Pre-Course Requirements

1. Current CPR certification
American Heart Association
Healthcare Provider Level
(course information available on website)
2. Current state RDH licensure
Documentation must be presented at the start
of the course.
In addition , participants must complete medical history and consent forms. These can be
found on the course website.

Each participant must be able to both
receive and administer local anesthesia.
Participants will be partnered with other
participants on a rotating basis throughout
the course.
Course Completion
Participants must attend all scheduled sessions and pass a written and clinical exam in
order to receive college course credits and a
certificate of completion.
Upon successful course completion participants will be eligible to submit application to
take the NERB (North East Regional Board)
Local Anesthesia Examination.
After successfully completing the writtenNERB Local Anesthesia Examination
participants can apply to their respective
state licensing board to obtain the required
permit to deliver local anesthesia.







Local Anesthesia
for the
Registered Dental Hygienist
This course will provide a comprehensive study
of local anesthetics utilized in the dental profession. During online prestudy, lecture, and lab
components, the participant will learn to safely
administer topical and local anesthetics. It is a 2
credit college course which is equivalent to 30
CEU’s.
Format
Pre-study Online Component

Participants will be required to complete online study guides, exercises, and quizzes on
Blackboard(Bb). Students must have internet access, basic computing, and web skills.
A completed notebook formatted as directed
on Bb:(Local Anesthesia Notebook Assignment) must be presented on the first
night of class
Sufficient time must be devoted in order to
achieve success in the course. It is estimated
that a minimum of 20-30 hours of time will be
required for this prestudy component. You are
encouraged to register as soon as possible so
to allow adequate study time before the on site
portion of the course.

regardless of where you live, but you must email

residence after registering.
You must apply to the college even if you have attended CCRI. There is a $20 application fee
(waived if you apply online) for this course. To apply

Lecture and Lab Component
For help with registration:
The onsite component will consist of 15 hours of
classroom instruction and 16 hours of lab and
clinical instruction which satisfies all neighboring
states’ requirements Participants must successfully pass both written and clinical examinations.

Begin the Blackboard online
course Jan. 20, 2015
Once registered for DHYG 2200 go to the
CCRI home page → for students→ Blackboard →log in with the same username
and password, DHYG 2200 will automatically show up in your Blackboard. Begin
taking the online course in the order presented. Complete it by March 25, 2015.
Students who do not complete the online
portion and completed notebook by March
25, 2015 will be dismissed from the course.
The CCRI email is the only official means
of communication in the college. Please
