This naming rights package will include: • Walkway connecting to the convention hotel • New signage to go in place in July and electronic message board later this year Old National Events Plaza • Hosted 249 events in 2013 including meetings, Broadway shows, comedy shows, concerts, banquets, conventions, dance recitals, and community events. – This is an increase of 24 events from 2012 • In 2013 attendance was up 10% from 2012 Old Vanderburgh County Courthouse We want the community to know that the Old Courthouse is open for business! • Office rental space is currently at 85% capacity • In 2013 the ballroom was rented 38 out of 52 possible days First Floor Corridor Restoration • Completed in 2013 • Plaster repair and painting • Marble floor ,wainscoting repair and cleaning • Painting of light wells • Total cost $180,389.08 First Floor Restoration Second Floor Corridor Restoration BEFORE In Progress • Estimated cost $172,700 • Estimated completion September 2014 • Painting/ plaster repair • Marble repair and cleaning • Governor’s parlor restoration Looking Forward • Third Floor Restoration in 2015 – The Old Courthouse Foundation will need the Community’s support for the final phase of corridor restoration • Increase office rental availability by restoring currently unusable space • Increase event rentals • Establish walking tours and historical exhibits Burdette Park • Privatized miniature golf course in 2014 • County receives 20% of all proceeds Burdette- USI Trail • Completed in 2012 • Three mile paved trail connecting to USI • Designated destination point of the American Discovery Trail • Named a National Recreation Trail by the Secretary of the Interior Highway Department • 2013 was a record year for work orders at 1,338 • The first five months of 2014 have already produced over 1,000 work orders 2014 Road Repairs • Annual County road hearing was held in April 2014 • 33 road repair projects were identified and approved by the Commissioners. • Repairs will include full-depth patching, milling, and surface overlays • Preliminary cost estimate of $433,800 for materials • • • • • • Kansas Road Cascade Drive Cold Water Drive Old Plantation Drive Boehne Camp Road Middle Mt. three lanes between Green River Road and Oak Hill Road The first phase of construction should begin in late 2014 or early 2015 Green River Road Reconstruction Green River Road is being widened to five lanes between Millersburg Road and Kansas Road Project Cost: $5.3 million Completion Date: June 2015 Green River Road Widening to three lanes between Kansas and Boonville New Harmony Design work started in Jan. 2014 Estimated Construction Cost: $6 million Estimated Start of Construction: Summer 2017 Reconstruction of the Maryland Street Bridge over Pigeon Creek New beams, deck, railing, and approaches will be constructed Estimated Start of Construction: Fall 2014 Pigeon Creek Canoe Launch Located next to the Pigeon Creek bridge on Green River Road Project was funded entirely by the Rotary Club of Evansville Ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Oct. 24, 2013 Vanderburgh County NaCo Prescription Drug Card Program • The NaCo Drug Discount Program launched in April 2007 • Benefit offered residents because of Vanderburgh County’s membership in the National Association of Counties • $6,442,996 total savings 182,816 utilizing consumers on more than 492,761 prescriptions filled using the NaCo discount card • Average savings of 29.28% per prescription Veteran’s Services • Service Officer and Assistant Service Officer received VA representative accreditation in April 2014 • Veterans served in 2013 at the Vanderburgh County Veteran’s Service Office: – VA Disability Claims: 325 – In & out telephone inquiries: 4411 • Total expenditures paid to Vanderburgh County veterans/dependents in 2013: $68,454.00 • Ranked 5th in the State for VA Benefits Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum Operated by the Veteran’s Council of Vanderburgh County Tinker Memorial Pipe Organ Donated to University of Evansville in 2013 for restoration Area Plan/ County Zoning • Amendment to the County Zoning Code allowing agricultural or agri-tourism uses to be permitted with the special use approval by the Board of Zoning – Less expensive procedure, takes half the time of a typical rezoning. • Amendment to the County Zoning Code allowing use of gravel access and parking for certain specificallyidentified, low volume land uses instead of paved parking Area Plan/ County Zoning • Amendment clarifying the classification of residential reentry facilities or halfway houses for inmates or former inmates being released from the prison system. – This amendment also established parking and spacing requirements for these facilities, ensuring that they would be located no less than 1000 feet from any school or day care center Area Plan/ County Zoning • Process for reviewing Minor Subdivisions has been greatly reduced to 1 week instead of 4-5 weeks – most minor subdivisions can be approved in house instead of going through the APC meeting process saving valuable time. • Allowance for APC to waive a standard in the Subdivision Code if the request meets criteria bringing the process in line with the Zoning Code variance process Economic Development • New PGP specialty food processing plant was constructed and opened for operation in Vanderburgh Industrial Park in 2013 • Created 41 new jobs Economic Development • Berry Plastics has committed to multiple expansions and has multiple locations in Vanderburgh County, including the largest single plastics manufacturing location in this hemisphere • SS&C Technologies, employing finance, accounting and IT professional, is targeted to hit an employment level of 220 by year end, less than 4 years after opening its local operations. • Professional Transportation, a homegrown United company, made an acquisition that brought new logistics and IT jobs. • Curvo Labs secured a startup grant from Indiana’s Elevate Ventures and launched a new company here that services the healthcare industry with innovative procurement solutions GAGE Recognizing that manufacturing companies are looking for existing buildings with today’s requirements Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville partnered with the Evansville Industrial Foundation and Delta Properties to construct a new spec building in the Vanderburgh Industrial Park Economic Development Vanderburgh County leaders from government, business, academia, and economic development are active in the I69 Innovation Corridor Consortium, which is spearheading an effort to achieve transformational economic development in SW Indiana by improving our innovation index, fostering innovation and its commercialization. Vanderburgh County’s own USI is providing the facilitation and consortium leadership; while the Growth Alliance is spearheading efforts to establish innovation and entrepreneur networks Economic Development • The entrepreneurial ecosystem in Vanderburgh County is developing at a rapid pace. • A new co-working space in Innovation Pointe has opened up and is connected to the state-wide system of co-working spaces for entrepreneurs. • Scholarships are being awarded to local entrepreneurs for new venture and tech venture startup training. • Our local SCORE Chapter, made up of retired executives donating their time to help new business startup efforts, was named chapter of the year in Indiana. Economic Development Efforts in expansion of our existing businesses, attraction of businesses, and incubation of startup businesses are strong. Securing the IU med school is another star on the economic development report card. We need to continue to identify and support the most promising public-private partnership projects.
