2015 ANNUAL REPORT
CCRI...WHERE SMALL HAS ALWAYS
BEEN THE NEXT BIG THING.
Everywhere you look, small is being hailed as the next big thing. From shrinking our mobile devices to reducing our carbon
footprint, everyone seems to agree – smaller is better. And it’s about time!
Letter
from
the Board
Chair
and
President
At Child Care Resources Inc. (“CCRI”), small has always been our big thing. For more than three decades, we have been
working with families and their child care partners to ensure that the smallest members of our community – our infants,
toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary students – have the solid start they need to become productive members of society.
Small
What does it take to build a system of supports for this kind of long-term success? It takes data-driven innovation. It takes
spirited leaders. It takes generous investment. And it takes the commitment of an entire community.
On behalf of CCRI’s Board of Directors, staff, and customers (more than 28,000 impacted last year), we thank you for being
a part of the generous community of support on which we rely to continue advancing access, affordability, and quality in early
learning and school-age child care.
In this spirit, we are pleased to announce our newest initiative, CCRI’s Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership. Last year, CCRI
wrote a successful proposal to bring Early Head Start to Mecklenburg County for the first time. CCRI’s $5 million federal
award –the largest in the state and ninth largest in the country – will provide full-day, full-year child care and comprehensive
health, mental health, and family support services to 300 infants, toddlers and two-year-olds from working families living at or
below poverty level. The goal: to lift families out of poverty and help young children reach their full potential.
We hope you will take a moment to read the attached report highlighting CCRI’s FY15 results and the impact of our work.
We thank you for ensuring that CCRI has the resources it takes to tackle the biggest issues (health and safety, well-being, early
education, and family security) that impact the smallest among us. Because at CCRI, small will always be our big thing.

BECAUSE LITTLE CHILDREN COME WITH BIG PRICE TAGS.
The first five years of care for one child will cost a family $52,000 (average cost of center-based care in Mecklenburg County).
CCRI administers child care financial aid (under contract to Mecklenburg County, Smart Start of Mecklenburg County, and other
funders) that makes it possible for low-income working families to enroll their children in safe and nurturing learning environments.

CCRI has grown Raising A Reader® across Mecklenburg County to increase: 1) access to developmentally appropriate books for children
in low-income homes; 2) the frequency and amount of time young children and their families engage in read-aloud and “book cuddling”
