GERMAN FILM AWARD FOR PEACE
THE BRIDGE
Bernhard
Wicki
“Film can‘t change the world
or make it a better place,
but it can create a climate
where things can grow and rise
and change might be possible.”
Bernhard
Wicki
Memorial
Fund
After her husbands death Elisabeth Wicki-Endriss set up the
Bernhard Wicki Memorial Fund in 2002. A non-profit
organization funded sole through donations and sponsors.
Bernhard Wicki’s legacy is the basic of the peace award. His
first anti-war-film “The Bridge” (1959) met with great
acclaim around the world, receiving numerous awards and
prizes including an Oscar® nomination and a Golden Globe®.
Indeed in its unflinching veracity his cinematic oeuvre is
disturbingly relevant to the problems that beset the world
today.
German
Film Award
for Peace –
The Bridge
The German Film Award for Peace – The Bridge stands for peace, understanding
between nations and the inviolability of human dignity.
It takes its cue from Wicki's own words:
“Film cannot change the world or make it a better place, but they can create a
climate that allows things to develop and change to take place.”
The prize is awarded to German and international films that stand out both in
terms of their artistic vision and the human and political dimension they convey –
films that stand as examples against the false prophets who would blind and
mislead the world, films in which especially members of the younger generation, in
Europe and all over the globe, show that they recognise and are willing to assume
their political responsibility and uphold the spirit of freedom.
German
Film Award
for Peace –
The Bridge
The Award is arranged in close collaboration with the Bavarian Ministry of
Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology and the SPIO e.V., the
umbrella organization of the German film industry.
The next ceremony is the 15. German Film Award for Peace – The Bridge and
takes place Thursday, June 30th, 2016 7:30 pm
at Cuvilliés Theater Residenz Munich.
Quotes
about the
Film Award
I’ve never experienced such an award ceremony! A big and gorgeous evening –
absolutely unique and incomparable with any other national or international
movie award ceremony. A brilliant orchestration for peace and film, combined with
music by distinguished artists. A moving gala, where excellent artists were awarded
with excellent prizes by excellent people.
Klaus Maria Brandauer, Honorary Award 2014

Prize Symbol
The sculptures are casted in bronze, the inscriptions are made of gold. A endless
row of bridge piers create a fictive bridge with a human in the center.
The sculptures are handed over individually. From awardee to awardee, from
culture group to culture group the fictive bridge is growing around the world every
year with every award.
A growing bridge that appeals for peace, freedom and the dignity of each
