few pigs and
chickens will only receive $7 or $8 a month, where a man in the city will receive $30
or enough to live on in fairly comfortable circumstances.
