2011 Spring Seminar - Presented by the North Olympic Chapter “Taming the Wild Loxodrome” with Richard Dieckmann, Cadastral Surveyor Oregon State Office, BLM Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Express Conference Center, Sequim, WA Retracing cadastral surveys would be much simpler if only the earth were flat—but it isn’t—this is one reason why the Public Land Survey System surveys were designed from the beginning to conform with curved surface of the earth. And, while plane surveying techniques can be and are used to locate existent PLSS corners, problems arise when plane coordinate geometry is used to calculate positions of lost PLSS corners as prescribed in the Manual of Surveying Instructions. At this seminar, attendees can expect to learn… • • • • …how geodetic based surveys differ from plane based surveys …pitfalls to avoid when applying plane surveying computations to the solution of astro-geodetic based PLSS corner restoration computations …how computer software can be used to solve various PLSS restoration problems and provide astro-geodetically correct solutions …about current and future software platforms for PLSS restoration computations For accommodations, contact: • • • • Seminar Registration Desk opens at 7:30 AM Seminar begins at 8:30AM Lunch (on your own), 12:00 – 1:00 Seminar ends 4:30PM Name:______________________________________ E-Mail: _____________________________________ Registration acknowledgement will be via e-mail ONLY. In CMM/GMM, I recommend turning off the unknown corner symbol, control symbol, error ellipses, and elevation text. These just clutter up the drawing. For certain things you might want to leave them on. 2. In AutoCAD, open the DXF file created in step 1. 3. List a point and a point ID and figure out what layers they are on. Remember this. 4. I recommend using the CHANGE command, selecting everything in your drawing, and changing the “Properties” to move all of the points to the average elevation of your project. 5. Run the following CAPD commands in this order (Always turn off OSNAPS before running these commands!!!): GETPRO - Sets up your projection information. Should be same as CMM CADINIT - Sets up default layer, font, and line type info. GEOPREFS - Turn on the “Prompt for Point ID” option MVNAMES - Moves insert point of point id to the point REPIPG - Replaces the text point id with an IDGEO block CHGSL - Select all the new points (just type ALL if you don’t have a bunch of other text) and then change the style to V100 or something else that you can see, you will now be able to read the point id’s. 6. You may now use CAPD commands such as ITRAV, TRAV, etc. to begin and end at the correct points according to point id. You will have an option designated with the # symbol on the prompts for selecting beginning and ending points. Enter the # and you will then be prompted for Point ID. 7. It is recommended that you change to a layer separate from the points or text etc. (you can make a new one if you want to), before drawing lines. Once you have drawn the lines you may freeze the layers with points and point id’s. If you want to keep the point id’s visible that you have drawn you lines to, you will need to put them on a separate layer. 8. You can change the size of the lettering associated with the point id by using the CHGSL command. This will also change the layer they are on if desired. ***This is just a brief outline to get you started. You can download the latest routines off the internet at http://www.blm.gov/narsc/lisp/ Setting up OR/WA CAPD This document is to show and test the installation of the CAPD folders into AutoCAD 2008. It will show how to point AutoCAD to the right Cadastral Automated Plat Drafting folders, as well as adding all the necessary AutoLISP routines. Go to S:\957\CAD PLATS\AutoCAD_drafting_tools and standards Copy both the CAPD_OR-WA & CAPD-National-version2006-March folders into your c:\tmp folder. Open AutoCAD On the AutoCAD menubar under Tools, at the very bottom of this dropdown you will find Options. Select it. Select the Files tab. pg1 5/27/2011 9:05:59 AM Page 1 of 10 Setting_Up_CAPD_OR-WA_AutoCAD2008.doc Open the Support File Search Path. (You are going to add 11 paths to this area.) Click the Add button You will get this box, then click Browse Drill down until you get to C:\tmp\CAPD_OR-WA\base0001_std_sym folder…. The browse box looks like this: Then select OK You will need to repeat this procedure 10 more times -Add the C:\tmp\ CAPD_OR-WA\bmp folder pg2 5/27/2011 9:05:59 AM Page 2 of 10 Setting_Up_CAPD_OR-WA_AutoCAD2008.doc Add the C:\tmp\ CAPD_OR-WA\scr folder Add the C:\tmp\ CAPD_OR-WA\slide folder Add the C:\tmp\ CAPD_OR-WA\support folder Add the C:\tmp\CAPD-National-version2006-March\dosdcl folder Add the C:\tmp\CAPD-National-version2006-March\dosdwg folder Add the C:\tmp\CAPD-National-version2006-March\dosscr folder Add the C:\tmp\CAPD-National-version2006-March\dosshp folder Add the C:\tmp\CAPD-National-version2006-March\dostxt folder Add the C:\tmp\CAPD-National-version2006-March\menu_bmp folder This is what you are looking for when all 11 folders are added Select Apply Leave the Options menu open but close the Support File Search Path folder. pg3 5/27/2011 9:05:59 AM Page 3 of 10 Setting_Up_CAPD_OR-WA_AutoCAD2008.doc The BLM standard for fonts is Leroy font style. These 5 .shx files are located in the CAPD_OR-WA\fonts …. All 5 of these files will need to be copied into the Support folder, it is located at…... C:\Documents and Settings\*YOUR-USER-ID*\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2008\R17.1\enu\Support Your “user-id” should be here. Here you can see the LER.SHX file. pg4 5/27/2011 9:05:59 AM Page 4 of 10 Setting_Up_CAPD_OR-WA_AutoCAD2008.doc Now open the Printer Support File Path file. Open the Plot Style Table Search Path Highlight this area and click Browse. On the command line, type CUILOAD and the Load/Unload Customizations window should pop up as seen below here: Browse to C:\tmp\CAPD_OR-WA\menu pg6 5/27/2011 9:05:59 AM Page 6 of 10 Setting_Up_CAPD_OR-WA_AutoCAD2008.doc Select the PLAT_2008-Jan.cui Click Open Click the Load button This should place all the toolbars on your AutoCAD screen so you can dock them later. You may notice duplicate buttons. This is so users can customize their setup to their preference. Now, time for loading the AutoLISP routines… On the command line, type APPLOAD…. pg7 5/27/2011 9:05:59 AM Page 7 of 10 Setting_Up_CAPD_OR-WA_AutoCAD2008.doc Browse to the C:\tmp\CAPD-National-version2006-March\doslsp folder. You will need to select 3 columns of the .lsp files to load at a time. This picture shows the 3 columns mark. Click Load to load the selected files. Repeat this 8 more times to load all the .lsp files found here. Now browse to the C:\tmp\CAPD_OR-WA\lisp folder. You will need to repeat the same loading procedure as the above and load all the .lsp files found here in this folder. Click the Contents When all the AutoLISP routines are fully loaded, the Startup Suite contents need to be added. pg8 5/27/2011 9:05:59 AM Page 8 of 10 Setting_Up_CAPD_OR-WA_AutoCAD2008.doc Repeat similar steps with the AutoLISP routines again, this time with the Startup Suite This area will be blank on most screens Click Add Browse to the C:\tmp\CAPD-National-version2006-March\doslsp again. Do the same as you did above by selecting 3 columns of the .lsp files at a time, then click Add. Keep adding until you have added all the .lsp files found in here. pg9 5/27/2011 9:05:59 AM Page 9 of 10 Setting_Up_CAPD_OR-WA_AutoCAD2008.doc Now browse to the C:\tmp\CAPD_OR-WA\lisp folder. Select all the .lsp files found here in this folder and click Add When you are finished adding all the .lsp files to the Startup Suite, then Close both windows. You can now take the time to dock the toolbars anyway you wish. Get rid of the ones you feel you do not need. Your AutoCAD now may look somewhat like this after the toolbars are docked. pg10 5/27/2011 9:05:59 AM Page 10 of 10 Setting_Up_CAPD_OR-WA_AutoCAD2008.doc Tangent Plane Coordinate projection RHCMM State Plane Coordinate file (NEZ) to TDS foresight and on to Nomad Survey pro. Quasi local tangent plan coordinates. Compute and display in True Bearings and project/ground dist. The following steps are for importing CMM State plane Coordinate files into TDS nomad SurveyPRO using TDS foresight DXM. By design, TDS applications have any number of ways to get to the same solution. This is just one way to accomplish this. Once a user is familiar with the application they may find a more efficient process. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(STEP 1) Export CMM Coordinate data to a file for TDS DXM In CMM project File Export Export Northing, Easting, elevation, (.NEZ) ** Browse to cmm_project .Def Open OK ( .nez file created in cmm_project folder) ** or “user defined export” project.csv --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(STEP 2) Set up “project” in TDS Foresight DXM Start Foresight DXM. Start TDS survey works Foresight DXM Create Project DXM project Browse to and name “name.pro” In plan view Project Project settings -vitals (to expand point Id field) MAX objects = 1,000,000 MAX alpha = 1,000 OK Project Projection setting (left plan), no projection ( ) use a projections (don’t check the box, no projection) CLOSE Note; it is best to start “new project” for each Cadastral group. You can have muliti “jobs” in a project and import CMM project data regularly for a rapid export to nomad TDS, by returning to step 3. All these project settings will remain default for this project for additional/ new exports from CMM and it will “X overwrite all existing point with the same name” for a quick export to the nomad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(STEP 3) Import CMM Coordinate data file for TDS DXM In Foresight DXM, project name.pro File Import ASCII (txt, ect) Browse to CMM_project.nez file Open Specify character separation X .commas Next Specify coordinate data value column . . Point name, northing, easting, elevation Next Point Name Option X .overwrite all existing point with the same name OK Finish overwrite Review the transfer list for completeness………all points? Note; at this point, this TDS Foresight project data precisely matches your CMM project (grid coordinates). All these project settings will remain default for this project for additional/ new exports from CMM and it will “X overwrite all existing point with the same name” for a quick export to the nomad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (STEP 4) Scale and Rotate Coordinate data in TDS DXM, (will resemble local tangent plane coordinates) In Foresight DXM, project name.pro Adjustment Translate/rotate/scale In the left pane (adjustments) Select objects Select All Scale Reference location >..User - defined >..point (point ID) * near project center ** Northing (“scale factor”) from CMM or Corpscon ** Easting (“scale factor”) from CMM or Corpscon ** NOTE: inverse of Combined Factor gives better results SCALE * click once only Rotate Rotation Angel >..point (point ID) * near project center >..Simple ..dd.mmss “convergence” or “grid rotation” from CMM or Corpscon ROTATE CLOSE Note; most of these project settings will remain default for this project for additional/ new exports from CMM and it will “X overwrite all existing point with the same name” for a quick export to the nomad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(STEP 5) Import DXM/CMM Coordinate data file to TDS nomad In Foresight DXM, project name.pro, Plan view ( with Namad connected to PC and powered up) Transfer Create job for data collator Transfer settings Windows CE (ranger, recon) Active Sync Surveypro CE V3.5 or later OK In left pane (create job for Data collector) Select objects Select all Job name Name XnameX Next Set remote folder (Survey Pro Jobs) SEND SEND CLOSE File Save project Your complete CMM project data is now in the TDS nomad survey pro. The project is in a local tangent plane projection and all computation and display in near to True Bearing and Project/Ground Distance. This is a “Quasi” PLSS datum/projection. Validation with a one section project, comparing lines one mile in length, the bearings were Less than 20” of true and distances were Less than .20 ft. of true ground. For Larger projects, it would be prudent to “Rotate and Scale” near the current project work. The closer to the origin of the rotation and scale and the shorter lines, the truer the data… ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
