forthewinners.Theactualtreelightingwilltakeplacesometimebetween5:00
&5:15p.m.andthepresentationofbestdecoratedtreestofollow.The

SecurityChairperson.Inlookingback,Iwantedtoreviewsomeofthe
moreimportantlessonsthatIhavelearned.
Theimportanceofknowingandlookingoutforyourneighbor.
Timeandtimeagain,Ihaveseenhelpingneighborstakethe
initiativetopreventcrimeinourcommunity.Itisbyfarthemost
effectivecrime ightingtoolthatwehave.
Bethesqueakywheel.Don’tbeafraidtocallinsuspiciousactivity,youcanremainanonymous.Also,
pleasereportallcrimetothepolice.Allcrimeandsuspiciousactivitycallsaremonitoredcloselybythe
policeandareinlargeparttheprimarydeterminantonhowresourcesaredistributedinthefuture.I
havefoundthepolicedepartmenttobeveryresponsivetoproblemsinourcommunityoncetheyare
clearontheproblemandknowthattheresidentsareengagedandcareenoughtobethatproverbial
squeakywheel.
Thethreatofamajor ireemergencyisveryrealinBryanPlace.Thecombinationofthehighdensity
andnarrowstreetsofoururbanneighborhood,makethedangerofaquicklyspreading ireoneofthe
greatestthreatstoourpropertyandsafety.Pleasebeverymindfulofwhereyouparkonthestreetand
keepyourtreestrimmedproperlysothatemergencyvehiclescanaccessourcommunity.
BurglaryofMotorVehicles(BMV)isbyfarthemostreportedcrimeinBryanPlace.Thisisthetheftof
personalpropertyoutofaparkedvehicle.Thesecontinuetoaccountforabouthalfofthereported
crimeinourneighborhoodandinlargepartcanbepreventedbymakingsureyoulockthedoorand
remove/hidethevaluablesinyourcar.
Recently,IreceivedinformationfromOf icerJeffLaBarba,ourrepresentativefromtheDallasPolice
Department,abouttheapprehensionofthetwomenseenrecentlyinBryanPlacewithawheelchairstealing
UPS/FedExpackagesfromfrontdoors.Of icerLaBarbawantedtothanktheobservantBryanPlaceneighbor
fornoticingthepairandcallingitintothepolice.Hewentontomentionthatsomeresidentshadreported
thesecrimesonNextDoor(aninternetsocialnetwork)butdidnot ileareportwiththepolice.Sincethe
PoliceDepartmentisnotabletoreceivetheseposts,(forprivacyissues,theycanonlypushinformationto
NextDoor)theywereinitiallyunawareofthissituation.Of icerLaBarbawentontosay,“Themostimportant
pointistocall911whenyouseesuspiciousactivityorarethevictimofacrime…sothatweareawareand
canrespondtocriminalactivityinyourneighborhood.”
