Hello again and I hope
that everyone is ready
for some cruises to
start. Based on the
current weather
forecasts it might just
be turning in our favor.
It is time to help the
economy and burn
some good gasoline.
Joel Smith has
completed and tested
our drive to Weidman’s
Restaurant and Dunn’s
Falls in Meridian. We
voted at the meeting to
do this event on 22
June so everyone
needs to mark their
calendars.
For those who were
able to make it we had
a great time at the
CARA event 8 June in
the parking lot of Great
Scott on Old Canton
Road to raise funds to
support CARA. People
really enjoyed looking
at all the Corvettes.
They were really a
crowd draw and made
you even more proud to
own one. The food and
weather was good and
the fellowship was
outstanding.
The excitement has
been continuously
building lately on folks
building their valve
cover racers for the
Mississippi Corvette
Classic. We need to
beat the lady from
Florida and her gold
speed demon. If you
need any info on it
contact Ralph Shurtleff
or David Wilson. We
have our ramp built and
are ready to put it to the
test.
Be sure and pay
attention to Tom
Gerity’s emails on the
2014 Corvette Caravan
to Bowling Green, KY.
You don’t want to be
left sleeping in a tent or
driving back to
Nashville for a room.
We are still having our
Tuesday meetings at
Tom Gerity’s office at
5:30 pm on Old Canton
Road across from
Newt’s Restaurant for
the planning for the
2013 Mississippi
Corvette Classic and
solicit all the help we
can get. The time is
now to start soliciting
items for the silent
auction for the
Mississippi Corvette
Classic on 17 August.
We need to try and get
some big ticket items so
we can raise the big
bucks for Make A Wish.
We have already
received some items
and commitments for
several others. We also
need to get out there
and solicit sponsors for
our show and vendors
for our booth space. It
is not too early to start
lining them up. We
need to continue to turn
up the volume and get
them sold so we can
have our Corvette tags
by next fall. Getting out
there and
marketing/selling the
Corvette tag needs be
one of our highest
priorities. They are still
coming in but at a very
slow rate. Time is
running out on us.
Be sure and keep
sending your ideas to
April as we are
constantly striving to
get things on the
schedule that our
members what to do.
She is working to get
our web site up to date
with the meetings and
events for 2013 and
doing a great job of
looking and researching
out potential events for
our club.
Save the Wave and
keep on driving and
smiling.
Weidmann`s Restaurant
Meridian, Mississippi has always
been steeped in tradition, and one
of the longest running traditions
around is having a great lunch or
dinner at Weidmann’s Restaurant.
Since 1870, generations of
families have gathered around
Weidmann’s tables to sample
some of the greatest food and
beverages available. Starting with
the freshest ingredients, tried and
true recipes and just a little bit of
tender, loving care, Weidmann’s
has always specialized in high
quality comfort food.
With respect for the history of
Weidmann’s and with an eye on
the future, owner Charles Frazier
has combined the best of both
worlds and created a restuarant
experience full of surprises and
flavors while retaining the
comfortable, cozy warmth that has
always been a part of Weidmann’s
charm.
moved to it’s present location
under the ownership of Henry
Weidmann, grandson of the
founder. During the 40′s, 50′s
and 60′s, the resaurant garnered
national recognition and
became a mainstay for
Meridian and surrounding
communities. It was during this
time that the restaurant was
open 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week, closing only for
Christmas Day. In the 60′s the
mantle was passed to Shorty
McWilliams and his wife
Gloria (Weidman). Shorty was
a football star at Mississippi
State and West Point, and twice
finished in the top ten for the
Heisman Trophy. In the 1980′s
ownership was passed to Poo
Chancellor and his wife Gloria
(McWilliams). In 1999, a group
of 54 investors purchased the
building and restaurant and
completely renovated the site.
Weidmanns reopened in 2000
Their History
under new ownership. In 2010,
Weidmann’s was established in
the restaurant closed breifly and
1870 by Felix Weidmann, a Swiss was reopened by Charles
immigrant who was a chef on a
Fraizer, with the goal of
transatlantic steam ship. The
providing outstanding and
restuarant was originally in the
affordable Southern Cuisine in
Union Hotel with a counter and 4 an historic setting. Many of the
stool. In 1923 the restaurant
recipes of the original
Weidman’s have been revived as
well as new classics are enjoying
local popularity. The restaurant has
been featured in many books,
magazines, cookbooks and
television shows. Another
Weidmann’s tradition is the vast
collection of photographs of
celebrities, employees and local
guests. Please take some time to
enjoy the many photographs of our
guests, collected throughout the
years, as well as the original
artwork on display by local artists.
The Peanut Butter Crocks
Each table at Weidmann’s is set
with a handmade peanut buter
crock and an assortment of
crackers. This tradition dates back
to the 1940′s, when legend has it
there was a shortage of butter due
to the war. A guest mentioned to
Henry Weidmann that peanut butter
would be a good replacement to
accompany the crackers. Henry
embraced the concept and
eventually found a potter in
Louiseville, Mississippi to make the
crocks. We now have a local potter
in Meridian making the crocks by
hand. If you would like to purchase
one, please as the server.

BLONDE WHO
MARRIED A CATHOLIC
On their honeymoon,
the blonde bride
slipped into a sexy
nightie and, with great
anticipation, crawled
into bed, only to find
her new Catholic
husband had settled
down on the couch.
When she asked him
why he was apparently
not going to make love
to her, he replied, 'It's
Lent.'
In tears, she sobbed,
'Well, that is the most
ridiculous thing I've
ever heard! Who did
you lend it to, and for
how long?

The 3rd annual Mississippi Corvette Classic is scheduled for August
16/17 later this summer. We need your ideas, effort and support to
make this year’s event a great success.
We are beginning the detailed planning and organization meeting
process for the event. As in the past we will hold weekly meetings that
last only 1 hour. The meetings will be held in the board room of Wyatt,
Tarrant & Combs, LLP at 4450 Old Canton Road, Suite 210, Jackson, MS 39211
at 5:30 PM starting this Tuesday, the 9th. Tom Gerity has generously agreed to
let us meet at his office each week. The meeting will start at 5:30PM and end
at 6:30PM. The doors automatically lock at 5:30 in the building so keep Tom’s
cell number (601-668-0533) handy should you get locked out.
We need your participation. Only through the effort of the entire club
membership will we be able to exceed last year’s event and contribution to
Make-A-Wish Mississippi. My thanks and sincere appreciation in advance for
your assistance and effort toward this great event. We will once again be
hosted by the Jackson Convention Complex which gives us premiere space in a
beautiful cool environment. I have attached a press release that we issued last
October after JCC agreed to host the event in 2013. Also, please plan on
entering your car so that you can share its beauty with everyone that attends
the event. Remember that all corvettes are beautiful, especially yours.
