The three offices are: • RE/MAX Edge, 3843 N. Broadway, led by Broker/Owner Mark Zipperer, with 11 affiliated agents; • RE/MAX Millennium, 641 E. Pershing Road, led by Broker/Owner Demetrios Chronis, with eight affiliated agents; • RE/MAX Vision II, 350 W. Ontario St., led by Broker/Owner Jason Palermo, with 39 affiliated agents. “The commitment made by hundreds of RE/MAX agents throughout the Chicago area has allowed our network to establish itself as a leading corporate sponsor of Children’s Memorial Hospital,” noted Jim Merrion, regional director of RE/MAX Northern Illinois. “We’re excited to add three more Miracle Offices in the city, and look forward to an outstanding year of fund raising on behalf of Children’s Memorial, which helps so many children regardless of the financial resources their families possess. It’s a wonderful way for all our agents to share their success with the communities in which they work,” he said. RE/MAX Preferred Properties of Addison has joined the exclusive ranks of Miracle Offices, a designation given by the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN), a network of premier children’s hospitals in the United State and Canada. The office, located at 715 Lake St., is operated by Broker/Owner Peter Dravilas. To become a Miracle Office, each agent donates either a portion of every commission earned or a one-time annual amount to CMN. All funds raised for CMN by RE/MAX Preferred Properties will benefit Children’s Memorial Hospital of Chicago. “Knowing the wonderful work of Children’s Memorial and the many families in our community that it helps each year makes it both a pleasure and an honor for us to become a Miracle Office,” said Dravilas. “Supporting the hospital is a great way for us to give something back to our customers while also benefiting thousands of families across the Chicago area.” 3 Fundraising Events Lend Helping Hand to Children’s Memorial Hospital Three fundraising events put on this spring by RE/MAX offices around the Chicago area resulted in gifts totaling more than $4,200 to Children’s Memorial Hospital of Chicago via the Children’s Miracle Network. The events were: • St. Patrick’s Day Party, organized by Jason Palermo, Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Vision of Elmwood Park, and RE/MAX Vision II of Chicago at the RE/MAX Vision II office in downtown Chicago; • Las Vegas Nite party of casino games limited to participants at least 21 years old. It was organized by a committee of agents from RE/MAX Professionals Select of Naperville, and RE/MAX Professionals South of Plainfield, chaired by Jennifer Conte, one of the Broker/Owners of the Plainfield office. • Cosmic Bowling, hosted by Broker/Owner Angie Palazzolo of RE/MAX Destiny, Elk Grove Village, at the Elk Grove Bowl. Cosmic Bowling with RE/MAX Destiny “Fundraising for Children’s Memorial is now an integral part of the RE/MAX culture throughout our region,” said Jim Merrion, regional director of RE/MAX Northern Illinois. “Each year, events like this play a key role in helping reach our annual goals for support of the hospital and its outstanding work. Our agents get a great deal of satisfaction from their efforts to help the hundreds of children whose health problems are addressed each year at Children’s Memorial,” he said. RE/MAX is the exclusive real estate partner and a Platinum Sponsor of Children’s Memorial Hospital. 6 New Owners Take Helm at RE/MAX Horizon, Elgin Ron Ewing and Patricia Grant are the new Broker/Owners of RE/MAX Horizon, 374 McLean Blvd., Elgin. He acquired the franchise from long-time Broker/Owner Dean Gillman. RE/MAX Horizon continues to be the top Elgin real estate office in annual sales closed, based on information from Midwest Real Estate Data, LLC. It also ranked among the Top 25 RE/MAX offices in northern Illinois for closed transactions in 2007 and recently was named to the Up and Comers list in the 2008 Real Trends 500, an annual national survey of leading real estate offices. The office currently is home to 30 agents. Ewing, 49, entered the real estate industry six years ago as a sales agent and immediately affiliated with RE/MAX. Prior to that time, Ewing, a life-long resident of Elgin, worked for 17 years as a technology management professional with an international accounting firm. “Having been a sales associate at RE/MAX Horizon for my entire real estate career, I know the office well and appreciate the skills of our outstanding group of agents,” said Ewing. “They provide exceptional client representation and deliver admirable results no matter what the market conditions.” Ron Ewing (right) and his wife Patricia Grant are the new owners of RE/MAX Horizon in Elgin. They are pictured with Regional Director Jim Merrion. Ewing’s plans for the office include implementing some new training programs for agents along with a number of technological improvements. “Given my background in technology, I’m committed to keeping this office at the head of the pack in terms of using technology to make things easier and more productive for our agents and their clients,” said Ewing. Along with enhancing this office, Ewing plans to take on a significant role in the local real estate community. “Just as it is a privilege for me to assume the leadership role at RE/MAX Horizon, I feel it is important to help address the broader challenges that face our industry,” Ewing said. 7 Franchise in Sycamore Making a Fresh Start Grounded in Years of Successful Experience The popular RE/MAX franchise that has long been a fixture in Sycamore is being reshaped from the ground up with new leadership, a revamped identity and a new location in town. But its primary calling card remains a pool of highly experienced agents and a well-seasoned management team. In fact, the franchise, now located at 1430 DeKalb Ave., has been renamed RE/MAX Experience to emphasize the wealth of real estate knowledge its agents offer to buyers and sellers, according to Tom Skora, the new Broker/Owner. Skora has been a real estate professional in Sycamore for more than 20 years. “Not only do each of our agents have substantial experience, but we are also committed to making sure that the clients we serve have the best possible real estate experience when buying or selling property,” said Skora, who has lived in DeKalb for the last 30 years. Skora said his decision to move to RE/MAX and acquire his own franchised office is an outgrowth of the changes that have been transforming the real estate industry. “A real estate office now has to be quite a different place than it was a decade ago,” he asserted. “First, you need the technological tools – computers, phone systems, video equipment, etc. – that are now basic parts of how a state-of-the-art real estate office operates and allow agents to be in touch with their clients no matter where they are. “Second, you need less office space because those same tools now enable agents to work effectively almost anywhere, whether that is the front seat of their car or a home office. Skora feels RE/MAX has the systems in place to help agents make the most out of those new tools. He points particularly to www.illinoisproperty.com, the RE/MAX Northern Illinois Web site, as an example of the leadership RE/MAX offers in the technology area. “It is an extremely user friendly site that allows buyers and sellers to search for properties around the world, but at the same time, each agent can work with it to create a personal Web site to market listings and promote his or her services.” RE/MAX has a special web site that allows you to see what RE/MAX hot air balloon flights are coming to your area. In addition, each flight has a status box that shows whether or not the flight is on schedule or is cancelled due to weather conditions. Upcoming Flights For more information on upcoming flights, click on this link: www.rnibt.com Or go to the Agents Only page at www.illinoisproperty.com and click on the RE/MAX balloon. Tom Skora (center) is the new owner of the RE/MAX office in Sycamore, which will be called RE/MAX Experience. He is pictured with his manager Rorry Heide (left) and Senior Franchise Development Consultant Patrick McDowell. Skora’s plans for the office include a move away from tradition with the elimination of private desks. Instead, when an agent has work to do in the new RE/MAX Experience office, he or she can take a seat at any of 10 work stations that happens to be open and use any of the office’s laptop computers with wireless Internet access, according to Skora. A third reason Skora chose to affiliate with RE/MAX when opening his own office was the strength of the RE/MAX Northern Illinois network. “A goodly number of buyers for property in the Sycamore area now and in the future will be coming from the Chicago metro area, where RE/MAX is the top seller of residential real estate,” noted Skora. “Being part of the RE/MAX referral system will give us a strong connection to that pool of buyers.” According to Skora, he also hopes to broaden the business focus of the office, formerly called RE/MAX Gold, by expanding his agents’ involvement in commercial real estate and the marketing of land for development. Berwyn Wasco 11 Willow Springs Agent Finds Fun, if Not Fortune, on TV’s ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ It was an exciting few days in New York for Linda Saracco, a sales associate at RE/MAX Market in Willow Springs, during her stint as a contestant on the popular TV show, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” Linda Saracco RE/MAX Market Her TV adventure started late last summer when she received, within minutes of each other, calls from two relatives urging her to attend a Chicago-area audition for a special once-a-year version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” in which the questions are all about the movies. Saracco is legendary among friends and family for her encyclopedic knowledge of films. To qualify for the show, Saracco joined 4,000 would-be contestants to audition on a rainy day. She took and passed two tests, one for the special movie edition of the show, which is co-sponsored by Netflix, and another for the regular version of the program. Then, over a five-week period, she went through a range of additional tests and interviews before learning she was one of 10 potential contestants who would be invited to New York. The 10 were selected from among 20,000 who auditioned around the country for the Netflix show. However, not all 10 contestants were guaranteed a chance to play because of time limitations. Saracco never got the chance to sit in the Hot Seat, as the contestants’ chair is called on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” but because she also had qualified to play the regular version of the game, the producers offered her a chance to do that the next day. “I felt very fortunate to get that opportunity, but I hadn’t prepared at all for the regular version of the game,” Saracco recalled. “All my studying had been for the movie version, and all the folks I had lined up as potential phone-a-friends were also people whose expertise was in movies. But my family came to the rescue and found several people who would sit home the next day and be ready to offer help if I called.” When the game began, Saracco progressed smoothly, successfully answering the first eight questions. Then, she was asked to which of four musical instruments the word “tantara” would apply. As it turned out, Saracco’s lifelines didn’t help her puzzle out the answer, and she decided to take her $8,000 in winnings and depart. By the way, tantara is the word for the blast of a trumpet or other horn. “I relished the experience of qualifying for and playing the game and met a lot of terrific people, especially some of the other contestants,” Saracco said. When the show on which she appeared finally was aired this May, Saracco and her friends and family held a viewing party at a local restaurant to celebrate. “That made the whole thing an even more memorable experience,” said Saracco. “In the final analysis, the money wasn’t that important though it was nice to win enough to cover my expenses. It was just a lot of fun all around.” No response from costly newspaper ads? FOR YOUR SALES!
