COMMUNITY OUTREACH
On May 21, I gave a presentation on Farmington Woods to
about 30 local Realtors in the North Lounge. The topics ranged
from an overview of the community, our homes, amenities,
activities and services, what’s new in the community over the
last couple years, our advancements in golf and clubhouse
operations, our improvements in communications, our
commitment to maintenance of buildings and infrastructure,
and the advantages of condo living. It was very well received,
and I gave a similar presentation two weeks later to a similar
sized group of the Avon/Canton Rotary. You can see this
presentation on our website under Member Central.
This is one of several initiatives a team of our staff members
and resident/member volunteers have undertaken to get the
word out on the advantages of living here, becoming a member
here, having a banquet here or advertising here. We regularly
network with several local Chambers of Commerce (Avon,
Canton, Farmington, Central Connecticut Chambers), the
Connecticut Chapter of the Community Associations Institute,
and the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors, as well as
taking advantage of public relations stories that we can get
published in local media about things we do to benefit the greater
Farmington Valley community. Let us know if you see other
avenues you wish us to explore, and please help promote our
community in any way you can.
OUR CLUBHOUSE

brochure for Farmington
Woods; you can tell from
the clothing, hair-styles
and cars. There is a large
photo of what is now the
North Lounge. It has
wood floors, the dark
cedar walls and several
sitting areas with sofas,
tables and lamps that you
might find in your own home. The caption reads: “The heart of
the social life at Farmington Woods is the spacious clubhouse,
complete with pro shop, rustic dining room, men’s and ladies’
saunas, exercise rooms, a game room for ping pong,
darts, shuffleboard and card playing. Included also are
a wide variety of areas well suited for bridge parties,
sing-ins, club meetings, buffets and special occasions.”
40 years later, the clubhouse is almost unrecognizable,
but remains the heart of the social life of Farmington
Woods. Out of more idle areas we have crafted a fullsized kitchen, dining room, pub, banquet facilities, and
outdoor patios. Through numerous golf outings, club
events, banquets, dining and bar patrons, we have grown
into a million dollar business serving thousands of
residents, members and guests annually.
The private food and beverage business is not without
its challenges, and that all revolves around our mission
to serve you and our other diverse members. We limit
our “market” generally to our 2000 or so residents and
members in order to preserve the privacy and security
of our community. That compares with the 200,000 or
so people our competitors outside the gates get to draw
from. That makes our daily business very difficult to
predict in terms of the food and staffing we will need,
yielding food and labor costs as a percentage of revenues
higher than the typical “public” restaurant. To serve the
varied tastes of our patrons, we maintain a broader menu
of items than the theme or niche restaurant down the
street, thereby raising our food costs. When we tried to
take liver and onions off the menu in an effort to raise
our culinary standards, we heard screams, and put liver
and onions back on. Club members expect more for
less, since they contribute to the club by way of dues
and minimums. They expect more quality, more variety,
more service, more hours of operation, and at lower
prices than the restaurant down the road.
Our private restaurant operates year after year at about
a break even, which is equal to or better than most clubs
in the country. But, when you factor in the rent that the
restaurant pays to the District, the community benefits
by about $50,000 annually in reduced fees. Our activity
levels and revenues are at all-time highs thanks to better
food quality, better service, more events, and more
communications to drive people to those events and
theme nights, but for the reasons stated above, don’t
expect all that to fall to the bottom line. Here’s the math
for the new budget:
• Budgeted F & B Revenue - $938,600
• Rent Paid to District - $40,982
• Budgeted Net Income – $5,096
• Contribution to FW - $46,078 (fees reduction)

Farmington Woods Building Department in Good Hands
Since the untimely illness that befell Jeff Brigham, our
Building Superintendent for many years, our new Building
Superintendent Chad Winter and Assistant Building
Superintendent Matt Zordan have stepped in seamlessly
to provide the services this extremely important role
requires. Day in and day out, aside from the ever present
and extensive routine requirements of this job, are a host
of unforeseen developments. This past winter for example
brought us a record number of ice dam conditions and
subsequent roof leaks, the repairs of which are still
ongoing. Knowledge is a key component in any line of
work, both Chad and Matt are well versed in building
construction. They both have excellent people and
communication skills to complement their abilities.
Matt has also resided in CT his entire life other than
attending college in Kentucky, growing up in Harwinton.
Joining our staff in 2008 he previously worked with custom
home builders as a framing carpenter, sheet rocker and
finish trimmer. Soon moving to Colebrook, he and his
wife have a 4 year old son and a 2 year old daughter.
Matt’s favorite activity is archery where his skills are
impressive, competing with an Olympic style recurve bow,
ranking 107 nationally, 7th in New England and 5th in CT.
He has competed in events with Butch Johnson in
attendance, who was part of the 1996 US gold medal team.
Matt has won a gold medal of his own in the CT State
Games. He built his own forge, makes knifes and is an
accomplished farrier.
Chad is a lifelong resident of CT, born in Glastonbury now
residing in Unionville. Prior to coming to Farmington Woods
in 2011, he worked in the construction industry mostly on
high end custom homes, doing both exterior siding and
trim as well as interior finish carpentry and trim. Chad
and his better half have a 25 year old son, they enjoy
many outdoor activities including camping, hiking, cycling
and ice fishing. His favorite pastime is wood working, a
good thing since he is restoring his 1800’s vintage home.
He recently started doing wood carvings, an activity he
picked up from his father. Most of his camping has been
in New England but Iceland is on his bucket list.
Chad’s goal here is to see ongoing improvement in the
quality and appearance of our homes. He is motivated by
and enjoys seeing the results of these efforts; including all
the members of his department.
Matt very much likes being part of the Farmington Woods
Family. His fellow staff members and the many residents
he gets to interact with make his job here rewarding and
enjoyable.
It is always nice to extend a wave and a smile or a kind
greeting to any of our great staff members, in case you
have not already had the pleasure of meeting them, now
you can say hello to Chad and Matt by name.

community-wide Open House Barbeque. “I really hoped we could
make the event free to everyone,” said George Pierfedeici, Vice
Chair of the Committee, “but given our available funds, this is still a
great price at $7.95 per person.”

Dennis Day
Farmington Woods Carpenter, Dennis Day,
passed away on May 23, 2015. Dennis spent
his career working in his field of passion,
carpentry. He loved his trade and it truly
showed in the exceptional quality of work
that he created. Dennis worked at
Farmington Woods for the last 19 years. He
will be missed.

CABARET NIGHT on June 7 was a huge success! John Brighenti , his jazz trio, and two singers thrilled a packed
north lounge!
Dianne Mower and Atla DeChamplain sang with all their hearts, with “scatting” reminiscent of Ella Fitzgerald. The old
favorites that we all know and love, the talent, the humor all made for an unforgettable event!
Comments from the audience were glowing, including “the best ever.” The audience found it difficult to sit still, with
many taking to the dance floor.
Before the entertainment, Cristin and her staff outdid themselves with cocktails and a buffet dinner. The “black and
the white” theme of the lounge added to the cabaret ambience.

Boulder Island at the Master Association’s Parking Lot
Credit goes to Russ Day, Farmington Woods resident and member
of the Landscape Committee. Russ volunteered to design the
landscaping plan for the crescent shaped area. His sketches and
final schematic diagram were enthusiastically endorsed by his
fellow landscape committee members. The boulders are native
to Farmington Woods. Plants, shrubs and trees were researched
by Russ and chosen for their tolerance to sun. Colors of the
plants were selected for variation and seasonal change.
Installation was launched on May 27 and completed in one day
by Al Tartaglia, Grounds Supervisor, Chris Schwager, Assistant
Grounds Supervisor , and Russ Day. Many thanks to this
unbeatable team.
We hope residents and staff enjoy the results.

Landscape Committee Seeks
New Members
The Landscape Committee bid farewell to Marilyn Pease at
their June 2 meeting. Delicious refreshments were
provided by Gail Standish. Thank you Gail.
The Landscape Committee is a group of
dedicated individuals whose primary
responsibility is to advise the Board in
preserving the quality of the landscape and
natural habitat of the community. Activities
include, but are not limited to, Neighborhood
Renewal projects, designs for major focal
areas, seasonal planting, and outdoor holiday
decorations.
The committee is currently seeking new
members who have a strong interest and/or
experience in gardening, landscaping, or
related areas. The ability and willingness to
do some hands-on work from time to time
would also be a welcome asset.
The committee meets the first Tuesday of the
month at 4:30 p.m.

ESPN Outdoor and Indoor Walking Tour,

ESPN, originally an acronym for “Entertainment and Sports
Programming Network”, THE major employer in Bristol, is a U.S.based global cable and satellite television channel that focuses on
sports-related programming. As of February 2015, it is available to
almost 94.5 million paid television households in the United States.
In addition to the flagship channel and its seven related channels in
the United States, ESPN broadcasts in more than 200 countries.
Another Lunch Bunch Plus
Success
Thirty five FWWC members enjoyed the pastoral
beauty of eastern Connecticut as we drove to the
Eastern part of our state with the Golden Lamb
Buttery as our destination. Sheep, a horse, and
donkeys grazed peacefully amidst the quiet
grasslands.
The station is currently permitting employees to conduct free tours
of the complex on a limited basis. Our sponsor for this event will
be able to take 10 of our Woman’s Club members for a tour on
September 12 and 10 more on September 26. If there is enough
interest, it may be possible to schedule a third tour at a later date.
As usual we will carpool from the Clubhouse upper parking lot for
our late morning tour from the visitors center, but right now the
specific tour time and lunch site have not yet been determined.
The names of all the visitors must be provided to ESPN before the
tour date is finalized, so an early sign-up is necessary. We will use
a lottery system for all the tours.

FWWC Book Club Luncheon
The final meeting of the Book Club took place at the Farmington
Library on Tuesday, June 9. The book “House Girl” was facilitated
by Loretta Antiput and produced a lively discussion!

position and will be working with Loretta Antiput.

Who Says, “It’s Not Easy Being Green”?
The garden is in top form! A leisurely walk through upper and
lower levels will delight the senses. An abundance of greens,
bright blossoms, healthy vegetables and fruits, and delicate
wings of butterflies provide a palette of color. Fragrances of
herbs, flowers, fresh vegetables, sweet berries, and rich soil
drift on the breeze. Friendly chatting and banter is heard, and
in the quieter moments, so is the buzzing of bees, chirping of
birds, calls of bullfrogs, and fluttering of hummingbirds’ wings.
Gardeners, keep it going! July’s heat and sun require regular
watering to cool and nourish your plants. Pull those weeds!
Weeds provide haven for pests and blight. Tend to any pests
that appear on your beloved foliage. Squish them between
your fingers. Show no mercy. If that thought repels you,
however, pour a few drops of soapy water on them to get the
job done. If they persist, try an organic spray such as Captain
Jack’s for beetles or a rubbing alcohol spray for aphids and
white flies. Garlic spray works to prevent pests from settling
in for the feast. (It smells.) Remember, chemicals will remain
in the soil for years to come. Please avoid them. According to
Billy, pests and blight have been on the downhill slide over the
past three years. Our Plant Sale purchases are partially to
thank, as they fill our plots with healthy and disease-free
seedlings.
If you’re in the Garden look for Jake the Snake on the hillside
between the upper and lower gardens. Leave him alone! He’s
a very helpful garter snake who keeps down the vermin
population. You can find him catching some rays, watching the
gardeners, and preparing for his next snack.
This year, Pest updates (no, this does not include new GOP
candidates) are posted on a blackboard just outside the Lower
Garden entrance. Also, check the Farmington Woods
Community Gardens’ Facebook Page for the latest updates on
pests in the garden and how to tackle them.
As you may know, our Plant Sales featured 14 varieties of
tomatoes. As your Garden Committee now knows, over 100
tomato plants remained after the third and final sale. Thus,
Tomatomania! Two community plots now contain over 100
tomato plants and include 14 varieties. Additional community
plots contain broccoli, cauliflower, and green beans.
A really big Thank You and Shout Out to everyone who
supported a very successful plant sale! The proceeds from
the sale will continue to support the phenomenal growth of our
Garden. Special thanks to Donna Curtis for planting, growing,
and transplanting all those vegetables and flowers, and smiling
through it all. Thank you to all folks, big and little, who helped
set up and clear out before and after plant sales.

Annual Garden Party
It is time to reserve your seat at the upcoming
Garden Party, Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 6:30
p.m. at the Clubhouse. This year’s featured guest
is the English Lady, the Baroness Maureen
Haseley-Jones. She is known as both a renowned
horticultural artisan and the entertaining Garden
Guru on WRCH 100.5 F.M. Her presence,
combined with a delicious menu and recognition of
gardeners’ accomplishments (and perhaps some
faux pas), guarantees an entertaining, educational,
and inspiring evening. Limited seating is available.
Reservations are now open to Garden Members
and their guests until July 15, when they will open
up to the Farmington Woods Community as a
whole. To reserve your seats please contact
Vivienne Semler at 860-255-7046 or
[email protected]. When making your reservation,
please provide your name, your member number,
and the number of people in your party. The
member number provided will be billed for the
entire reservation. Cost is $19.95 per person.

The product of this labor will be for sale at our Farmer’s
Market, scheduled to resume in mid-July on Saturday
mornings at 8 a.m. Harvests will differ from week to week.
This year, we will be buying by the bag for a marked donation
price. Both the quality and value are excellent. Come see
what you find and be pleasantly surprised. All proceeds will
be put back into the betterment of our Garden as a whole.
Check our Facebook Page and the Tuesday e-blast for
information on current crop availability. While you’re on the
page, check out all the cool Garden pics!
Remaining cosmos and zinnias now grace the hillside
approach, framed by beautiful rock supports created by Tony
Retartha.
Our Herb Garden, located to the right of the Upper Level’s
entrance (and across from Jun’s fantastical twig trellises) is
producing 15 delectable herbs. This is part of our edible
landscaping initiative. No permission need be asked to clip
what you need for an evening’s meal.
July holds two double-headers on the Picnic Table front.
On Saturday, July 11:
Extending the Harvest Workshop at 4 p.m., followed by
the Soup’er Saturday Pot Luck Social at 5 p.m.

Preserving-Pickling, canning, drying, and freezing

Swim Lessons at
Farmington Woods
It is not too late to sign up for swim lessons at
Guilford Pool. Lessons are taught by a certified
swim instructor.
Children’s sessions run every 2 weeks. The 2week sessions run 4 days a week MondayThursday. Classes start at 10:30 a.m. for beginners
and 11:30 a.m. for intermediates.
Adult sessions run every 4 weeks. The 4-week
sessions run 2 days a week Monday &
Wednesday. Classes start at 6:30 p.m.
Instructor-Led Water Aerobics
Is Back at Guilford Pool
Instructor-led water aerobics with Nancy Roy returns to Guilford
Pool this summer with both morning sessions and evening
sessions. The water aerobics morning sessions will be held twice
a week, meeting every Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 to 9:30
a.m. There will be water Zumba added to the mix this year in
the morning sessions which will prove to be a lot of fun.
The water aerobics evening sessions will be held twice a week,
meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
There will be 3 sessions this summer. Each session will be 4
weeks (8 classes). The cost for either the morning session or the
evening session is $42. For more information please contact

Free Water Aerobics
Attention residents of Farmington Woods ages 18 and over. The
Woods offers an exercise swimming class that is free. Join this

Important!
Traffic Changes Coming Soon to Mallard Drive
The Community Awareness Committee has approved changes to the locations of
the stop signs on Mallard Drive in an effort to increase the safety of our residents.
The changes are projected to be implemented during the first part of July.
1. The 4-way stop at the intersection of Mallard Drive/31-40 Ashford Drive/
Putnam Lane will change - the stop signs currently on Mallard Drive at
Putnam Lane and at 31-40 Ashford Drive will be removed. The stops signs
at both the 31-40 Ashford Drive entrance to Mallard Drive and the Putnam
Lane entrance to Mallard Drive will remain. Extra caution must be exercised
when turning onto Mallard Drive from this end of Ashford Drive and from
Putnam Lane, as the oncoming traffic on Mallard Drive will no longer stop.
2. The other 4-way stop on Mallard Drive at the intersections of 1-30 Ashford
Drive and Haddam Drive will not change and all four of the stop signs will
remain in place.
3. A new 4-way stop will be added on Mallard Drive by installing stop signs at
the intersection of Greenwich Lane and Guilford Drive.
The new 4-way stop is expected to be a noticeable improvement for the users of the Guilford Park amenities, to include the
pool, playground, tennis courts and walking trails, especially during the warmer months when there are even more walkers
and bicyclists of all ages in this area. The proximity of the new 4-way stop to the Lovely Street entrance should also help to
slow down vehicles as they travel to and from the Lovely Street gate. Speeding has been a concern on this portion of Mallard
Drive, especially when children are walking to and from the bus stop. Increased security patrols will be monitoring the flow
of traffic on Mallard Drive as well as conducting stop sign enforcement duties.
Farmington Woods is active during all seasons, with many walkers, joggers, bicyclists, golfers and maintenance workers
using the roadways, as well as the ever-presence of wildlife. All motorists are urged to come to a complete stop at all stop
signs, yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and always observe the 20 mph speed limit for the benefit and safety of the
community.

9 Hole Women’s Golf League
Although the month of May was marked with some substantially chilly temperatures for morning golf on Wednesdays,
at least there were no rain outs, which may be a record for the FW Women’s 9-Hole golfers!
We reported last month about our formal opening tournament, luncheon and annual meeting. In the week following
that event, our annual mixer with the 18-Hole Women’s Club was held. Sixteen players participated, the field well
balanced between 9-holers and 18-holers. The team of Terry McNamara, Kris Sayers, Dorothy Pfizenmaier and
Lynn Griffing won Low Gross. Low Net honors went to the team of Elaine Truskoski, Wendy Gill, Mary Lynn
Gorman and Ruth Pandiscio. Lunch, as usual, was a noisy, fun experience – one mark of a successful event!
In the last week of May, our tournament format was the Back Nine Scramble. Winners were the team of Deb
Sahm, Ruth Becker, Lynn Griffing and Georgie Geoghan. Since some of our golfers don’t play the back nine
regularly, this particular event can be challenging for some of the group.
With our being able to play every Wednesday, warmer weather arriving and getting some special tournaments
“under our belt” in the month of May, we’ve had a great beginning to our 2015 season and look forward to the next
few months!

BOOM! POW! Fireworks are above us,
it’s the 4th of July, and there’s no better way to
spend it than with the people you love. But have
you ever thought to yourself “ok so there’s the
fireworks show, then what do I do”?
That’s certainly not a problem in
Farmington Woods, with the many activities that
we have to offer and they are not just perfect for
adults, your kids will never be bored. Whether
you’re taking a stroll by one of the parks that we
have or swimming in one of the four different
pools, there is and never will be a time when you
are bored in Farmington Woods.
Now there are not just activities for the
warm seasons there’s also the best winter
sledding spots at the golf course, but the golf
course isn’t just fun in the summer, it’s also fun in
the winter, spring, and the fall where you can slide
down a hill of leaves.
So even if you’re visiting a family
member who lives in Farmington Woods we will
definitely give any guest a visit that they’ll never
forget.

MOMS OF THE
FARMINGTON WOODS
NEWS:
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far.
There’s so much to do in our tiny little state from
strawberry and blueberry picking to going on thrilling
rides at amusement parks. Personally, my family and
I have come to realize how much we love Connecticut.
During the summertime we enjoy doing a lot of outdoor
activities. Here are a few of my favorite things to do
that are close to home.
Bike riding - Farmington River Trail. Did you
know you can ‘borrow a bike’ on the trail?
Beaches - Silver Sands State Park, Milford, CT
to walk out to Charles Island (during low tide) or relax
in Watch Hill, RI or Misquamicut, RI where there are
lots of activities for families.
Hiking and Waterfalls – Bash Bish Falls in
Mount Washington, MA, Kent Falls in Kent, CT, or
there are several trails along the Farmington River near
Pleasant Valley, CT which is popular for fishing too!
You can also go tubing on the Farmington River.
Playgrounds & Splash Pads – Buckingham
Playground in Avon, CT, New Fenridge Park in West
Hartford, CT, Rotary Park in Simsbury, CT or our very
own Farmington Woods Playground at the Guilford Pool
which offers the nature trail and tennis.
Amusement Parks – Six Flags New England in
Agawam, MA, Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT,
Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, CT
In addition to this, we also enjoy going to the
Farmington Woods Community Garden where we
started about 95% of our garden from seeds. It’s like
taking care of children! I can say that myself and other
new gardeners that I’ve talked to, have learned a lot
and received so much help from the committee
members and other experienced gardeners. I have
made new friends and met some lovely residents I
haven’t met before. I have to share one more benefit
of gardening… my oldest son, Stephen IV who is 5 ½
has begun trying and eating new vegetables, especially
the ones we have in our garden. Once he realized we
were growing things that we ate, he got excited about
at least trying them! I want to give a huge thank you
to John Sahm who reached out to me during the early
spring time to share information about the community
garden.

soccer ball. Let’s get together and practice your skills.

Farmington Woods Paddle and
Tennis Committee
The Paddle and Tennis Committee approved a new
system for tennis court reservations.
Objective: Develop a new system with the intention of obtaining
a more accurate account of how frequently the courts are
being used and the number of people using them. It is also
important to develop a system that is fair and convenient for
Farmington Woods residents and operates more efficiently by
reducing the work load for committee members and reducing
the use of paper currently required.
System Approved: Prior to the beginning of every tennis
season we (Tennis Committee) will post an announcement for
court reservations. These reservations are restricted to groups
of players that are interested in reserving a seasonal long
schedule, i.e. every Monday, or every Monday, Wednesday
and Friday, or Monday through Friday, or Saturday and Sunday,
etc.
In order for a group to reserve a court(s) the group must
provide a list of names (players) to the Committee to justify
the reservation for one or more courts. The Committee will
then generate a completed list of the reservation dates, times,
courts, and group leader(s). The list will then be posted on the
boards at all court locations where courts are reserved. This
list will also be posted on each and every court applicable.
This reservation system will also include people and/or groups
interested in hosting special events for one or more days during
the tennis season.
For all other tennis players there will be a register posted at
every tennis location. The players must sign up for the court
they intend to use, documenting the date, time, court and name
of players. Group reservations mentioned above will be color
shaded in the register to identify dates and times courts are
reserved for the current tennis season. If the register is not
completed by someone using a court then another person is
allowed to take that court which has not been reserved
accordingly. Courts cannot be reserved more than 48 hours in
advance, and cannot be used for more than one and a half (1
½) hours of play time.

Appreciation
No place on planet earth offers an environment of pure
honesty, complete integrity and always the best of peaceful
intentions, yet even in some of the most autocratic countries
in the world much good can still be found. Venezuela is
by no means at the far end of the repressive spectrum but
relative to the United States, life can be considered quite
harsh for many.
Ricardo (Ricky) Martinez the nephew of Taty Elwood, was
recently here on a two month visit to gain an understanding
of life in America as part of an effort to immerse himself
into other cultures, an ideal also shared by his parents.
Ricky and his family live in Venezuela, also Taty’s native
country, where life is considerably different than the United
States. At the age of 18 he has already become a
remarkable young man with a great deal of focus as to
what his life’s journey should be.
Many of the things we take for granted, such as getting in
a car and going to a grocery store, most always abundantly
stocked with anything one could want or a trip to the mall
with little or no worry of encountering any trouble, are not
the norm in his home country. Where and when you go are
always important considerations. Shortages of many staples
is the norm. Many restaurants have their own security on
site, the local authorities cannot always be trusted and being
mugged or robbed is not uncommon. His family’s home
has been broken into 5 times and they live in a better part
of town. The city of Barquisimeto where Ricky lives is
the fourth largest and the Capital of Lara, one of the 23
states in the country. Although located in an agricultural
region of Venezuela where sugar is a major crop and the
culture is dominated by music, there is much industry and
commerce. The demographics include people from Italy,
Spain and Portugal as well as other parts of South America.
Public schools all over are considered substandard by most
and if at all possible families that can afford it, send their
children to private schools, which Ricky has attended from
the start of his education. Here a private school is
considered a privilege for the few, there it is practically a
desperate quest.
What is striking about Ricky is his sense of the world around
him. He has a mature awareness of world affairs,
particularly for his age, grasping much of the complexity
and consequences of actions taken by so many countries
with different agendas. He believes it is important to
understand the views of others even though the ideology,
religious and philosophical beliefs may not be in harmony

with one’s own. He loves his country yet recognizes its
shortcomings and sees so much potential for improvement,
which he wants to be a part of.
Originally thinking of becoming an electrical engineer and
designing products, his intended profession is architecture,
also his father’s vocation. Later this year he will be going
to Argentina to study in that field. He has an innate
creative mentality which has drawn him to art world in
the past year. Employing a modern technique to his
paintings, he achieves a vision of the mind combining the
mindset and moods we all experience, both good and bad.
He conveys this on canvas with texture and color along
with eloquent elaboration, when describing his work.
Ricky’s mother is a psychologist which perhaps explains
his in-depth awareness of the mind. As a writer he has
written some short stories, poems and is now working on
a novel. Not surprisingly it is a love story about a young
artist that, with the help of his girlfriend, navigates his
way through life’s many challenges and ultimately finds
happiness. He credits David Lynch, the multi-talented
artist and writer, as one of his inspirations.
Ricky has also traveled to Belgium, France, Holland and
Brazil. Complementing his real life experiences, he enjoys
reading about world history and influential people. His
favorite sport is Rugby playing the flanker position. As a
lover of music he is an avid fan of Gustavo Dudamel, the
world renowned conductor and violinist. Gustavo is the
music director of the Orqesta Sinfonica Simon Bolivar in
Barquisimeto his birth place and the Los Angeles
Philharmonic.
Ricky appreciates the time he spent here and the sanctuary
of Farmington Woods which provided a serene
environment to reflect and compose his thoughts.
