This one night would have the potential to not only showcase a world-class children’s museum, but to raise support for MCM’s educational initiatives, bring local restaurants together for friendly competition, and provide mini-reunions for old friends and classmates alike. “Neon Nights was so much fun!” said Lisa McMurtray, an attendee of the event. “The band (and their costumes) was great, the food was delicious, and the museum was, as always, ready for a party. I especially enjoyed the local drinks from The Manship, Fondren Public, and Iron Horse Grill.” The scent of fresh quesadillas and gourmet, gooey burgers pervaded the museum from the museum’s perimeter and low lights set the scene aglow. Friends danced to 90’s Country tunes from Mustache the Band in the atrium with neon accents and newly acquired items won from the raffle. “What is so great about Neon Nights is the way it brings the community together—from Jackson food trucks and restaurants 1 | MISSISSIPPI CHILDREN’S MUSEUM | AUGUST 2016 PLAY-BY-PLAY SUMMER SUCCESS Fundraiser Camps & Outreach Fundraiser for the Mississippi children’s museum Purchase Tickets at Mschildrensmuseum.org Saturday, July 23, 2016 to local music and spaces, the Mississippi Children’s Museum always brings people together to have a good time,” said McMurtray. Despite the weather, groups were able to play, socialize, and dance until nearly the midnight hour. After all is said and done, a magnificent feat was accomplished. Neon Nights still lit up the night rain or shine. Soon Thomas & Friends™: Explore the Rails will be packing up and moving out to make a stop at the next museum on its tour. The busy summer season is slowly settling down, but MCM is already gearing up for a new school year and a busy fall ahead with new events, outreach, and more. During September 12-14, MCM will have our annual Fall Fix-Up dedicated to painting, repairing, and reviving the museum. With an average of 500 guests per day each summer, nearly 200,000 guests each year, and 40,000 square feet of exhibit space, that’s a lot of numbers—and that’s a lot of children planting, performing, and playing in the museum. To accomplish this task, MCM needs YOUR help! Since the museum will be closed during this week, we ask for volunteer support to make sure the museum is in tip-top shape for the fall season. All corporate and community volunteers are needed to lend a helping hand.
