TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Guided visit to Catherine Palace.
The city that was once the capital of Russia during the time
of the Czars is surrounded by many palaces. Outing (visit
with guide and admission) to CATHERINE PALACE in
Pushkin, about 25 km from the centre of St Petersburg, the
official residence of the Czars. The enormous, impressive
Baroque-style palace has magnificent fountains and
gardens. Return to St Petersburg. Free afternoon. 03 TUES. St Petersburg.TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Guided visit to Peter and Paul
Fortress and the Hermitage Museum.

TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: City tour of Suzdal and its Kremlin.

In the morning, we visit SUZDAL, which many consider the
most attractive of all the Golden Ring cities. The city looks
like a fairy-tale city, with its canals, flowers and domes that
stand out against the horizon. Tour of the city with a local
guide and admission to the Kremlin and the cathedral. In
St Eugene’s Monastery we will listen to a bell concert. We
also pay a visit to the Museum of Wooden Architecture,
which shows the old way of life of the peasants, who lived in
wooden houses, mills and the Church of the Transfiguration.
Lunch is included. Afterwards, we travel to VLADIMIR,
where we visit the majestic Assumption Cathedral. Then we
go on to MOSCOW, where we arrive in the late afternoon.
07 SAT. Moscow.-
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: City tour of Moscow. Visit included
to its Kremlin and two important cathedrals.
Our journey begins with an exciting visit to the enormous
Russian capital, a city that combines past, present and
future like no other. We will stroll along its wide avenues,
visit its elegant shopping areas, see the Red Square and
Lenin’s Mausoleum, St Basil’s Cathedral and the Cathedral
of Christ the Saviour. Includes a visit to the Kremlin and
its two most important cathedrals. We will try to make
the visit coincide with the ceremonial military parade held
in Sobornaya Square (but we cannot guarantee this). Free
time in the afternoon.
08 SUN. Moscow.-
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Kolomenskoye to attend a
traditional Russian wedding ceremony.
We set out for NOVGOROD, the exciting city that was
one of the most important cultural and political centres
in Russia. We will visit the Kremlin (visit with guide
and admission included), the old market quarter and
Yaroslav’s court. Lunch included. We continue our journey
to VALDAY, a pretty town near a lake: visit to the old
monastery on the island in the lake. Then we continue to
TVER. Supper included.
In an attempt to examine the Russian soul in depth, this
morning, we will go on an outing to Kolomenskoye, an
ancient Czar residence: here we will attend a traditional
Russian wedding ceremony. On the way, we pass by the
University Viewpoint, which has a fantastic view of the city,
where newly-weds leave flowers. (Visitors can also go to the
viewpoint during the visit on Saturday). Free afternoon.
05 THUR. Tver- Sergei Posad-Suzdal.-
09 MON. Moscow.-
TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Tver and the Volga. Sergiev Posad
and the Holy Trinity Monastery. Lunch Included. Along the
golden Ring Cities. Suzdal. Supper included.
We visit TVER. This city, set on the banks of the Volga, was
the centre of a tiny state and the main rival of Moscow. Then
we pay a visit to some of the GOLDEN RING cities. After a
brief stop in KLIN where the house of the great composer
Tchaikovsky is located, we carry on to SERGIEV POSAD,
and visit the Holy Trinity Monastery, considered the most
important spiritual centre of Russia. We will also see how
the famous Matryoshka nesting dolls are made and painted.
You can try your hand at painting them. Lunch included. In
the afternoon we travel along tiny roads through different
historical Golden Ring cities: ALEKSHANDROV (and the
Kremlin of Ivan the Terrible) and YURYEV POLSKIY, a tiny
provincial city with a historical Kremlin. Then we carry on to
SUZDAL. Supper included. During supper, a folklore group
will play their balalaikas (not included if there are fewer than 15
people in the group).
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and end of our
services.
