Maagh
Being in the company of the devoted, following in their footsteps, listening to and then singing His Praise,
and then sharing this goodness with others is like bathing in holy waters in this month. You will thus cleanse
your innate evil tendencies grossed over many lives,
rid yourself of ego and greed, and won't be allured by lust and wrath.
The whole world will sing your praise and the essence of bathing in sixty-eight holy places, doing good
deeds and being compassionate to all beings will be yours were you to follow this holy path. He, on whom
the Gracious Lord bestows this gift, is wise and holy, and Nanak
happily commits and sacrifices his entire life to those who have thus realised their true Lord.
Those fortunate to have the Grace of the true Guru tread this path and are acclaimed
pure and holy.

Guru Gobind Singh, 1666-1708
We celebrate the Gurpurb on 16 Jan 2015
Guru Gobind Singh was the last of the ten Gurus, the one
who transformed the Sikh faith. In 1699 he created the
Khalsa (Pure), a community of the faithful
who wore visible symbols of their faith and trained as
warriors. Today the Khalsa comprises all practising Sikhs.
Guru Gobind named the Guru Granth Sahib his
successor. He succeeded his father Guru Tegh Bahadur
at the age of 9. He spent his childhood years
studying Persian and Sanskrit, and was skilled in
the art of war. His mission was to uphold right in
every place and destroy sin and evil.
The foundation stone of Harmandir Sahib was laid on
13 January 1589. It is informally referred to as the
"Golden Temple". It was built by the fifth Sikh Guru,
Guru Arjan.
There are four doors to get into the Harmandir Sahib,
which symbolize the openness of the Sikhs towards all
people and religions.
The Darshani Deorhi Arch stands at the beginning of
the causeway to the Harmandir Sahib. The gold
plating on the Harmandir Sahib was begun by Ranjit
Singh and was finished in 1830. Maharaja Ranjit Singh
was a major donor of wealth and materials for the
shrine and is remembered with much affection by the
Sikh community.
Lohri celebrations are being held on 23rd January 2016 at 6pm-9pm on the second floor of the
new building. Please come and join in for an evening of traditional music and dance.

Helping Sikligar Sikhs
It is encouraging to see how well
our Sangat has responded to our
project for helping Sikligar Sikhs
living in less than desirable
situation.
A vanload of clothes has already
been delivered to British Sikh
council for dispatching to the
needy. A second such
consignment is being prepared. So
do please give generously.
A big thank you to you all for your
contribution to our Gurdwara
project.
